People need to see the middle ground with opinion here. @ NerdsUnited47, I respect that you analyzed this situation and i believe you have some compelling points. That said, a gunship pilot in the hotseat does not have the luxury of zooming in, replaying, slowing down, and carefully studying the videos to make a carefully informed decision. This is not a shoot-or-be-shot situation, however if these men were indeed insurgents, the gunman's decision to fire could've saved lives down the road.
Also, there were points in this video where you failed to meet a standard of proof for your conjecture: for instance, there is no support to the asseriton that the gun operator "wanted to pull the trigger". given that they took many minutes to recieve the go-ahead on this engagement suggests to me that even if the questions were rhetorical, all the USAF personnell involved followed proper guidelines for engagement.
Whether their decision was correct or mislead might never be known, so I would suggest everyone here consider what I've said and realize there might be no wrong or right here.

If your troops are getting fired at by rpg's on a regular basis what does the guy running into the field look like he is dropping, why is he running both ways?.
Its a combat zone and his behaviour coupled with the shape of the item forced a quick combat fire decision at that moment in time. They couldnt spend hours watching video.

3) in my 3 tours in iraq from 03-06 most attacks (rockets,motors,etc...) were launched from such fields.

nerdsunited, how much free time do you have? get a fucking job. how do you know they were just farmers? Hes just gonna go give that rpg to one of his buddies to kill some americans. Im sure you wouldnt be thinking this way if you were actually out in the fight, but no, youre one of those guys who will sit on their computer for hours analyzing every little detail to try and find something that will make them look bad. People need to see the middle ground with opinion here. @ NerdsUnited47, I respect that you analyzed this situation and i believe you have some compelling points. That said, a gunship pilot in the hotseat does not have the luxury of zooming in, replaying, slowing down, and carefully studying the videos to make a carefully informed decision. This is not a shoot-or-be-shot situation, however if these men were indeed insurgents, the gunman's decision to fire could've saved lives down the road.

Also, there were points in this video where you failed to meet a standard of proof for your conjecture: for instance, there is no support to the asseriton that the gun operator "wanted to pull the trigger". given that they took many minutes to recieve the go-ahead on this engagement suggests to me that even if the questions were rhetorical, all the USAF personnell involved followed proper guidelines for engagement.

Why are we to except this guys interpretation of the facts over the men who were eyewitness? These men are highly trained in the I.D. of weapons and experienced in the observation of insergents. His lack of refernces such as plowing after dark and the common use of the luminary divice further weakens his attempt to explain the "farmers" actions.

A question he should answer is this, with all of the threats out there to thort the mission of the U.S., why would they waste their time shooting unarmed farmers that pose no threat whatsoever? If farming at night was a common practice. They would know that, and not be concerned about their actions.

This video was not thunderf00ts finest hour. He spent hours and hours defending it. Must have been hundreds of posts. Each time somebody showed a logical flaw in his thinking, he simply ignored it and came up with an illogical or simplistic explanation. It was really quite pathetic and left a bad impression of him in my mind. Perhaps he has changed, but this poor video will always linger in his background.

your so anti american this video cant be taken seriously. Ive seen the 30 Minuit uncut version. They fired on a US patrol then were able to get away from the patrol. The tractor is not even theirs they ran into the civilians field and began to dump weapons in the field the reason they didnt fire on the apache is because it was hovering over a mile away
