  • this gives sight to what is going on..well done for making this ..

  • place this film among my favs

  • great work, faved and shared, thank you for posting!

  • @fenntjebloem

    THANK U!!

    fair ...WITH LOVE AND FREEDOM

    to ALL

    XXXXX

  • Thank you so much for doing this.

There is still so much (backward) status to flowers in winter. They should have warning labels like tobacco packets, only more honest.

The irony of honouring a woman or women with long stemmed red roses from such a terrible business must be savoured and acted upon.

  • will grow my own flowers from now on! thanks for the heads up

  • Today is mother day in France !....

  • ¿Flores?

  • omg i love your art u're an amazing artist (: , and the history is very sad, i did not know this

  • that was horrible. I was almost crying. thankyou for showing this video. Others might have chosen not to care

  • The scene where the worker cuts the vagina-flower (don't laugh... heh) is very creative, as is the whole video.

Very eye-opening and very creative. Great work.

  • i love it !

  • Beautiful visual images and important topic. Great video.

  • I love this video. I am putting together an environmental website and will certainly include this. Do you have a website I can see more of your work and drop you an email?

    Many thanks.

    Susan

  • thanks susan!

all my stuff is on my youtube channel.. I have a new piece of animation coming within the next week or so :)

and feel free to message me through youtube.

    cheers

  • Brilliant. Thank you.

  • I seriously never even thought about this... I stopped to ponder on where everything we use is made... Depressing, but eye opening. Thanks.

  • god! i just discovered you tonight and i LOVE your artwork. and what you are doing with it ...kudos dude.. this goes to favorites, myspace and everywhere!!!

    U ROCK!

  • I wanted to watch it again because I loved it so much the first time I saw it! Great stuff :o)

  • Amazing... I absolutely love this video!!!

  • Brillant video Paul.

  • I thought i'd commented on how amazing this is before? Shame on me. A really powerful video <3

  • Still amazing! :D

  • Wow.. thanks for this. Like most everything we conveniently enjoy, most have no idea where it comes from and what and who was involved -- particularly at what cost.

  • That's insane.

I can only imagine how other simple things we buy at stores affect the people who make them.

    Good artwork, too.

  • Wow. I didn't even know that it went down like that. Something so small as a cheap flower is such a big deal somewhere else. It's just another thing to think about going on in this world today. I enjoyed this video for the fact that it's spreading the word of a good cause, and the animation fits it perfectly. Good job.

  • Love your work!

    Congratulations!

  • Wow, youre amazing

  • this is absolutely amazing!

  • Thanks for seeing the big picture and using your art as an impetus for change.

    Peace

  • Loved the art work!! Great video as well as important message. Am glad more people becoming aware as well as changes in laws in many countries to withdraw from use of chemicals..

  • this is cool

  • This is amazing, you have great skills!

  • i read some of the comments here. the responsibility ultimate comes from the community of workers to make the greatest changes that are permanent. There is no reason why they cannot learn to grow without chemicals, that is a global problem as well. Stop buying flowers helps too, to send a message and buy seeds... all this probably comes down to Dow, Dupont and Monsanto in the end. : )

  • GRACIAS.

Muy bonito e interesante. Gracias por vuestra apuesta por la vida y la defensa de los seres vivos.

    fetogarra

  • i know im gonna get a lot of shit for this... but if these people are losing their reproductive abilities because of a job, it helps keep more farms like this from being able to operate because there arent as many people to give jobs to. people would start complaining about no jobs and overpopulation. it seems every one is trying to find a cause.

  • That is horrific. Greed is so destructive. Amazing work you have there!

  • Very good point made through knowledge and art.....that was awsome thank you.

  • Amazing, what a wonderful and great work!

  • i love your animation and artwork its amazing i like how it makes point and isnt one like eveyone elses (with stickmen fighting you know) carry on it amazing

    xx

    grace

  • I really think this is outstanding.

The way that it is illustrated makes the problem stand out. I also think it is made interesting to watch, which would keep adults focussed on the message and children would understand because it is made so clear.

I really had never thought about this before, i definately will now. Well done x

  • Cheers dude, means a lot :]

  • interesting....good animation too

    thanks for posting!

  • Not so unlike the chocolate industry... and the diamond industry... the impoverished provide for not only the affluent... but the average life in the Western world! Blessings... ENTICIA

  • wow. that was amazing. really good points - i had no idea but i haven't even thought about it. ill certainly think twice when i buy cheap flowers.

    x

by the way - how long did that take you to make!?!

