I didn't think I was going to feel this insulted after watching this video. I could probably argue the stuff that I disagree with, but who wants that.
woah woah woah... I have one thing to say to this. BITCH PLEASE!! xD I kid, I pretty much hate people who read too. Even though I am guilty of every single thing that is bad about readers.
You're talking shit about people that read, yet you read? Doesn't make sense. Are you not a writer? How are you supposed to write when you don't even see the value in reading? You're probably not a good writer...but hey, I still like you anyway.
i like to read and know what i decide... i bought a breaking tablet and there is now unlimited ebooks (thanks PDF), and now its ruinning my life... but i love it... but my efficenci is very low... and about wanting to have the physical books i think its a thing related to try to look more interesting by having a ton of books, that would be like a fortress made of books.
@kotoko7 Then you should probably be figuring out a way to get electricity back to your powerless home before all your food goes bad and you starve to death
I have ADHD and I have to multitask to get anything done. And I do that sometimes by reading while I work. I finish a 300 page paperback in 4 hours. And I read textbooks, dictionaries, encyclopedias...I don't see how that makes me a moron. Because of the way my brain works reading a novel is the same as watching a movie. And yes, eBooks are the best thing since the printing press and I want me a Kindel.
Reading is fucking awesome. I don't look down on people who don't read, but I do look down upon those who bash reading.
I'm in high school, take 3 AP classes, have a job, have a social life, and still read all the time. And I'm not a pretentious asshole about the fact that I love books.
I am just so angry about everything you said in this video. I can't believe people actually feel this way about readers.
You were right Mitch...I hate you and hated this video.
I do want to say... I do love physical books (I have a first edition Little Women) but I also love my Kobo (an electronic reader). Both are amazing. I love my Kobo for traveling and the fact I have 140+ books on it and it weighs about the same as my iPhone. But at the same time if I REALLY like a book I want a hard copy of it.
If you have time to work, go to school, have an acceptably social life, AND read all the time you aren't doing something right. I'm sorry, but you aren't. I LOVE to read. I'm an English major focusing in literature for Christ sake, but I can't read during the semester. I just don't have time because I'm so busy doing my homework, or talking to real people, or whatever else.
Going back to the video, I think ebooks are great, but I still want an original copy to put in my little library.
Oh the irony, Mitch, but you're proving your point in an excellent matter! The comments of those who read, backs up all your statements, but you're also (in?)actively doing it yourself. I can't even describe how brilliant this is, it's almost a work of art! love it, Mitch!
Finding time to read is actually quite challenging when going to college full time and working part time. I've had a book sitting on my night stand for almost a month now and its hard to find time to read which sucks, I like to read.
And omg! I completely agree about eBooks especially if they become available for college books because just this past semester I spent probably almost $600 dollars on books from the college itself. Not to mention how heavy those books can be.
I tried to read one of the Twilight books it actually took me 5 months to get half way though it because it was THAT bad. In the end I just gave up, I still haven't finished it.
this entire video is against me. but im okay with it(: people who read are irrational because they read things that ARE irrational. so i guess i'm irrational
i love how they don't realize, fictional books its one small step above sitting on your ass in front of the TV. pull your head from your fucking arse, your are not french bloody aristocrats because you read war horse before it was a movie
I don't think that you hate people who read so much as you hate elitist assholes who always have to think they're better than everyone else. And those people are assholes all the time, with or without books, and a generally deserving of disdain.
Personally, I'm half-half. A lot of the reading I do are PDFs because I just don't feel like spending money on a book. On the other hand, I have breaks in between classes and don't mind going to the local bookstore to just sit there and read for hours at a time. There's always the whole argument that all we're doing is making ourselves stare at a screen 24/7 though so it could go both ways, really.
God, I hope Presidents aren't sworn in on iPhones/Pads/whatever. Fuck apple. That shit sucks. Use something that people who aren't mindless consumerists use (no offense anyone who's ever purchased anything from Apple, but there is nothing good about those products that you just paid disgusting amounts of money to use. Nothing at all). Or, make your own line of GI E-readers and use that instead. Yeah.
Oh, and Mitch: How long did it take you to read A Game of Thrones? Love to know.
I get really angry when I read book I don't end up liking or if the ending is shitty >.< and hahahaha wooooowww you are generalising A LOT. I don't look down on anyone for anything I just think they're missing out sometimes because I'm like ammgg isss soooo good but I understand I mean even I don't read AS MUCH as I used to and for some people they're really slow at reading and it'd suck. I also like paper books better, it's nice to do something unrelated to my computer in my life
completely disagree with every single thing you said in this video. I work full time (i'm a nurse), I go to school full time and I constantly read for leisure and I fucking love it. bitch.
I hate people who make videos expressing their thoughts. Like fuck them who has the right to make a video and put it up on the internet expressing what they think. Those fucking assholes should go and get their fucking asses back into the car. I hate how they always think they are so important and take up like 5 minutes of my day talking to be about shit like reading.
I completely agree about the ebooks. Also those copies of books you can find on the internet in PDF? I can convert them and put them on my Kindle. Bam.
