New Heavan, IN was a failure. @Aegius yes, Hitler had a good idea with regards to universal health care. However, you are implying in your question that I would think that this overrides his crimes against humanity. On the contrary, it does not override it. But you cannot deny the fact that universal health care is an ideal worth championing.

@jjooboo Who cares about efficiency!!! Anyway, even market based approaches are not totally efficient. Universal healthcare does exactly what it says on the tin, ensures that all people irrespective of wealth have access to healthcare free at the point of use.

Now for gov to engage in centralized planning & forced collectivism, that means large bureaucracies are necessary to implement and enforce them. TEA party people want gov. reduced drastically and that means bureaucracies cut down, which is the opposite of Mao. You make no sense in comparing Mao & TEA party

The famine in China pertained to Maoist policy of collectivization that had nothing to do w/the blockade. @Aegius cont.. Another way man can cause famine: Force people to not work or provide disincentives to work. That always happens w/collectivization. Brook Farm was a failure. New Heavan, IN was a failure. The early American colonial attempts at collectivization were failure & Mao's attempt at collectivization failed as people didn't have the incentives to work hard to produce food, so they didn't and there was a lack of food that caused the famine, not any naval blockade.

The 100 Flowers Campaign led to 300,000 dead. The collectivist engineered famine led to 39 million dead. Also when gov is reduced, that means less gov for everyone including the rich. When there is minimal gov, it enables small businesses to be opened up more and maximizes competition in antagonism to large businesses. That is antagonistic to the "rich." The TEA partiers responded in antagonism to both Dems & Repubs in expanding gov, taxes, et al too much.

The same happened to car companies as GM was dominant in the 1950's yet lost massive market share since then. Same applies to groceries, coffee(Starbucks losing its dominance.) and other industries. Cultural Revolution is an typically chinese political struggle that's full of secrets and deceptions. It was intended also as a tool to subdue big potatoes in the party that could potentially rival Mao's power and influence. It end up destroying the party as the sub groups in the party started battling each other.