  • thank you, it took about a year, though i was working for some of that time :]

  • Excellent work, Paul and Rebecca! So often, socially-conscious art contains more message than authentic art. Not so here! The animated images are gorgeous, the music perfect, and the text interludes chilling. Congratulations for bringing the plight of exploited women to our attention with first-rate art! 5!

  • This is amazing....I don't even want to know how long this must have taken..

You did great. Brilliant way of opening eyes.

  • Thanks to your efforts I will only buy local flowers from now on. I am already buying ONLY local farm produce and meat here in beautiful Tennessee. Thanks for the heads up!

  • inspirational -

thanks for educating us on this factor..

Thanks for Choosing to USE your VOICE...

  • Thank you Proshka, I'm pleased you lfound it interesting. Keep up the good work yourself :]

  • Hey Darlin! Nice video yea?

  • Thanks for posting!

I'm afraid, u could do thousands of such films. All on different matters, all true; but nothing would generally change the way we think about problems that we don't see on the news every night.

  • Paul, great all around. sorry I missed this until now.

  • Did that stuff really happen?

  • i'm afraid so

  • This is an amazing video. Thanks for waking me up to whats really happening!

  • So i guess this plant stuff is true. If you watched the Happening, you would know what im talking about.

  • right, after viewing this video, I prefer to grow flowers in my garden instead of buy those grown by industry...

  • So wonderful!

  • ....

This had already impacted me, but the part with the flower/vagina really hit me for some reason. I don't think I want to buy those roses anymore..... Roses are beautiful plants, but they are not so beautiful that you would put all those chemical's into the Earth, or not even take the measures to keep the workers safe.

This makes me really sad. I had no idea about this. Thank you for waking me up :(

  • Beautiful video!!

Man's inhumanity to man is sickening.

What is the answer?!!! Yours is doing something by pointing it out. Until now a little bunch of flowers from the grocery store was a boost for my spirits, no more!

  • I had no knowledge of this issue. Our lack of consumer awareness is shameful. Thanks for doing your part to open our eyes!

I don't know how I overlooked this video before now. As always, absolutely beautiful artwork Paul. Your work never fails to effect me.

  • Thank you Milas, I haven't had the chance to upload this over on tailcast yet. I'm pleased you enjoyed it as it's the piece I'm most proud of, so cheers :]

  • A very good video, with a sincere and deep message that everyone should know about.

  • thanks Joaquin, I don't know when I'll next have the chance to make an animation, though perhaps I'll try and do a quick one soon :]

  • Excellent!!

  • i love this. you're right. they do complement eachother, my picture and your video. =]

keep up what you're doing. raise awareness about situations like this. it's important, even if the rest of the world doesn't think so.

    [=

  • Thanks Shannan :] And you keep up the good work too! Your artwork is fantastic!

  • i really like the video but its a pity about your analysis - there is not enough land and water for all the people who work the flower farms. If they didn't work there, they would either be fighting for the little that's available (remember how quickly conflict happened two months ago?) or huddling into the hellhole Nairobi slums ... if you want to feel good, buy the roses and campaign for better wages on the farms - luv magicmike

  • the problem with a global free market economy is its nearly impossible for us to truly understand all the consequences to our actions. thanks for opening my eyes to a few of them.

  • Beautiful, really amazing work, some of the best I've seen on youtube. It's truly heart breaking what we ruin lives and the environment for. I searched google to find out where american flowers come from and we've got the same problem with south america. Also, a blog with your video was the number 4 hit for "where do american flowers come from" so if people ask questions your video is there to inform. Cheers

  • i always knew that small ladies cuted and planted the big seeds :P

    inpressive

  • thank you :)

  • I loved ur animation! I just wonder how did u make it, what programs did u use to creat it??

  • thank you very much.. details in the description :)

  • this kind of thing sould be on TV, so more people get the message.

  • thank you :)

  • Paul, I've only just seen this! ... it's amazing!

Fantastic animation on such an important topic.

  • Ah cheers Ivens. It's probably the piece I'm most proud of in all honesty. So nice one :)

  • this is more beautiful watching it the fourth time!! :)...what music was used im curious?

  • Haha! thank you kindly :)

  • thank you....

  • and thank you :)

  • It's terrible

I hate the people who run this world....

Video's like this need to be shown because i suppose you can't really blame people if they don't know whats going on

People need to know these things

Beatiful paintings by the way as usual! :)

  • Thanks very much :)

  • Thank´s for opening up my eyes a little more...

    nice and strong piece!!!

