Well everyone copied Norse Myth in order to make these games. I am sum what of a history buff and Elves, Dwarfs etc all come from myths from ancient days. Its also cool that some quests are actually somewhat based of actual quest the Gods and heros did in the myths. I'm pretty sure when they started making these games they had all kinds of history books out. So to sum it up everyone copies someone else not a big deal.

i think the books of J R Tolkein influenced most games like this, the norse religion was forgoten about and it was Tolkeins books that created the obsession of elves, dwarves, orcs, goblins

Its not forgotten because I'm taking a mythology class in College. People study it everyday even if you dont know. Tolken took Norse mythology mixed with welsh myths.