I hate the people who are elitist about the fact that they only want to read real books because they basically want to make love to the book while they read it. It's fine if you have a preference one way or the other, just shut the fuck up about it. It is not a pressing issue and no one cares whether the smell of the pages makes you jizz or not.
i also competely understand your point about ebooks, and i have nothing against them, but i would much rather have a physical copy. if i lose it, its cheaper, and i also have a tendency to throw my books at the wall when someone dies. i think that would hurt a kindle.
i like reading... but i also really like movies. the only book that i believe was inarguably better than the movie was twilight. true, by the end of the series i wanted all of the characters to be murdered, but at least it wasn't complete and utter shit like the movies.
@WiiGamerof1995 Yeah but if you read more then 10 books a year (i read about 4 a month) you are spending enough money to by the ereader in a year.
Not to mention, if you are only interested in reading you can get a cheapy ereader that cost only about 75 bucks. So in the end your getting a lot of savings which even if you lose the ereader once a year, your still ahead financially.
Hah. I love to read. However, I don't think liking to read makes me a douche bag. It may not be considered productive, but with that line of thinking, no one should spend much time on the internet, video games, or artsy stuff either. Just because you're not using all of your time to benefit others does not make you a crappy human being. Focusing on being productive all the time is unhealthy. I'm also not against E-readers, but I do personally enjoy murdering trees. Good.
@MorganPaigeLoves I mean I like reading too. And spend time on the internet. And sometimes play video games. And sometimes participate in artsy stuff. This is me just talkin some sheeeiiit
I'm sorry I'm one of those people that needs the book in their hands... I'm seriously paranoid about nuclear war or the sun wiping out everything electronic, and then there being no physical record of, well, anything, Lol. Though, with nuclear war, I imagine that idea can be applied to EVERYTHING.
It takes me about twenty two hours to read the average 500 600 books, so it really doesn't take a whole lot of time if you read alot and are really determined. But I agree, reading a bad book no matter how long it took to read is such a bitch.
Okay...this video made me feel kinda bad about myself. As a reader, I really hope that isn't how others see me. I don't think I'm a pseudo intellectual because I read and, though I know it is an unproductive time wasting activity, so are many other enjoyable things. I am a speed reader, however, so maybe that's why I don't find it as much of a time sinkhole.
I like reading. But I actually really like to read ''real'' books. I tried reading something on my iphone once, but I simply couldn't get used to it. I don't know, I guess I am used to it.
three weeks to read a book? takes me a week at most
I adore reading. I do it in my spare time and also get A's and I know random useless shit like you do, the only difference is that I'm not a douche about it.
I own a lot of paper books but I think I've bought one since I got a kindle.
I kinda miss the holding a book in my hands but just because it feel off, I mean, sixteen years of reading daily and then switching. It's kind of just muscle memory that makes it weird, not the smell or anything
And I love reading and have an actual work, social, and sports life. Just break up the book reading into 50 page incriments at a time. I go to Barnes and Nobles and read atleast 50 pages of a book twice a week,Doing that I'll finish a book in liek a month tops.
Arg, this totally made me realise, as soon as someone says "yeaaah, but it's not as good as the book" I want to punch them, and yet whenever anyone mentions Battle Royale i'm like OMG READ THE MANGA NOOB THE FILM DOES IT NO JUSTICEEEEEE!!!1"ONE!!
I love movies more than books, unless they completely fuck everything up from the book. I hate the people who get angry over them messing up a few minor details.
I enjoy reading, but only in, like, a 15 minutes in bed kinda way. However, i dont hate people who do read alot. And i dont really see your line of thinking. From what i can gather, you're saying that they should be doing something productive instead? Well i dont really see your anger, because just cause someone reads in freetime instead of, say, playing skyrim, doesn't mean they don't do productive things with most of the rest of their time.
@PCGamer688 Then you obviously didn't pay attention to anything I said in the video. I even singled myself as someone who reads in my spare time. It's an activity that people do everyday for hours and detracts from any productivity whatsoever. Also, this is a lot less "I'm legitimately bothered by this" and a lot more "When you really think about it, this all kinda retarded isn't it" which is pretty much the basis for anything I do on the internet. Ever.
If I'm about 40 pages into a book and I don't like it, I end up just putting it down. I read about 40 pages pretty quickly so it's not that big of a waste.
I have e-books on my iPad but I don't like reading them there as much, 'cause I get distracted easily... and I don't look as smart carrying an iPad while I tend the crops than I do when carrying a book.
I prefer books to tablets.... but that's because tablets are expensive and I got a Nook and it sucks because the screen doesn't even light up and it's so dark.
I have a hard time deciding which is more impressive: having thousands books on an iPad that you can carry around with you all the time, or having shelves upon shelves of books in a personal library. Either way, I shall weep when books become hard to come by.
@SleazeyI I think they do it randomly, but those two were actually given to me by people, I've just heard they put em in orders every once and awhile too
There's a guy in one of my classes that was bragging about being able to follow 7 different story lines at a time. There's a different guy in another class that is a "published author" who's "overly punctual" It's going to be a fun semester.
but books, in general, are way better than the movies

