D18 sounds like it'd be better for bluegrass lead or folky finger picking (john prine). J45 sounds like what i'd want for strumming or blues picking (lightnin hopkins). imho

Longer scale = Warmer (more bass, more harmonic, more sustain). Shorter scale = Brighter (more treble, more spark, less harmonic, less sustain)
