wicked stuff man. I have been practicing beat matching and mixing for house parties with a hercules DJ console mk2. It has served me well for 3 years now, but im ready to learn how to scratch. I'm looking at tech 1200s and numark ttx's, but the vci300 is also interesting because of the convenience. Do you think the VCI 300 is a good place to start learning how to scratch and beat juggle? or should i just start learning on proper vinyl?
I started on turntables. I still own turntables. If you're hoping to make routines, I would use turntables, because you're not going to find battles that use the VCI 300 yet, except in maybe Japan. But yeah, if you watch enough youtube vids on this, you'll come to the conclusion that you can beat juggle and scratch on this thing.
you need to learn to skratch on turntables. period. once you get the hang of it, you could try skratchin on other gear but there isn't one skratch champion out there that has started on anything but turntables. the vci-300 is a nice nice nice travel companion that helps keep a skratch dj's fingers nimble so that you don't get rusty.
Hi m8 ive had every deck on the market technics 1200s are a good choice i have a pair now id also go for a vestax mixer i have a pmc o5 mk3 its perfect for scratching you can pick it all up on ebay cheap technics dmc mixer is a good cheap mixer also
yo so this will work on a pc right? do i need a specal version? i dont think so.. and i know my pc can handle it cause i buit that shit and its my hardcore gamin rig :) aha. all the vids are on laptops.. so i just want 2 make shure im good 4 the pc. untill i get a laptop. so i just need 2 know if its good 4 pc.. i need a dam controller!
Yo Manila, is the crossfader like a traditional x-fader that can develop static after so much use or do the x-fader being MIDI gets around this. Basically do you think the x-fader will wear out fast and is there a replacement part for it from Vestax? Gud vid mang...
Manilla... I need help here... What do you think about the output volume for the headphones on the vci-300. I keep hearing you can't bust the headphones loud enough.
At a loud club you wouldn't be able to bump the headphones loud enough to hear them clearly... I'm a skratch dj, but looking to light my travelings with this unit, since anyway at the clubs people want to listen to the music and not to dj battle tricks while mixing at the club.
I played a bit at a club with Donnie Dee here in San Antonio. I didn't really have any issues with the headphones, and honestly everything seemed right at home when I was playing. I would say give it a shot at your local store to test the unit out. 900 bucks is quite a bit of money during these economic times to just spend if you're not going to be happy with it. I will say that I'm very satisfied with this product and would use it anywhere given the chance.
It's basically like having a mixer and two turntables. It'll have a headphone monitor so you can cue in your mix or get the master mix over the headphones. If you want to output your sound, you go through RCA or through 1/4" cables, just like you would with every other mixer.
It retails for $899. When you think about it, no needles maintenence, slipmats, grounds and cables, and the mixer cables that you don't have to deal with.
Yeah, it's pretty dope. You can run your computer sound out through the unit, and also do live recordings of what you're playing right from the device in Serato Itch. No more having to hook up and rig recording devices to capture mixes or cuts.
The platter is a jog wheel. It has the feel of vinyl on the wheel itself. It also has a torque tensioner adjustment to let you customize the resistance of the jog wheel. Most of the time when cutting on a turntable you wouldn't care so much about the forward movement, but you would be able to tell the difference when pulling the record back. The Torque tensioner compensates for this. In the end, the platter feels comfortable.
Zup djmanilaice!!! Nice job. ??s for you. I just got the VCI-300. 1) I would like 2 know what your settings are for the usb latency. 2)What's your jogwheel tension to for the 'ahhh' scratch. Isit set to the loosest tension or tightest? 3) What EQ settings do you use to get that crisp sound you had. What are the EQ settings low/mid/high settings in terms of clock position? Are you using the original crossfader that came with the VCI-300 also? Thanks for you help.
1) USB latency if I remember correctly was default 512. For more fine adjustments put it to 256.
2) I put it in the middle. Not all the way loose, but not all the way tight. Basically I made it have the pull back tension like the 1200's would, which is what i'm used to.
3) Everything is default all at 12.
I haven't done any modifications. I don't know of a way you can since these are all midi controls, even the crossfader.
Thanks man!!!! I'm ready to jump in. I've been cop'n breakbeat/sample mp3's and such to begin my new VCI-300 journey. Hopefully, I can get up to your caliber one day. Right now, you and DeezNotes are the top gunners on the VCI-300!!! Thanks again for the feedback!!

Manila,
What version of Itch do you have installed? It's very laggy on my netbook :O
jinnai702 3 years ago
1.0.4. I'm don't have that problem for some reason.
djmanilaice 3 years ago
Here's what I found: it might be a bug in the 1.0.4 version.
I installed 1.0.3, and now ITCH works fine on my netbook! Crazy!

i'm not sure really. I think it's probably just a midi type deal. But, I haven't opened it to find out.