  • Thank you for watching :)

  • waauw this video is beautiful! you must have been working on that for ages!!

    really really nice!

i don't even live in the UK, but i'll try not to buy a lot of flowers anymore. :)

i think it's very good you make people think about how not even flowers should be taken for granted. Thank you. :)

  • Thanks a lot KICKASSx3.. I think you deserve an upgrade to KICKASSx4 by now.

    :))

  • wow, what a beautiful way to inform people.

  • wow thsi si beautiful i looove it u should give it to the henry art musame as ne of there vidios cause it's very unigu and i'm sure they would pay alot for this!!!

  • This is an amazing video. This year, I'm going to plant my own flowers, and it's all because of you. So much pain in this world is caused by our ignorance, and you helped cure a little bit of mine.

  • Thank you. Thank you very much indeed, it means a lot.

    peace ,v,,

  • I aways plant my own flowers. I like to watch them grow from little seedlings to full blown lovely flowers. The flowers in the store are pretty but I would rather watch them grow...though I often kill the flowers before they get very big...

  • the last comment made it for me :)

    2 gold stars :)

  • ^-^ thank you!

though I shouldnt get those gold stars, no need to be geting a reward for doing what is right.

  • No wonder you have the 'Make art' videos. Your work is beautiful.

Messages like this really do raise awareness. So, for what it's worth. Thank you.

  • Wow~ this was amazing!!! I've always been a strong believer in buying flower seeds and giving people 'alive' flowers which they can keep in their home or plant in their garden... I never really could explain why before... something about the metaphor of giving a gift that would die really bothered me. Thanks for this. This is amazing...

  • thank you very much for your comment. Much appreciated :)

  • I love youtube... great job mate you are doing your part.

  • you know Im still not dead

  • Dude this is a reallly good video, your animation is soo goood.

I love it when videos have a good message behind them.

    -Ian

  • First thing I did after watching this was run downstairs and tell my mum to check where the flowers she buys come from! Action people : )

  • I didnt know flowers grew that tall!

  • I never knew they came from east africa. This is going on my website!

  • Thank you very much goldflower! I appreciate your support very much :)

  • Excellent, thought provoking video!

  • thank you gasworks, I'm pleased you found it interesting :)

  • that is really really good.

What did you use to edit this?

    PLease check out my videos!

  • thanks Ben, details in the description my friend :)

  • I love this film.

Im a florist myself and this is effecting alot of things in the trade.

To make it worse the flowers that these women are producing are not getting looked after properly so when people do buy them they die quicker then flowers that you would by from an independent flower shop. Thankfully I work in a flower shop which is just inside a supermarket and alot of the local people by from the flower shop instead of the supermarket thus making the supermarket by less flowers in. :)

  • paul, this video was amazingly beautiful. thank you.

    dunielle

  • great video! awesome job, keep it up! ;)

  • now I've seen this I'm going to have to stop buying flowers for my Mum! will have to find a fair trade /organic source if there is one. Or grow my own. X

  • great video.. i have all my faith in the person who did it.

but i have lost it on the human species.

i have seen wonderdul flowers and a wide variety fo plants being cropped in the u.k.

and i have also seen some good sustainable crops that can feed people in africa.

so why is this happening? GOOD OLD HUMAN GREED!!

  • Thank you for your comment odinmp5. Thanks for your feedback and I'm pleased you liked it. Greed indeed.

  • Hey man!!! this is my second video iv watched of yours paul, and you are fantastic!

  • you're too kind, thank you :)

  • Awesome video, I didnt know anything about the problem untill I watched this video. Thanks man.

  • Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it :)

  • *ridiculous

  • Oh my god! How fucking rididulous! growing flowers in africa!! So its cheap to ship water to such a sry place than it is just to pay people in the uk to grow flowers themselves in a naturally wet environment? Shocking! I'm so glad I don't buy flowers because they're too cliched! amazing video by the way, very well put together! :)

    Sarahx

  • Thanks Sarah, I'm really pleased you found it interesting :)

  • I can't believe you have answered almost all the comments on here!! Even the one where some idiot called you "gay". What is so worng about gayness?!!! it's like the ultimate insult on youtube too!! sad idiots.

    Sarahx

p.s I'm nearly finished on my "make art" video! woop!

  • Nice!

  • Why don' t u marry me? We can go to live in sicily, sun is good for art. Have u ever seen Etna volcan?

