Great footage! Anyone else also spot what looks like a shooting star come from the top down to the left of the camera at around 00:20 into the video? Some bizarre stuff is happening lately!!

I hear you GiantCraziness, i saw these my self from about 22nd street and arizona, about 1.5miles from the beach front, they were extreamly big trails and definatly surprised the shit out of me, at first i thougth why the hell is the a firework in the sky, then realized it was something else, watching the videos of what happened do not show how big the actual trails were in comparison to the naked eye, thus the flairs on the golden knights vids are probably a lot bigger in real life.

@andrewdelliott , wew could go on all day about whywould someone do that, whya would someone jump off a cliff with a paractute on his bakc, why would someone jump off the stratasphire tower in las vegas, its what extreme sports people do, most the time they do these things they are not legal either thus oncreasing the risk and rush of doing it. Also dont forget these happened on two different days at the same time, makes it kinda look like a scheduled event right? LAX is too far to effect this.

I agree that it is a scheduled event, just don't think it is a jumper. I also agree that that the trails in the Golden Knights video are probably bigger to the naked eye, but I just can't get over the speed and the fact that we can't see a chute in any of the videos or photos. Anyhow, I will be out next Wednesday with hopes to see it again.

@GiantCraziness My first guess would be skydivers aswell. Ive done a parachute display with magnesium flares at night before and had them lit in freefall which makes for very long fast moving trails. Video on my channel if your interested in what it looks like from our point of view.

@goingtoeatpizza I saw your video and I also saw the fireballs 12/1. The fireballs were much larger than the flare in your vid. Do people use different sized flares or different types of flare devices for this? That could present some more possibilities. The flares in your video though are not what I saw 12/1.

@KimsFakeName yes there are different types of flares and all flares will react differently depending on how they are used. For example the one I did in freefall made for a long fast trail because of the speed but using the same flares under canopy may have a different effect and that effect is different again depending on the performance of the canopy and how it is flown. Its possible that they were using them under high performance canopies which wouldnt necessarily be visible over the flares.

Breaking news, everybody search for this video, 'U.S. Army Golden Knight's Parachute Demo Team night jump Cocoa Beach Pier 10-02-09' i think this is our answer, this proves that they can also use their parachutes while burning these magnesium flairs from their boots, i think i am ready to wrap up this UFO cars and call it a day, but then maybe we need to find out who and why would be doing this over santa monica.

Not buying it .... would have seen the chutes like you do in the other Golden Knight Videos. Second, the size relationships when you look at all the angles makes this quite large. Thirdly, why would anyone be parachuting in one of the highest plane traffic areas? Right in the middle of Santa Monica airport's approach and take off flight patterns, routine helicopter sunset tours, not to mention LAX flights coming and going - It is one of the busiest airspaces in LA. I just don't buy it...

@GiantCraziness I agree that a shoot would have been visible. I also saw these from the bike path dec 1 and they were BIG. After watching the Golden Knights vids and a couple other skydiving flare vids, its easy to see that their flares were much smaller than what I saw. I'm not convinced they were skydivers, but i'm still on the fence. I was CLOSE to them...i'm pretty sure I would have seen a human form or a shoot. These things were ROUND, and on fire.

@GiantCraziness Hey I'm doing a little analysis of this on my site ContrailScience. Can you verify if the time on your video device was correct. @phoojoeniam has photos that are from 17:25, verified, which makes your 17:22 time seem a bit off unless it started WAY higher

17:22 is the meta data off of the iphone it was shot on. I would guess that we missed the first 15 seconds of the show (we saw it appear) and the last 15 seconds because it fell out of sight. Our video is :45 seconds long. I would think that the iphone was pretty accurate, but some they do read different times for some reason. I would guess that the whole event lasted about 1 - 1:15 minutes. Guessing that there is a +- 1 min error between devices - I think we are in the ballpark.

It was an iphone, no zoom and the original file is shot portrait vs landscape. I am also intrigued by what KimsFakeName saw. If this isn't a prankster, and I am doubting that it is, I am starting to think that the backside of Catalina may shed some light on this. Strange stuff goes on in the ocean out there - conveniently on the backside where it is troublesome to get to. Talk to KimsFakeName about how he saw them - it may help you piece together your timeline.

@GiantCraziness I don't think Catalina has anything to do with it. These were over the beach in Santa Monica, based on the various view points.

maybe not, but I really like what you are putting together. It should shed light on the event. What do you think? Remote control plane? I fly all kinds of remote control planes. And recently in NYC there was a guy who built an RC plane mounted with a camera that he flew with video goggles (check youtube). Maybe something like this is an option.

RC plane is possible. Basically something with a flare. Maybe an aerofoil parachute. We might never know.
