  • i couldn't believe my eyes when i found raptor for iphone in appstore, just had to buy it instantly! it it's an exact copy of the original PC version!!!

it's so much fun playing it with the touch controls... infinity blade, galaxy on fire 2 HD, rage HD and all the other games have to wait now, raptor owns them all!!!

currently beating outer regions on elite difficulty, almost too easy with touch controls! check it out, folks!

  • OH MY GOD!!! I am so nostalgic right now! I feel 5 years old again. God, I had so much fun with this game!

  • 6:40-6:50 that scene was burned into my mind since childhood.

You know what, scratch that. This game IS my childhood.

  • What a boss, callsign: Player (it's really a typo, he meant playa)

  • Holy crap, THIS GAME. Its sounds and music have been burnt into my mind since I was a kid. The very definition of the word 'classic'.

  • i had this game YEARS ago

my dads mate upgraded his pc and gave us his old computer, which at the time was still a new model, its just he was something of an enthusiast

the pc was loaded full of DOS games, street fighter, commander keen, jazz jackrabbit, lemmings, riptide etc

and among the games was this! i didnt play it at first because the title screen seemed scary, but i eventually did

i class myself as a hardcore pc gamer today, but looking back at this, i was hardcore by age 6!

  • Cool

  • I LOVE THIS GAME!!! I have tears in my eyes when im watching this video! 90's best time ever!

  • damn it i wanna play this now >.<, lucky i still have it installed :D.

  • You didn't turn on the Monkey Switches.

  • I remember playing this with my sister, we named the enemy ship with different names to recognise them better like: the dryers, the Rhinoceros, the scrabs, and so on. Ahhh Good Old Times :D

  • I'm playing this game on my iPhone right now(only $1.99)

  • Raptor Call of the Shadows 2010 Edition available on GOG for $5.99, just got mine, works in Windows 7, yeah!!!

  • @samukawoosh

If it's a GOG then no shit it works in win7...

  • I farmed those free missiles until I could afford a pulse cannon, and it was so satisfying killing shit with those after having to use a pea shooter for most of the game

  • I always remember about this game that if you used the mouse that u would get addional/faster strafing mobility and thus an easier experience :)

  • I JUST NOSTALGIA'D ALL OVER MYSELF

  • Sound Blaster 16 era!

  • @Marceltcm It sounds so real!

  • this game was called call of the shadows? I'll be damned

  • Havent played this game in about 12 years.... Found it on a CD today and started playing it... No modern flying game comes close to being as awesome as Raptor is!

  • @DerkaVideos never has a truer truth been spoken

  • OMFG, i've been trying to renember what this game was called, and i finally found out, I FREAKING LIVE THIS GAME!

  • i remember this came on 16 (!) 3.5" floppy disks. at that time that was a huge game.

  • @Fabsun Yep, but funny enough, the game was one of 50 shareware games bundled onto a single CD that I got for free with a CD-ROM drive back in the day. I never got to play the full game until now, of course, but it was my favorite next to Doom.

  • Ah, Harrold's Death Emporium...

  • All new for the 1994!

  • This game is on GoG game website. You can get it there.

  • you can buy this on the good old games site.

  • I have stopped playing space shooter genre after I was done with this one. No other game was same anymore; you could fly with mouse in Raptor, if you made it so in the settings. You can fly in any direction (as opposed to common eight) and not always at same preset speed. So much more precision. Why did the uploader not play like that?

  • And when you finally saved up and bought the twin laser and thought "Jesus, why was I wasting my credits on all those other weapons". awesome game.

  • Thank you APOGEE and MS-DOS for raising me! :D

  • Comment removed

  • My favorite weapon was the lazer. It was really hard to get though.

  • This game is the stuff. I remember playing this when I was like 5, it was my favourite game!

  • @thepsychiatrist2 :O i played this game when i was 6 to :O it was a demo of course.

  • Love the music.

  • I used tobe soo happy with the shareware version back in the 90's on my old 486 man i wish i could go back.. oh well at least i bought the full version just recently lol xD

  • if you miss it, its on PC, MacAppStore and iphone now

  • So who else used to have trouble on the ground boss or messed with the before level computer buttons and got the monkies of doom. XD

  • Holy shit, childhood memories came flooding back.

    ;___;

  • This game was sooooo much harder than Tyrian, but I still find tyrian a bit more fun. = /

  • Im going back to my parent's house and digging through the old trash in the basement, in hopes to find this game. If i don't, anyone know were can i get it from?

  • damn classic

    btw the player is terrible.

  • Aw yeah, I remember blitzing this whole game with the auto-targetting laser. Good times!

  • @thepsychiatrist2 Yea, you do get points, or money, as they're the same in the game, for shooting at the structures, but I think they're just mostly there to block your bullets so you can't shoot at the enemies.

  • FUCK I MISS THIS GAME !!

