This is a good lesson out there for those of you considering a pet turtle. Red Ear Sliders get to be around 10". So unless you are sure you will be able to give them at least a 100 gallon tank by then or have a personal outdoor pond do not get!
Musk and Map turtles will make a better pet for those that are looking for a smaller turtle.
@titanic98810 if you are going to release it, then please release it to a reptile rescue centre. Any animal bred and kept in captivity as pets will not know how to feed or protect itself in the wild. By releasing it into the wild you are only going to kill it. :(
not even 4 months old! I recently got 2 new born red ear sliders that are about 1 inch each in a 15 gallon. good thing that i already bought a 200 gallon tank of of craigslist for $50 =D
HELP!! Igot 7 RES. 1 is 4 inches, 4 turtles 2 inches, 2 turtles 1 inches! And they live in a 29 gallon tank and they fit(check my vid) and they seem to fit. In 2 years I'm upgradeing to a 125 gallon tank? Is that the right size for my future 1 adult, 4 juveniles.2 juveniles? Plz answer me or I should get 2?
It's always best to start out with a big tank. Even if your turtle only fits in the palm of your hand. They DO NOT grow to their environment like most shop owners will tell you. This is so you will keep coming back and buying a bigger tank while your turtle grows. Always start out big.
wow if any of you see my channel, you'll see a video of my 6 months old turtle and its not even 3 inches. i think its because it hasnt had exposure to uvb
This is why turtles are not a good "pet" for most people. I bought a 4 foot tank, $300 canister filter and the biggest turtle dock i could get. Now i just spent annother $425 on a 300 gallon (1136) liter pond and still have to buy a pond pump and make/buy annother filter for the pond.
wow, where do i start? you sound like a douche, talk like a douche and your turtles are way past crammed in that 10 gal, lol looks like u cant use a saw wirht shit either. lmao cut it again lazy, n you havent even got anything for them "we gotta rebuy all new stuff" all u got is heater n w/e filter some lil dock n lil hiding spot, put some thought into it man jeeze
i love my turtles, they get a 20 gallon tank with 4 filters XD, and they get a water and gravel change every weekend, 1 is about a year and a month and the other is about 3 months, do NOT over stock on turtles, it will cause thier death ~.~ and we all dont like that now do we
Dude seriously, my turtle is going on 5 months and hes under 3inches. WTF, I think I may have a midget turtle.....uhhmm sorry.... I meant little turtle. No offense to midgets of all species.
@jalbm222 That's completely normal. They usually reach 4 inches around a year to a year and a half and then grow about 1 inch per year until maturation, slowing as the years progress.
@Heatherandharry I have had my red eared sliders for ten years, and they are huge, like as big as a salad plate. My male is slightly smaller than my female. Umm, honestly, I would get the biggest tank possible that is in your price range. I started out with a ten gallon tank when I first got my turtles and I have had to upgrade four times in ten years, which has been quite expensive......
hello every1..i have questions,i have 2 red ear slider turtles and both of them are males they're about 3 yrs old..and recently i bought another 2 baby turtles..my question are,is it fine if i put them together in a tank??is it possible that the adults would "KILL" the baby's??or should i put them in the same tank if the baby's get little bigger??(please help me what should i do..)
Younger turtles tend to be more carnivorous. Try krill, chicken, shrimp, and worms. Also, try balancing their diet with lettuce and other leafy stuff!
can some 1 tell me what will happen if i dont have a heating lamp for my two baby red eared sliders i just have a heater no filter or light or a place 2 bask wat will happen and they are in a 10 gallon
one of my red eared sliders hase 1 red spot on is neck and 1 on his leg and a tiny one on his eye. its is alot less active plz help i realy love my turtles
well that means it like got hurt because when i bought my new one today and there was a one w/ a red spot on its neck and it actually was BLOOD and they said it got in a fight and hurt it self ur turtle might be inured and

you can't leave pets out in the wild. animals that have never lived in the wild will die a painful death outside by either starvation or predators. only stupid people will do that
which animal can eat a turtle ? a turtle has a strong shell and is able survive alone because it is omnivore and it can eat anything ! even a turtle is able to live during months without food !
Birds, dogs and large reptiles eats turtles. And not all lakes have turtles there naturally, introducing a environment to a new specie can be deadly for existing species. thought turtles are good to adapt, not all will know how to get food, most turtles have the luxury of being fed. A aquarium is NOT the same as a lake
@shatterstarbox as on as they are safe from predators (or thieves) and they have the required temperature it should be fine, but I would have taken them in for the night
I had a painted turtle and a RES. The RES was always at the bottom the painting turtle was always at the top. The painted turtle escaped and I never saw it again. But I still have the RES.
@shatterstarbox don't know about other turtles, but RES are insane good to climb. Mine scales a chicken fence 4 times their own length (nose to tail) with ease, so having something to cover the tank is wise, or have a good water line so the turtles can't climb out of it.
@KiwamuTheKappahealthy turtle should b just fine...OFcourseUneed to findAgood place/new home forAturtle... read ear slider is an invasive species inEurope.because they can adopt to a" new" place VERY EASY :) and ITis not an European turtle.I bought myself a read ear slider whenIwas17and for next 6y i really cared for him and i did everything to create good habitat for my pet... i seen many EXTREME dirty turtle tanks and when i had to move to US i decidedTOgiveMYturtleAfreedom.
LOL. They are older than 4 months old. I've had mine for three years. They eat a lot, they have a 100 gallon aquarium, and the largest is a slightly larger than those unless I'm viewing this wrong.

