@Olemwrongway The problem is that a bond movie only gets to call itself official if its made by MGM... you know... the company whith the lion logo before the start of every official bond movie. though everybody calls never say never again an unofficial movie, i think its a great one and the fact that Sean Connery is in it makes it even better. The first bond to ever play bond played it.

But to come back to the point. Its not official because the MGM company didn't made it.

Yes it is a remake of Thunderball and yes it´s not an official Bond-movie! Too bad Connery diden´t keep his promise, to never do another Bond-movie again! Why Bond-enthusiasts hate it?? Everything about is is bad, and most importantly, like all Brosnan movies, there´s zero bond-feeling in this one!

No classic title sequence and not a sign of Q, the appearance of Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson) was strange to, but seeing Sean was great, odd that there was also "Octapussy" so this must of been an independent movie, anyways looks like a remake of thunderball, enjoyable, gold-finger would of been nice as remake perhaps :)

Despite of many people hate this movie I found Never Say Never Again really great and entertaining Action/Adventure movie. Sean Connery was old but no less impressive James Bond. Kim Basinger was special one - definitely one of the most beautiful and memorable Bond Girls.

Max von Sydow, Klaus Maria Brandauer and Barbara Carrera were great as well.

Worst Bond Film with Sean. Never Say Never Again was not a regular 007 movie, it was an independent production by the producer of Thunderball in the 1960's. Only two independent Bond films have every been made, this one, and the 1967 Casino Royal with David Niven.

its not a bond film...its a remake of Thunderball...Flemming and McClory had a court case about this....People think its an OFFICIAL bond film only because Sean plays 007 in it....Flemming Created james bond and yes NSNA is one of his books this is NOT part of EON's Bond film franchise therefore not a bond film in the series...same goes for Casino Royale but thats a different story...

I knew about Never Say Never's history but my point was, WHY should it matter what studio put it out, unless it was a film so cheap that it wasn't worthy of a Bond film? How does it effect you personally? Is Peter Jackson's "King Kong" not official because it was a remake? The Tarzan "franchise" was owned by multiple studios over the years. I think this is an industry-poisoned way to think about movies. I saw both NSNA and Octopussy that year and it was a great year for 007 fans!

well octopussy only beat this movie slightly, both movies had a very similar budget.

never say never again, budget 36 million, box office = 160 million

octopussy, budget 35 million, box office 187,5 million

but then again, octopussy was released during summer and never say never again during the autumn which may have contributed to octopussy earning slightly more, as summer is bigger for movies.

My apologies SpOrtyGirl, that was harsh of me. There was a dispute between the two original producers of the Bond movies. One guy left the franchise but still had the rights to "Thunderball" so he remade it with Connery in '83 as "Never Say Never". I just get annoyed when people write something off as invalid for reasons that shouldn't matter to any of us outside the movie industry. Why do we care how much a movie makes or who made it? That's accounting, not art.
