Well you can currently buy a brand new real Mini from the exclusive car coach-builders/Mini specialists Wood & Pickett. Their constructing 50 to the highest spec to celebrate the Minis birthday. But they've had to call them 'Margrave 50's' due to BMW copywrite (nothing stopping you putting a Mini badge on it afterwards though). Oh and they cost around 25 grand each.
They were great as a town car, not the type of thing for long motorway jaunts though. but having said that all mine were old '70s 1000cc models

if it was unprofitable then it would not have survived, especially for 40 years.