  • @MechPhantom Get it on GoG.com

  • @bimate18 thx man !! i will see you bro take care

  • @MechPhantom I don't...I have it on floppy hehe :D

  • @jonundead ahaha yea same haha cool

  • @MechPhantom well you can buy it at gog.com :)

  • @Rex1987 ill try thx . But i doubt they sell it alr hahaah ,coz its soo old. see u man

  • Descent game, but... the poorly designed weapons kind of a slain the gaming experience to a minimum. To be more specific the weapons are highly under balanced. At the point when you can afford to buy the biggest gun of the game, You'll notice that you've only done that to realise it's no use against the enemy flow in the latest waves of the game. Hell, I don't know if the game is even possible for anyone to beat at the hardest difficulty settings.

  • @speari Haha, the hardest settings is for people who play Shoot 'Em Ups a lot. If you think this is hard, you should check out Ikaruga . I've beaten this game on the hardest setting, but I had to get 5 shields and fill up all my health, in addition to getting 5 bombs to pass it. One thing to note, though, is that the laser weapons, Deathray and Twin Laser, can take out the enemies before they get onscreen, so even the laser enemies don't have a chance.

  • so THIS is what i remember playing when i was like 5!!! i kept thinking it was stellar 7 for some reason but I finally found it!!! i played this with a really old joystick

  • I loved that green bubbly thingy in the ocean after explosion

  • crashing into an on coming enemy....thats one way to destroy them lol.

  • @thepsychiatrist2 you were not the only one to have been doing that :)

  • I love the concept... but they really botched the shadows.... I mean, the look cool, but they are incorrect. They act as if there's a desk lamp right over the center of the screen that moves with the screen.

  • @staphinfection it has good gameplay value, though. It's the only way to predict when the enemies will come onscreen, and it would be a lot harder to play on the hardest setting if they didn't have the shadows.

  • I love this game ^^

  • THIS GAME. Is the greatest game ever made.

  • nostalgic !

this game i played when i was 4!

  • i remember playing this but i didnt know how to move the plane ( i was like 5ish) but i still beat the first levels with out moving

  • wow memories

  • Ah yeah, raptor... I loved the game but sucked at the later levels. Until I got semi-targetting machine gun it was hard as shit to manover. But yea, still love it.

  • OMG I REMEMBER THIS GAME D: IT WAS AWEOSME

  • This was my very first PC Game before I got Doom and Wolf3D(Yeah I know HOLY SHIT!) I remember playing this right after school when I was in the 1st Grade =D

I just got this and i'm playing it on my custom supercomputer and 50" LED TV

AND YES!!!! I ADMIT IT I AM CRYING!!!! ='(

  • I loved this game and its on the iphone now!

  • don't forget Tyrian 2000 !!!

  • oh my god, I loved this game, I only had the 1st level but nonstop shoooootinggggg

  • The game was actually republished again in 2010 with Vista and Win7 support :O

  • The game that got me into Shmups.

  • This brings back so many memories

  • I played this game WAY too much back in the days...

  • THIS GAME AND POKEMON FOR GAMEBOY MY FAV GAMES!!! 2ND GRADE 1999-2000 I PLAY EVERYDAY AFTER SKOOL!

  • Este juego era ARRECHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISIMO me encantaba un mundo DIOOOOOOOOOOOS que buenos tiiempos!

  • I remember each song of this game! I remember playing it when I was around 7 years old. I guess from Mountain King Studios I prefer Demonstar, but Raptor was also such a great game =D

  • once I get that missile, I restart the level just to sell it, repeat and you get early weapons!

  • @zymeth0628 Its more cost effective to spam that at level 6, because you get the dumbfire missiles very early on in the level

  • @ravagefox I do that too

  • My version of the game must be older, it has like 8-bit sound.

  • @MarkArandjus is it a floppy or disc, there were two releases. it also depends on you sound card's midi settings.

  • @BillyCauseyjr Honestly, I would give up the 8-bit FX for the world :D

  • This gamee is sooooo awesomee!! I used to play it when i was a little boy... 15 years agoo

  • @ThaDutcher there is a dos game emulator called dosbox. how to use instructions are given ,you have mount the game directory to a virtual drive using the dosbox console

  • when we had this our computer was too shit to play music so I never heard the sound track, and now I feel like I severely missed out :(

  • I'm 18 now. My favorite movie back then was Independance Day. After I watched that movie... it made me want to play this game for HOURS!!!!!! GOD I WISH THEY'D MAKE AN INDEPENDENCE DAY 2!! They could call it; "Independence Day 2: Raptor: Call of the Shadows"!!!!

  • Oh my god... The nostalgy, its overwhelming! Memories, nooo Im about to burst into tears ;__;

  • Great music, i think i still have this on my computer somewhere...

  • I liked how the music would play for a looong time before it looped back.

