  • gobshite.

  • yes it seems like yesterday

  • Today, the likes of Doctor Who are classed as adult drama on the BBC. Wasn't always like that.

  • Watch this day Thatcher dies and spit on the vile bitch's grave

  • this bit always has me in bits...superb acting

  • How could Peter Kerrigan have died in 1977 when this was filmed in 1981?

  • This particular scene is just too painful.

  • Best mini-series ever!

And as relevant today as it was back then.

  • @JONNOG88 definately coming. God help us.

  • best thing ever on tele

  • can anyone tell me if peter kerrigan is still alive.if not when did he pass away

  • @jezcat22 He died in 1977.

  • I knew Peter (George) he was a wonderful man.

  • Alan Bleasdale should be knighted & Willy Russell genius writers !

  • Brilliant.

  • this had me in bits reminds be of my old grandad

  • This series was a real shock to the system when it started. The Black Stuff was a one-off BBC comedy play where the lads got turned over by a bunch of do-as-you-likeys when they were out tarmacing driveways. Yosser is just about to kill them all when his van runs out of squirt. That's how it ended. Anyone expecting more light hearted humour soon learned otherwise . It got the mood of the country spot on during Thatcher's reign of terror.

The original BBC play seems to have been lost

  • to think they were going to pull the albert dock down

  • Awesome program and so true to life just like now!!!

  • Very powerful performances and such realism, the 80s was a very bleak decade, was cold and everything seemed to be dying, Jobs were very hard to find, even after these problems of the last year it was nothing to the 80s, I left school had to go on a YTS £15.00 a week, schooling was terrible no proper trained teachers left with nothing. This show brings those bleak times back to me. Things are hard now but not like back then. Great post.

  • @AlannTH

    Really??.

I was'nt alive in the early 80's. But I thaught that todays troubles are actually worse. Because now, unlike the early 80's. Entire coutries are effectively bankrupt, like Rep of Ireland, Greece, Portugal and Spain. But still great post thanks for the info.

  • @JONNOG88 Is different now back in the 80s everywere you looked was derelict. Its hard to explain but I know today we have a lot of unemployed and finance troubles but back then was a time of great trouble, miners were getting layed off we had a terrible Thatcher government, I got a terrible job I hated had to work sometimes 50+ hours a week for a pittance. Perhaps im biased just seems better now. A show like this could only be made in the 80s.

  • @JONNOG88 In the 80's, countries like Portugal and Spain were still relatively poor.

  • We're heading back to the Thatcher days.

  • @johnaiton We are now, the current government is gonna make sure of that. They want to increase the gap between rich and poor and make life all about right wing cultural idealism, without considering peoples basic needs. A lot of people are going to suffer, recession or no recession.

  • i bet the bbc dont show this series again. nothings changed has it

  • Just watched this for the first time in years god it brings it all back i had forgotten just how bad it was then its just to raw and too close to the bone for me i was in tears watching this.

  • The greatest bit of British television drama ever. Untouchable.

  • @mijahan

    Exactly right.

  • samtranz youve got on your site michael jackson as one of your favourites. If he was alive today you wouldnt let him join your beloved BNP because of the colour of his skin. You are totally fucked up,ALLOW US ALL TO GET ON WITH ONE AND OTHER,KEEP YOUR VILE TO YOURSELF

  • BNP ? do you fuckers live in the real world. This had nothing to do with immigration,it was thatchers idea of the destruction of this country and creating bastards like you

  • loved the show when i waz 7, yosser was my hero, love george & chrisse, had a pint in the baltic last feb. wile over watchin EVERTON from Ireland. hope george. pints on the bar

  • I believe "george" is the real grandfather of Justine Kerrigan , remember her as "Tracy corkill" in brookside .....

  • As relevant today as it was back then...

  • love this one

    look at the albert dock

  • SCOUSE POWER

  • don't be a knob son

  • Never forgot this from all those years ago. This was TV at its best and still takes some beating. From a Yorkie................. Thanks for posting.

  • tell ya wot rite most of the things filmed in liverpool where filmed round the dingle where bread was filmed in elswick street and 51st state that lads mum (cant remember his name) her house was in one of those streets near elswicj street

  • this scene from 'georges last ride' is possibly the most heartbreaking scene i have ever witnessed on film...i'm now a grown man and lived through the thatcher years in liverpool as a lad and could not see a future through all of the desparation and hardship. i remember watching it on tv and it was quite emotional then and it still brings a tear nearly 30 years on..the accompanying music score is brilliantly melancholic and the acting truly natural..bleasedales best ever scene in my opinion...

  • couldnt agree more with there mate

  • well said buddy

  • Can't agree more Tom. The "sheeple" are happy and zombified so long as they have their mass produced (opiets) of sport, soaps, celeb t.v. and films/computer games. Government knows this and so is keen to promote all of these things, while they get on with the important business of ruining Britain brick by brick. P.C rules the roost, hug a hoodie and soft touch murderers prison sentences don't seem to bother the sheeple.Don't become those people folks.Ever.

I uploades BB. last year It was pulled.

  • glad to read someone still has their eye on the ball Tom .. the opium(s) are currently useful to keep the sheep from complaining, in fact I dont know anyone now who would know how to

  • Thirty years after Thatcher said there was 'alternative' to destroying all the George Malones and what they stood for, the old working class communities have drugs, knife crime and hoodies. The 'new' middle class have been ruined and can't pay their mortgages. More people take antidepressants than any time in history. Culturally, dumbing down and celeb obession has replaced religion as the 'opium of the masses'. Britain's integrity is a joke after years asking 'how high?' when America said jump.

  • *no alternative*

  • How many Georges did/do we know ? Thanks Bungle44 for uploading. The day Thatcher dies i will celebrate !

  • i've just bought this dvd. god, is that the albert dock in 1982? before it all got revamped!!

  • Where did you buy the dvd, im in liverpool next weekend

  • bought it off ebay

  • download it for free buddy... its in HMV aswell

  • Could you please tell where I can watch more full episodes on line.

Or if possible could you upload more. Its a work of genius.

  • I have a few memorable scenes which I have yet to upload. Don't really know about uploading the whole lot due to copyright..

  • @cruzejobbers you can buy this on ebay or any dvd retailer quite cheaply now..:)
