IN the movie, The Greatest Show on Earth, she sings "Lovely Luanna Lady" and does a great job of it.....her singing preceeds the wonderful aerial ballet that the old Ringling Brothers circus was so famous for......it is such a great moment in cinematography....I think it is part six or part seven of the movie posted on youtube....
In the 1960's I saw Dorothy Lamour in Williamsport, PA in HELLO DOLLY and she was wonderful. She gave a show on the stage of the Capital Theatre as if she were opening the show on Broadway. I love her in THE FLEET'S IN. Thanks for this wonderful glimpse.
A wonderful singer though I think people just took that for granted, as they took her. She was so natural and so relaxed in front of the camera and in films the fact she was an outstanding actress and singer weren't noted. She was extremely popular in Hollywood because of her fresh, right there persona.
I have several 16mm films of Strictly GI. I wasn't familar with this radio program at all until I found those films at an estate sale. This is a great rendition of wonderful tune.
@Corrie121 it's funny how she has a cute tiny little speaking voice and is such a deep sultry contralto when singing! i just knew she would do this tune up right!
@twinoak170 Oh! Funny! The first time I ever heard this song, it was being sung by Alfalfa and I can't quite get that version to leave my brain. This song always reminds me of his little reedy voice!

Dorothy was one of a kind, I always enjoy the old "Road" series movies.
She was a knockout. Think of how many G.I.s had her as a pinup girl.

Not as good as Alfalfa.

Not true of course, but funny anyway.
On a more serious note, Brenda Lee's rendition is terrific. Vera Lynn's is nice too.

@weightfeather1 We're not alone, Alfalfa's rendition has over 148,000 views. Reedy voice is being kind, nails on a blackboard is more like it.