I don't think I'm a pseudo intellectual because I read and, though I know it is an unproductive time wasting activity, so are many other enjoyable things. I am a speed reader, however, so maybe that's why I don't find it as much of a time sinkhole.

I was just at Barnes and Noble like an hour ago buying my yet-to-be-born cousin "Green Eggs and Ham." The smugness in the air almost gagged me.

Fuck the religious texts, in a few decades I want the president to be sworn in on a jpeg of Richard Dawkins' ball sack.

I use to hate reading until I found out about John Green.

I like reading. But I actually really like to read ''real'' books. I tried reading something on my iphone once, but I simply couldn't get used to it. I don't know, I guess I am used to it.

The Qur'an is already on the iPhone. You can scratch that off the bucket list

@heavendude101 Can you get it on toilet paper? I'm sure I read that some where.

three weeks to read a book? takes me a week at most
I adore reading.
KCfakesmiles 1 month ago
@KCfakesmiles It was the same for me. I'd be sitting there, and then the thought of "I should be doing something more than this thumb twitch".
Kind of the same when I get into an Automatic car. I drive Manual so much. You're right, it's just complete habit.

And I love reading and have an actual work, social, and sports life. Just break up the book reading into 50 page incriments at a time. I go to Barnes and Nobles and read atleast 50 pages of a book twice a week,Doing that I'll finish a book in liek a month tops.

I disagree...everyone reads....we're the Harry Potter generation.

PCGamer688 1 month ago
@PCGamer688 Then you obviously didn't pay attention to anything I said in the video. I even singled myself as someone who reads in my spare time. It's an activity that people do everyday for hours and detracts from any productivity whatsoever. Also, this is a lot less "I'm legitimately bothered by this" and a lot more "When you really think about it, this all kinda retarded isn't it" which is pretty much the basis for anything I do on the internet. Ever.

I don't read fiction, I only read non-fiction. And the books that aren't free online I torrent. Though I do own a lot of real, paper books.

Once there's a library on Tablets, like a book rental service, then sure, I'll get them. But until then, hell no.

There's a guy in one of my classes that was bragging about being able to follow 7 different story lines at a time. There's a different guy in another class that is a "published author" who's "overly punctual" It's going to be a fun semester.
