  • This was when the whole cast was involved it was not the Jason, Carly Sonny show.... And not to say that I don't love Sonny and Jason but let's be real... A legacy gh staple just died and she 6 minutes of airtime... come on....... That is crap.. They need to show some respect for the people who watch gh..

  • Sad

  • - The period on GH when Claire and Matthew Labine were the head writers are the absolute APEX in soap story-writing. No other show has come close since. And unfortunately, GH has suffered tremendously since they left.

  • @smoothpants OMG I bawled my eyes out and you are so right!!!

  • it true moments like these were few and they were memorable and fabulous, miss the show when it was like this...

  • I've never seen this side of Sonny before. So this was GH in the good old days.

  • This is a tear jerker....

    : (

  • Why can't GH be like this again?? These were the days when the storylines/writing were powerful and meaningful.

Sonny, Jason, Robin, and Luke these characters were so great and now they barely interact with each other (well aside from Sonny and Jason).

  • This Is Sad,Sonny A Mobster With A Heart

  • I will never forget this.... so sad.

  • Whats luke to robin or stone?

  • @1karley Luke was Sonny's best friend at this time. Robin's father Robert was Luke's best friend years earlier.

  • Aw :( that's really sad.

  • Goodness, I bawled my brains out. The only thing that stopped me for a second was Luke's hair, hahahahha, awesome!

  • Unreal how young they all were here! Then again, so were all of us lol...GH has NOT been the same since...It all started to go downhill once 2000 hit! Haven't missed an episode since Luke & Laura's wedding...The 80's/90's ruled for this soap!

  • cried so hard

  • it's weird how i ended up here on world AIDS day, but this has to be one of the best plots written on this awful disease.

  • How did he die ??? I have only watched 2010- now

  • @TheHedleygirl1998 he had aids, it's where Robin got HIV from..he didnt know he had it when they had sex

  • @TheHedleygirl1998 he had AIDS

  • I think the sonny we all love died when lily and his baby died in the car bomb

  • I only watched half of this video to hard and sad.

  • I cannot watch this. Too too hard.

  • One question...what was Kevin's link to Stone? i can't quite remember...

  • @brinpol Kevin was the one who told Stone that he was positive

  • GH was on fire this era...BJ's heart, Stone's death, Monica's cancer...so many great dramatic medical stories...what a great 3some of stories...

  • 1:20 God restoring his vision. The greatest thing he could "see" before he died.

  • aww she was thing he saw before he died :(

  • Poor sonny. I really think this is what made him what he is today. Stone's death killed a part of Sonny that never came back.

  • Stone's gasp, the look on his face...it always breaks me. God I loved GH back then. I remember watching this and just sobbing. Oh if only it were still this good.

  • I was in high school when this first aired and I remember RUSHING home from school to catch this!! Then I spent the next hour bawling my eyes out!!!!

  • My heart is breaking all over again! I've read Robin's Diary so many times and to have this clip just ... GH was the best in those last 2 years.

  • I have been looking for a clip of the GH opening that they used with special music - I think it was the day Stone died. I remember it so clearly from when I watched the original show, but I haven't been able to find it on YT anywhere. Do you have any idea where I might find it?

  • This is such a beautifully done scene! Everytime I watch I can't help but cry. I was too young to watch it then, but I thank whoever posted this vid... GH just isn't what it use to be! Robin and Stone was wonderful together and everyone who played a part in this was amazing! Wish there was a way to recover the old GH instead of this mess they call acting today or the stupid storylines that just don't seem to hold there own!

RIP Stone and the old GH!

  • BTW- my ex didn't die of AIDS like Stone. He was hit by a truck.

  • I love GH. This was great but so sad. I was only a baby when this aired the first time, but Robin talks about him a lot now, so I decided I'd look it up. This is so sad! I cried. Reminds me of my ex.

  • I watch GH today, and I have to say this is the BEST storyline this show created! I didn't watch this when it aired originally, but have been told this was one of the highlights of GH!

  • 7 people must not know the meaning of love. How could anyone DISLIKE Stone/Robin????

  • I just can't stop crying, so much pain. the 90's were the high point of GH

  • This scene always makes me cry my eyes out. Its so emotional and good! When he says "I see you", then that's it, I'm gone lol

  • 1 of 2 greatest love stories ever told on GH

  • I have the book Robin's Diary and it makes it that much more real. They were a truly amazing couple. Seeing them together again when Robin was trapped was heart breaking.