I played this way back when. and remember every sound effect, music note, but it was locked away until I heard the screw attack top ten.

    and here i am now...

thumbs up and favorited : )

  • omg thank you for sharing this.! it's an awesome memorie from my childhoold.. one of the best games. Thanks mate !

  • Best of all games :P

  • AUTO TRACK MINI GUN FTW

  • can any help me, I downloaded the windows version of this games, but how stupid the one built this windows version make it not have the background music available, I ccan change only the SFX music, while the background music is toooooo loud and i can't hear the bullets, it makes me feeled dizzy that I can't play it

  • I gave this game a go last week on elite, and it gets real heavy on that difficulty. However, more ships flying at you implies a higher point yield, and you could access powerful weapons faster than you typically would. I managed to get a laser turret as early as level 7 on Bravo, and I still find it difficult to cope with the challenge.

@arrogantwinter Play via DOSBox then. It's not really hard to set up, and it would allow you to play other DOS games with relatively the same configuration.

  • loooved this game

  • I played the hell out of this game when I was a kid. C:

  • My first and favorite old style shooting PC game of all time.

  • Press backspace whilst in the game and you'd get a laser. Press it alot and you can sell them the and get all the awesome stuff!

  • im better

  • Oh how i loved that music when your buying all the goodies -Srki

  • This is The coolest 2D game I have ever played!!!

  • I think i'll stick with tyrian. still looks cool tho.

  • Oh god the nostalgia...

  • i played this as a kid =) damn i should get this game again

  • lol play on veteran that is fun!

  • This and Demonstar man...

    Awesome games.

  • I used to play this every day. I was BOSS at this game!

  • Check out my video...

Made a metal arrangement from the game music :)

  • I remember my brother started this game and when he left me there alone I was scared of that blinking light in main menu lol. I was 3 years

  • Wow this brings back so many memories, i fuckin loved this game, dual lasers ftw

  • The trick to this game is to begin on training and buy the auto targeting machine gun when begining normal

  • :') oh those nice times I had the demo but I lost it does anybody know where can i down load this game, please I 'd really like to have it back. by the way is there a problem if I run it on a pentium 4?

  • old memories :D Loved this game.

  • I've played this game for years. And I still playing with dosbox sometimes when I boring. I love Raptor.

  • This is similar to axelay on the SNES.

I never really played DOS games back in the day.

  • @Dimitri0809 different, but they are both amazing

  • It looks good, I miss the 4th gen games.

The visuals today are still very eye catching.

    Good game.

  • This is one of the greatest top scroller shooters of all times.

It used to be that Amiga had all the good arcade shooters back in the day and there was an apparent lack of decent ones on the PC. Raptor changed all of that.

I run this on the dosbox for nostalgia ever so often.

  • fuckin right mate..this game was legend.

  • Greatest flight game with greates music of them all!!!

  • @DrsJacksonn loved it for the music, definitely.

  • what would hapen if that last zero roled over to $99999999 would you go back to

    $00000000?

    that woud suck.

  • I love this game for ever :-) ^^

  • Haha cool win 3,11 C: cd raptor .....enter ....

    (Raptor) Raptor

  • There was a funny exploit in this game. You grabbed the missiles on level 3, quit the level and you'd keep 'em. Then you could sell 'em for a nice price. You could dwo this until you get the Twin Laser... And the homing laser as rear weapon. And then you were freakin' invincible.

    ...And then it got boring.

  • LOL YES, I remember doing this when I played the demo when I was 8.

I remember not having access to the awesomest weapons because it was a demo, though. :(

  • You can always google "abandonware games" and "dosbox" for some insane nostalgic moments.

  • I've been playing this game ALL MY LIFE.

    It never gets boring!

  • TYRIAN AND RAIDEN ARE BETTER!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:(

Of course, that's not to say that this is bad. It's not. I played through the demo version several times when I was little, along with Overkill and Solar Winds and Kiloblaster and Highway Hunter. :D

  • omg! u loved this wen i was a kid... wow lookin at all these games makes me realise how many retro games i actually played

  • Anyone know where I can DL the full version of this for free?

  • u can buy it off 3d realms website for $7. 3d realms are the people who made the game. they made others like max payne, duke nukem, prey. u can pay with paypal. i have looked around at sites but i couldnt find it anywhere for free

  • oh man I miss this game so much

  • I was 4 or 5 when I first played this game and loved it. However I couldn't read and I certainty could not understand english so when the game said "choose difficulty" I thought it was character selection. Boy was that game hard! I didn't want to be the red-headed four eyes so of cause I chose the skeleton guy. Yeah, no wonder I never came past the second level.

  • I played this game before, But Dont remember it being an Apogee game. Maybe I got the Mountain Kings software version, which was for Windows Operating systems.

  • what's the most expensive thing anyone has bought for this game, in-game?
