Vasily zaitsev used a mosin nagant, but he also used the PTRS-41 anti tank rifle, to take out targets hiding behind sand bags and even brick and concrete walls. He had many incredible kills this way.
of course they had snow camo.in stalingrad soviet snipers, mine layers in particular used them. If this sniper dual had happened I'm sure they'd have paraded his belongings, uniform etc. but I dont think they did.
@Xanadis85 Incorrect both Soviet and German had special snow suits for winter, not only used by snipers but regular infantry - Last frame shows Vassili Zaitsev (far left) in Stalingrad 12 1942 - From the archives RGAFKD,photographer - Georgi Zelma
Who cares if u can't prove he shot konig. He still shot a lot of enemy. Plus, he still killed a German sniper, near the factory, and took his scope and maybe it wasn't konig, but maybe it was. Ge still deserves props, for the kill, if it was konig or not.
@nils4545 I do not have to be there to know the truth,Konings scope in the Moscow museum - multiple eyewitnesses,Konings daughter confronting Zaitsev post war,U.S. Captured docs with Konings name on them saying he was a sniper instructor near Berlin-Nice try
@SashaVedernikov Yes, and what you just said have nothing to with zaitsev killing konig, wich still is just a fairytail. Konig was real, zaitsev was real, the killing story was not. Get over it. Your trying to defend a story from an era in time were propoganda was at its largest. You need to think in realistic ways, look at google maps over stalingrad and youll se how large it is, and then imagen alot of soldiers in a ruined city. Zaitsev wasnt even the russian sniper with most kills.
@nils4545 No shit it was large,A German POW told Zaitsev Koning had been flown in just to kill Zaitsev,The POW also said Koning was operating in the Krasny Oktyabor Factory,This is how Zaitsev found the Nazi. Vassili killed him get over it! Konings scope is in the Moscow Armed Forces museum and Vassili seen Konings documents with his own eyes - he was there you were Not! As well Number of kills does not make a sniper the best,Its Not about how many you kill BUT WHO YOU KILL,Learn your facts
@Apichapsaroo I'll tell you something else God damn it,What gives you the right to Call these men pigs? I want an answer,They fought for their homeland - they fought for every inch, every brick! Asshole
Now it would be some funny shit if one sniper just to get the other scared didn't go out the wire for a few days. Zaitzev" damn this guys good he hasn't moved in five days"
well that would brake one of the most fundamental marksmans rules trained by the Wehrmacht 'Only shoot at what you can identify'
like i said, an experienced marksman would not shoot at anything that moves unless he knows what it is, and if it was a helmet or something i would be more open minded, but a glove? i dont think so
@Robaaaayy i dont think you have ever expierienced something like it mate if you did you would understand the extreme level of nervosety at the moment even for a sniper
well im just sceptical, wouldnt an experienced marksman who runs the Berlin sniper school of all people have a little composure and think 'why is that man waving at me?'
@Robaaaayy i bet he knew he had 1 sec or less to take him out i think he just saw something move and shot it not knowing what it really is he was stressd out i understand i would have done the same i was stationd in kosovo bolivia and libanon so please no offence but unless you fought a war you do not know what its like but it was still a good vid
yeah great video, but im still sceptical. I will never be completely convinced Koenig (or whatever variation it is) even existed without hard evidence :L
@eyederrick no the story in enemy at the gates is all hollywood bs.... major konig was just mentioned by zaitzev but theres no records of a man of his name in the german military records. According to zaitzev the battle was real but who knows.
thanks for the reply! true, i did not think of that. must be in the way the glove came to be seen by the german. because surely Zaitsev would have not made the glove stand-out too much. its important to me that i know all Russian snipers. i'am working on a report to find out if my gun has the most confermed kills of any gun today. any help, send it, along the way, i'am coming up with a very nice report about this gun as well. i will share when i'am done.
In a sniper duel a hand shot can be very effective,Koning figured that would put Zaitsev out of action as a sniper,an 8mm round from a mauser would tear half if not your whole hand off
Stop watching dumb movies. 7,92*57 is a correct name, 8*57 is civil name for same hunting round. The effect that you describe to some extent might happen with hollow point or expansion bullet that have lower BC and therefore not used. FMJ bullet typically used would deliver a lot less destruction. More than that EXPANSION of hollow point bullet with relatively high speed charge is neglectable at distances under 200m.
@Askar28 I dont watch "movies" Ive seen this damage from combat videos of the 2nd Chechen war - A 7.62x39 a even smaller round from an Ak47 ripping a Russian soldiers hand in half leaving half his hand dangling. if your going to make a point or correction can't ya keep it civil and stop the petty rage?
@johncub7172 I don't doubt Zaitsev was an efficiant sniper but in my opinion, this duel has too much Hollywood interjected in it. Snipers in WW1 were cautious not to just shhot at anything to give themselves away. I would think that the "Top German sniper from Berlin" would also know these obvious things and not shoot at a glove poking up over a pit.
Is there any information available listing how many high ranking German officers were sniped at Stalingrad? Is there any info listing the kills of high value targets such as spotters for mortar/artillery, or communications personnell?
vassili saitsev hero that changed the outcome of the batlle for stalingrad. He shoot 527 germans and this recod haven't been biten yet!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers to Vasili Zaitsev!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@davmul1980 Dont get me wrong Zaitsev is good sniper but, Zaitsev had 245 confirmed kills. Maybe more, but finnish Simo Häyhä got 505 confirmed kills and 800 uncorfirmed kills. So Häyhä has the record.