  • besttt story line evaa !

  • The relationships....wow..I forgot how close all of these characters used to be, and now...NOTHING like what it was. What has happened to GH?

  • @faeriesrock LOL. You have friends who barely speak to each other, and when they do, there's no genuine warmth. Does Guza not have any friends in real life, lol???

  • @Rosannasfriend I'm thinking NOT, and he most def has an issue with ladies b/c of the way he writes all the women on GH! Have you ever seen any of the male characters go to Shadybrook? How many of the ladies have now been there, and there bc of a MAN. lol GH is a shadow of what it used to be, I can't believe TPTB haven't seen the light?! Why do they refuse to go into a new direction with the show? Tony Geary recently commented on it as well.

  • @faeriesrock really? What did Tony say?

  • @faeriesrock One word" Guza " he has ruin this show so much over the years .It will never be the number 1 soap like it was in the 1980's or have great s/l's like this anymore.

  • @babykittycook

Forget about having a "great storyline," I would just like to have one that made sense.

  • @bauprofiler ITA .LOL

  • @babykittycook AMEN!

  • Sonny was so good in these scenes.

  • Oh My... The second time Stone said "Robin I see you".... I got emotional... then I lost it when she came to him and closed his eyes and you see the last tear drop... OMG! And then Sonny saying "He's dead, he's ok, he's ok".... Bravo.

Someone please tell me where I can watch Robin and stone's story from the beginning please....

  • @waltnolfa i know i feel the exact same way.

  • WOW. One very clear difference btw the GH today and the GH of old, is here every damn body cares about Stone and his loss, whereas now you only a small group of characters who hang around each other and care about each other. They are so isolated. The show is so cold today compared to then.

  • @Rosannasfriend Well said. They just don't write stories like this, nor relationships as solid and intimate...couple stories are no where NEAR what they used to be. This story, along with Elizabeth and Lucky's rape story were two of my favorites from the late nineties...such innocence and unselfishness...I miss THIS GH.

  • This will always be why I love Sonny, always.

  • Wow...the classic GH...with Sonny & Brenda....Robin & Stone...No other soap/storyline, not even in new GH will ever beat that!!!

This scene is unbelievably memorable...no amount of time can change that!

Thanks so much for posting it!

  • I a a new watcher to GH like in the last year, I never knew stone or robin together only from what robin has said and i find myself crying when i watch any of his scenes...that shows the power and emotion behind this story and how it will leave a mark for years to come. I'm looking forward to the few days next week where see sees him

  • who was stone i mean who was he related to evryone seemed to care for him much

  • @missgabbylove21 Sonny rescued him off of the streets and took him in. He was basically homeless before that and running with a bad crowd. Sonny and Stone were like brothers. Thats how Robin became Sonny's "little sister."

  • This scene gives me chills everytime that I watched it. I love Sonny and Brenda, don't get me wrong; but after watching these old episodes of Robin and Stone, I think they were the best soap couple ever. I mean, I hope that Sonny and Brenda get back together, but I just loved how Robin and Stone's love was so unconditional and she stayed with him until the end. I wish GH was still like this.

  • damn man whoever was writing then....labine rt? wow, what happened to her !!!??

  • A true classic!!!! One of the best storylines of all time!

  • Broke my heart back then and it still breaks my heart now. :(

One of the best GH storylines ever

  • This is the saddest ending to one of GH's best storylines ever. Even though I know what's going to happen I still end up crying like a baby. No other scene has ever made me cry as much as this one.

Can't wait for Michael and Kimberly to reunite in September (even if it's in a dream sequence). I hope they will have the same chemistry as they had in the past.

  • When Stone returns in late September, they need to have a marathon for him like they did for Brenda... even if he's coming back as a ghost.

  • @lilsushigirl good idea. i'm sure they'll be some clips, i guess...

  • michael sutton is returning to gh september 28th!

  • Totally crying but jeez Sonny is Hawt!!!! This was such a great s/l had all my favorite players.

  • I bawl before it even starts

  • @JASAMNJEXIE4EVA I know I haven't even pressed play yet and already I'm leaking tears.

  • I am Bawling my eyes out and i didn't even watch the show back then.

  • Thank you for posting this. I cry every time I watch it. Stone was such an awesome character.

