Her character in the movie was very well done, but it seems that someone saw Blade Runner and decided to make a movie based on certain aspects of Darryl Hanna's character. The eye makeup in this audition is a good example.

This isn'tan audition tape its a screen test. This is where they experiment with codstumes, make-up and other things on film before principal filming begins. This was prbably a preliminary design for leeloo before they finished the initial character designs.