  • Sounds good to me. What's the weather like this time of year?

    I haven't seen Etna, no.

  • the colours and the light of spring is amazing and you get drunk only for the smells of the flower (but if u live you have other problems than the flowers, the sea and the volcano.....)eh eh eh eh eh eh ehehe hehehehe

  • Bringing attention to this problem in such an inspired way is beautiful, thank you.

  • Thank you joe. Means a lot mate

  • The way you integrated your art with the message was really effective. I'll never be able to look at cut flowers the same way again.

  • thank you, I'm pleased you though so.

  • wow. amazing.

  • das is die traurige realität ..wir müssen bald mal was gegen die zerstörung unseres planeten tun.....aber etwas handfestes ..nicht immer nur reden wie die ganzen politiker...die können ehh nich viel außer reden

  • Where you wanna start..where you wanna end?? the whole world is suffering because of our behaviour.

  • Very interesting; it's a problem I've never heard about. By the way beautiful artwork!

  • that's pretty kool, i like your style, and pretty tough..... thanks for posting it here it's art, i'm always happy when i see people who still do arts....;-)

  • amazing! you painted that with your heart :)

I would give you 10 Stars!

    Relly well done!

  • this is very gdgd

  • TOOL - THE POT ! reminds me^^

  • yes definetly!!! that tool video was amazing...as are all of them...as is this one.

  • amaizing its going into my favorites!!

  • thank you very much!

  • do you draw this?

  • I painted it.. acrylic on canvas then scanned to photoshop and animated in after effects :)

  • really good movie.

Share it with consumers, people, schools all over the world

  • wow. that's heartbreaking. the bit where the women is about to cut off her newly budded reproductive system really got to me as someone who really wants kids. the whole thing was really powerful. thanks for the message. anyone up for changing the world for the better? we need more Jesus in the world. we need more awareness of things like this, and more people with a passion to make a difference as a result. thanks for enlightening me through this video :) x

  • Thank you. Really, I appreciate it a lot. I have a love-hate relationship with this one. But the piece I'm most proud of.

    peace x

  • I had no idea. This is very disturbing. Thanks for the information.

  • Bloody good video! A few days ago I have written an article about the subject and put it on my BLOG. I am posting this today on my website and link it to my own article to raise more awareness.

  • that's brilliant! thank you very much.. please email me a link so that I can have a read.. many thanks!

  • Hi there - viola woolcott . com

    luvy . org

I love how you done the 'work'...very nice!

  • I love this one, brilliant!

  • hello

  • Wow, I didn't know that buying flowers could cause that much damage... You really opened my eyes. The video is impressing...

  • i think more people should see this video(and other ones, wich show this global injustice) and it makes me sad that its limited on a platform like youtube. everybody who sees it thinks:"yes, its not right what happens there." but how can we make a change? i dont have the answer. but its good to see that there are some people on this world who are able to recognize these problems that will reach everyone of us some time!

(pls excuse possible mistakes [from Germany])

  • Thank you very much for your comment. It was written perfectly!

From the points you have made, I would say that perhaps youtube can be good as a source of information, as freedom of speech on such a site is more likely to present us with a more balanced view on things. Yet it is difficult to compete against the more mainstream content in this environment.

  • Very well animated, Paul! And with a relevant issue/message. Kudos!

  • nice video but i think u guys missed the point..i come from kenya where those flowers are grown people are paid peanuts. its sad!

  • Brilliant video.

  • pure love! pure love!

  • Wow....what a cool video. Thanks!

  • When the roses are fully grown they look like lolly pops.

  • they do a bit, don't they.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this info. with the world, it has needed to be done for quite some time. I grow and cut my own flowers, of course without chemicals and sell or give away bouquets. Couldn't imagine being surrounded by all the pesticides.. my heart goes out to the people whom are affected by this poison. Love to you.

  • Nice

  • im supermarkt oder bei blume 2..0

  • Well now we know what we don't want with Valentine! You'd better pick a good movie or go out to have a romantic dinner. Great clip. Thanks!

  • The artwork and animation alone are amazing... a very beautiful way to tell such a devastating tale.

  • Inspiring!

    Thankyou.

  • Wow. The part that got me was that they are basically taking water away from people who need it to send it to people who have plenty of it. Any why? To make pretty things. But surely if you have so much water, you could grow your own flowers?

Who knew the flower industry was so brutal?

  • very moving.

  • i never thougt that it is like in the video. it is a fantastic animation. 5 stars^^