  • mauricio benard or maurice was so beautiful hair skin the dark sexy latino man he is gorgeous. i love him here and did not know his lil bro there died yet so sad great great scene i feel so sad already. again.but i love gh back them 90s were so real so good. i hate it most part today. but still watch off/on for robin few others.great scene

  • i miss the love with teen robin and stone was so mature toward the end strong man he was and what a great all time actor he is as kimberly. so sad i am goin to cry again aw.thx for the clips i am adding to my fave.awww. rip stone i love him. i miss him on gh.

  • They all look so differnt sunny esiplly

  • i am soo glad that she talk aboout him when sonny took him in.

    he was helping robin. out.

  • There was a cute memorable scene between Felicia and Robin just after Robin was talking to Mac about stone dying. Felicia came to the door and Robin said your here becuz you know he's gone. That scene made me cry, Felicia was always a second mom to her. I cried when i saw brenda come to the door too. no other story line on Gh or soap history has done what they did here.

  • I cannot stop crying watching this scene...even when i'm not watching it and just thinking about it makes me cry. Quality acting!!!

  • End to a greet team...Sonny and Stone,

  • This is the GH I love. I didn't start watching until 2003, but I've watched basically all of the 90's stories here, and it doesn't even seem like the same show. They really need to go back to storytelling like this.

  • omg i am crying a river they were so good together itss soo sad xx

  • I cry everytime I see this. One of the best of all time!

  • I cry everytime I see this. One of the best of all time!

  • If there's one storyline that first comes to mind when someone mentions GH during the 90's, "Stone's AIDS" is usually the first one!

This was one of the most important, heartbreaking, and realistic storylines GH has EVER done.

  • geez! i dont know how many years later, but this scene still makes me cry.

  • totally agreed. they even mention stone today and i'm a mess. have you read "robin's diary"? great read even today. especially if you remember this story line. alright, where are my tissues?! geesh!

  • This and the "BJ's Heart" story lines were the two best ever. The writing, acting.....never better. I had never seen Luke so soft and quiet as this. Acting was the best ever; wish we could see the likes of this again on GH. I miss the way it used to be.

  • I was at work when this was on and I had to going in the bathroom and I was like brought to my knees...this HAD to be the saddest storyline they ever did.

  • Ok GH at it's all time BEST.... Sonny, Robin, Brenda, Lucky, Luke.. This is what a Soap's SHOULD be. Where is the Sonny and Robin, or Luke and Robin or Lucky and Robin.. This is how GH should write storylines..

  • breaks my fuckin heart ....

  • the best story line GH has ever done. they need stories like this again!!!!!!

  • I can't believe this November is gonna be 15 years since Stone died! I think they should do something to mark that, maybe have Michael Sutton do a guest apperence.

  • wow maurice is young!!! This breaks my heart all over again....it reminds me why we all love sonny even though he is who he is.

  • yeap sometimes he make you want to pull your hair out but you love him anyway

    great acti by all

  • That would suck if Robin dies of HIV.

  • stone was like another son to sonny and who knew then what hardache fwould follow sonny

  • One of the saddest story-lines of General Hospital other than when Sam lost her baby. No matter how many times i watch them i cry in both of those story lines.

  • No matter how bad Sonny can be I just can't help adoring the man!! Maurice was superb here!!

  • @ghlusam Sonny was a much better character back then. Much more layers and nuance and depth...back then, even though you knew he was a mobster, you still rooted for him. Now? Not so much.

  • The saddest storyline in the history of GH!!!

  • After all these years watching this it still makes me ball my eyes out. It also saddens me I no longer watch the soap I love and loved for 34yrs. How anyone can be happy with the s/l and the couples on GH today is beyond me. Hey soap gods get a clue and give us back the real GH:(

  • This was the most heartbreaking stories they ever dealt with but it also a way of telling kids out there to be careful and when you make the right choices being responsible with yourself Aids still exists and have known people who have died from it and would not wish that on anyone gay or straight Robin & Stone storyline was the best of GH of that time it was touching.

  • Does anyone know the name of the music playing when Sonny is by Stone's side around 5:02??

  • It was a song written for the storyline, don't think it's available for download anywhere.

  • OMG, I cried the whole 10 minutes and 52 seconds as if one of my family members had died.. The acting... PERFECTION.