@NguyenEmpir3 Yes It is... Don't be surprised if you wake up and you see your turtle eating a fish or a fish is gone... I think feeding them insects, worms etc. will make it more rare, I think, I'm not too sure...
You sure you fed them 3 shrimps. Cause turtles from a quarter size dont grow 4 inches in less than 4 months like that. My turtle is like 3 inches and I bought him when we was a quarter and for me its been about a year and a half and I feed him 4 long pellets a day!
when i feed my turtles dried shrimp, they sometimes get stuck on their head. one of them tries to get it and they fight for a second or two then stops.
are the turtles male or female? is that the fully grown size for RES? please reply because i might be getting some for my birthday in 17 days and need to know about them. i am also looking on the internet to get information. thanks
We are now on our third tank for our Red Eared Slider and the on that we were on is fourty gallons. We spent about 300 dollars on her on the new tank rocks a new filter and a stand because the tank was so big.
I have 3 RES and they live in a pond. today i found one of them swimming around like a MAD FISH, totally stressed out!
So i had a close look and she had a big bee sting under her neck, it is now removed. she is six months old. think she will die?? is there anything i can do??
I like your video, I have had three res for about two months now and I need to get a bigger tank, what would be the appropriate size of tank to buy for three full grown turtles.
i'll keeep my turtles in their 50gal tank until they get bigger then my hand then ill buid a pond for them instead of beign a dummy buying a big as tank for a turtle
Oh, mine are bigger than my hand. But I think you shouldn't worry as long as she is eating and acting normal. Especially having her in such a huge tank she must be happy! I dont know how fast they grow. They usually grow fastest in the first and second year. :)
cool nice turtles but your voice kinda sounds gay thanx for the video post take care =)

You sure you fed them 3 shrimps. Cause turtles from a quarter size dont grow 4 inches in less than 4 months like that. My turtle is like 3 inches and I bought him when we was a quarter and for me its been about a year and a half and I feed him 4 long pellets a day!

its growth also depends on wether or not its a male or female...
females are much larger and males are smaller

I have a female.

Turtles can drown, so the cave thing is indeed a big worry. I would make the hole much much larger than the turtles or remove it from the enclosure.

when i feed my turtles dried shrimp, they sometimes get stuck on their head. one of them tries to get it and they fight for a second or two then stops.

how often do u feed them?
jbjy 3 years ago
3 shrimps per turtle. If you have pellets and they are babies, split them in half and give them 3 half-pellets
TalentBoy96 3 years ago

Nice video. However; I dont recommend releasing a pet turtle or any pet into the wild; it would be hard for them to adapt and hunt their food.

We are now on our third tank for our Red Eared Slider and the on that we were on is fourty gallons. We spent about 300 dollars on her on the new tank rocks a new filter and a stand because the tank was so big.

My turtle is full grown. I live in a community with a really big duck pond. Would it be happier if i let it go in there?
whizkid777 3 years ago
Your turtle might survive in the wild, but it will cause a disturbance in the ecosystem plus im pretty sure it's illegal

nice turtles!
I have 3 RES and they live in a pond. today i found one of them swimming around like a MAD FISH, totally stressed out!
So i had a close look and she had a big bee sting under her neck, it is now removed. she is six months old. think she will die?? is there anything i can do??
mitch1dt 3 years ago
I like your video, I have had three res for about two months now and I need to get a bigger tank, what would be the appropriate size of tank to buy for three full grown turtles.

dude 2 things you need gravel on the bottom and your water is too deep
and i have two turtles and i have a dock but they strugle to get on top of it
bearsbullssox 3 years ago
Red eared sliders love to swim they like deep water
gravel can be dangerous as they can eat it i also i have 2 red ear sliders
water is a bit deeper than that
they dont struggle at all
Matthimself21 3 years ago 4
Oh, mine are bigger than my hand. But I think you shouldn't worry as long as she is eating and acting normal. Especially having her in such a huge tank she must be happy! I dont know how fast they grow. They usually grow fastest in the first and second year. :)
