How To Read A Crochet Pattern #5 Amigurumi Giraffe

Love this video...however, I notice that when you complete a round you aren' verifying that you have the designated quantity of stitches (i.e....30, 24, etc). I was just working on a pattern and I found that I followed the directions as you explained them but if it said to repeat from the asterisk, say, 4 times, I wasn't fully back to my stitch marker. I guess I'm finding the crocheting in the round concept a bit disturbing. comment please?