  • "Stone's AIDS" is usually considered one of the greatest storylines in GH HIStory because it dealt with such a serious health issue that affects millions of people worldwide.

It is a very, very special storyline that ranks right up there with "BJ's heart", "Elizabeth's rape", and others.

  • When Sonny starts to cry I just loose it. I remember when this first aired and I'm still crying like a baby. God this was a fabulous story and acting by all involved.

  • Yeah I remember this when I was a little kid when my parents used to watch it. It's such a memorable storyline and a heartwrenching scene from the show back in the 90's.

  • actually, when lucky supposedly died in the fire, that also made me cry..up to the point when jj started crying when locked up w/ liz's picture.

  • I remember that moment as well! JJ was such a great actor and the ONE & ONLY Lucky Spencer back then.

[I actually cried from start to finish back when he and Elizabeth married each other for the 1st time back when JJ was still on like in '98. ]

  • I swear if this doesnt break your heart u dont have one

  • Amazing. Just amazing. Current GH needs a new writing team because it makes ya wanna SCREAM most of the time.

  • That was so sweet how Stone got to see Robin for the last time.

  • Yeah, they don't write soaps like this anymore. I think the last storyline that came close to being realisitic was Michael's shooting (which I still wish never happened). That scene is heartbreaking. Too bad Lily was in it. She was the worst.

  • The last story line that was heartbreaking was when Sam lost her baby. I was a wreck. :((((

  • There are absolutly no words to describe the moment he died, he still had tears falling down his face. I think this story line sumed it up that it is truely better to have love and lost to have never loved at all.

  • this was one of the best death scenes in gh and the other one was bjs death that was hard to see but great

  • yep, bj's death was very sad too but stone's storyline was the only one on gh which has ever made me cry and continues to make me cry everytime i watch it, come to think of it, every time i hear this music, tears roll down. I doubt GH will ever be this good again. michael getting shot is nothing compared to stone's death...stone brought everyone together on gh..michael just brought back sarah brown, let's thank gh at least for that!

  • This is by far the best death scene in the history of GH...It makes me cry and feel with them every time I watch it.

  • @tuyyo1316 and BJ's death. Two best scenes ever.

  • @Tyjo92 Yes, I have to agree!! =)

  • JadeGem your comment on the acting is spot on. It would have been so hard for such young people to do but boy they were brilliant. So realistic and a scene that I have never ever forgotten.

  • boy, i forgot how hard this was to watch. Wow. so powerful and sad. thank you for posting this and reminding me how good GH used to be. I loved robin and stone. To me this was everything GH used to be. Thank you for letting me experience my favorite couple all over again. This was a real gift.

  • I agree with you...this IS what GH used to be. I do not watch the show like I used to but when I do, I am not at all impressed with the storylines. These were the good ole days when the characters and storylines had depth.

  • god this still gets me every time! gh was sooooo good, what happened? after like 2004 (and that is being very generous) everything just crashed and burned. this is so beautiful and raw, and robin is so different now, so is sonny and even jason and carly etc. we need the old gh back

  • oh my gosh, tears my heart out

  • I know this is a stupid question but I have only been a GH fan since 02 but who was Stone Cates? I hear Robin and Sonny mention him from time to time. From what I can tell he was a respected figure in Port Chuck.

  • GH has gotten away from having the best friendship relationships in daytime. Robin and Sonny and Robin and Brenda (when she was there) Luke and Sonny, Sonny and Jason. The only friendship they have managed to stay true to is Jason and Carly and that's only becuase of the kids. It just sucks that they ruined those great friendship to give us crap relationships like Liz and Jason or Sam and Lucky and even Kate and Sonny how wretched. I'll take a good ole fashion best friend relationship anyday.

  • The characters were all so likeable then. Robyn is now highly annoying most of the time and Sonny is not very likeable these days. What happened?

    These scenes were heartwrenching.

  • This was the best storyline for daytime tv. I was an addict of GH at the time and this was a bold move for them to take. This show was written to be shown on World AIDS Day. That was also the day, about an hour after watching this episode, that I learned another friend had died of this disease. It brought the point home even more. This show showed how tv, and daytime, can educate and change minds. Wish they would find another storyline like this one.

