How can i fix the non-system disk or disk error?

i have a dell inspiron 1545 and if i do a f12 at boot and click diagnosis it comes up with hard drive error 2000-0146 how do i fix it ????

The non-system disk error occurs when you have either: 1) A broken Hard Drive that needs replacing or 2) You have media in your computer that needs to be removed such as CDs, USB flash drives or additional hard drive.

just to let know you need to buy a windows disk aand install windows cause your computer has no os system

I have the exact same problem! I am willing to just reinstall windows 7 because it was on the hd but now apparently it's not. Were you able to fix this? Please let me know, I know how frustrating this is. Thanks

check your data cable their may be afalt in them...........

there is 2 reasons what's wrong with it.

1: there is a cd or floppy in the drive

2: the hard drive has nothing on it.

@rafire34 oh that what im going to have to do tomorrow cuz the only thing that will get me to the xp screen is the operating system for dell but it has a error when i get that far idk ill tell you when i get mine fixed to.

@yungballer92 it was fixed, i took it to a computer fix it type place nd installed a new system into it, WINDOWS 7..

@yungballer92 Don’t ask why but my hp laptop had the same problem I tried everything and then… connected an external cd rom through a usb to it inserted xp cd in to it and it worked!

yaaa i have the same problem, but when i try to install windows xp or windows 7, they both show that i have no hard drive to install it on, but i know there is because it was installing windows 7 not too long ago and then i got an error from the installation and apparently it screwed up my hard drive. please help!

i took it to a "Computer fix it" place or whatever there called nd the guys installed windows 7 on it so now im happier than what i wouldve gotten with XP. Windows 7 makes me drool...Next up is to afford a mac..*sigh*