  • I have to say, I watch this over and over and can never keep from crying. I am able to hold it in until Sonny looks at her and says "He's okay. He's okay." I break down every time. Amazing amazing amazing acting. They were and always will be my favorite pairing and favorite characters. I stopped watching shortly after this. I couldn't watch after that. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • this story hits so close to home to me. my dad died from aids. it was one year later when stone died on nov. 30th on the show. excactly one year to the day of my dad. go figure the next day was proclaimed world aids day. dec. irst. yes, sonny's reaction gets me too. brings back alot of sad memories.

  • i love the piano music in the background, its perfect for this type of ending.

  • a very sad ending

  • I've watched GH for about 10 years now, so I missed all this. I know Stone's connection to Robin and Sonny.. but can someone tell me how Luke, Brenda and Lucy fit in.

  • Luke, Brenda and Lucy were all god friends of Robin and Stone. In fact, some correct me if I am wrong, I think Stone might have worked for Luke at one point.

  • Luke and Sonny were business partners in his first night club. Stone worked for Sonny and Luke, but he was more of a friend to them both.

  • GH has gone down hill. They do not have good story lines anymore.

  • I didn't watch GH back then. But this is a really moving scene. I have one question though. What exactly happend to Stone? Can someone reply or message me the answer? thanks! =)

  • Stone died of AIDS.

  • Stone was sort of homeless and Sonny took him in, give hime a job, he was more like a brother to him. He got AIDS before he start working with Sonny. He met Robin and they fell deeply in love. They become intimate before he knew he had AIDS, Robin got HIV from Stone. but their love was do deep she and everyone else stood by him until the end. I guess it was GH way of educating people about the disease. The Nurses Ball was started to raise money and awareness about AIDS/HIV Great storyline

  • I've watched GH off and on since '81 and this was during one of those off times and I hate that I missed it. From what i've seen of the clips it was one of the better story lines. I watched the whole Liz and Lucky storyline and you are right. GH does not live up to it's legendary days.

  • The part where Sonny crumbles into tears while holding Stone's hand ... it gets me every time. I'm sniffling right now. God I wish Sonny and Robin were still close like this and the storylines were as ood as it was back then. I still watch GH today but it sooooo does not live up to it's legendary days.

  • This storyline was beautifully done. I agree, GH has become a shell of its former self.

  • Oh yeah, they got me. *cries*

  • it's been 13 years since this aired, and i still cry just as hard every time i watch this. this was by far one of the most moving, emotional, and educational storylines on General Hospital, and probably on all of daytime television as well. Wonderfully and mesmerizingly portrayed to us by Stone, Robin, Sonny and Brenda. This is what acting should be. Wow.

  • i cry my eyes out every time i see this

  • This made me cry!!!!!!

  • GH is so irrelevant now I don't even know why they bother to air it anymore. It seems like they are just wasting perfectly decent Actors time. They can't afford to pay everyone so they just keep killing off Characters, the storylines are just pointless due to it, the whole soap in the meantime has become laughable.I'm disgusted. I mean nothing can top these scenes in any soap!GH will never be able to recover after killing off so many people and not even tugging at anyones' heartstrings anymore.

  • The scene where Robin rushes into Brenda's arms is one of the most touching and real moments I've seen on a soap opera.

  • This is the Sonny I miss!!

  • This was the best love story ever told. I was just thinking how Michael Sutton(Stone) did not win an award and thinking were the stoned???This was excellent acting!!!

  • how old was stone when this happened? robin?

  • 19?

  • yeah, she seemed to be somewhere from 16-21...thanks..

  • she was 17, stone was 18.

but michael sutton (stone) in real-life was 24.

  • that doesn't surprise me...i heard Steve Burton was in his forties and Jason's supposed to be 26-8...thanks!

  • I don't think they are trying to play Jason as late twenties. He's meant to be the same age as Robin and since this was 13 years ago she's supposed to be around 30 or 31 on the show now... so is Jason.

  • ah...i guess i got my information wrong, thanks for correcting me..

  • of course they did age him like 10 years in a year when he went to boarding school haha. I still wish it was this soap now and not the one that it is... I mean what the hell are they doing with the michael storyline? recreating BJ? it was heartbreaking enough that time

  • yeah, i'm not too fond of the writers trying to always kill off the most innocent characters...but on the promos it says Sonny and Carly will lose him..but then they ask "Will he die?"...doesn't make much sense...

  • how sad:(

  • love when mary mae visit stone at the hospital, very touchin scene, she was nominated for an emmy too.

  • yea mary mae was great and underrated
