• alright...now how do you you survive being a commuter student? :P

just playin. I'll transferring to Manhattan in the fall. Hope you're doin well.

  • why are u telling us this

  • is it still possible to party and slept in someone who's livin at dorm?

  • I like u...cuz u seem like a great young man!! Today's gay youth really make me smile..and u have beautiful brown eyes--bonus!! :-)

  • I just found this video randomly, it was actually in my "recomended for you" box haha. But I just wanted to say I'm so jealous you go to NYU haha. That is mt DREAM school. I'm a freshman in college right now and go to a comunity college, but I want to transfer to NYU in about a year or two. I doubt I'll get in though, I know it's a pretty tough school to get into but we'll see. haha.

  • Young man I travel 53 mile one way to school every day.I06 mile per day,and I work full time.Having said this I am old and you are young.Good luck.

  • good video i am going to collage in a few years so ya :)

  • how r u in college. You don't even look like ur old enough for high school.lolroflmao!

  • Comment removed

  • what are you majoring in?

  • hah! survived! >:D

  • just cant get over how cute you are. Plz come see me or at least write me.

  • hey! so i'm trying to write a paper for my world cultures class and i just discovered your videos. just wanted to say hi while i procrastinate more. i saw that hypnotist too during welcome week, it was amazing, and i definitely second your opinions on the reality show.

  • hey carl i just watched you pride video i have not watched your videos in a while i have been busy...im leaving this comment here so it will stand out...i think that that what you are seeing is how alot of people see it and its not right for it to happen like that...but its the mentality of alot of people but you just have to remember to keep your integrity and never just go with what you can get you seem like a greak persone and desrve anything less...and i wish you well...<3...

  • Hey, new subscriber here. Just watched a bunch of your videos, enjoyed them so far.

Glad to here your enjoying college and NYC! I'm born and raised in queens love the city! Taking a semester or two off before I start college though. What's your major?

  • Haha you're such a freshman! Don't worry it's good though. It is fun fun fun

  • I would date you, because I just like how you are, you seem so down to earth :) You must have people bow to you're feet looking like that ♥ :)

  • I commuted to NYU from far out in Queens throughout college. It was like 1 hour and 20 mins each way so spent nearly 3 hours a day just traveling. Subway and bus so I really was a survivor commuter student! Though, I really should've dormed at least freshman year. I think it would've made all the difference in my entire college experience.

    Good luck with classes!

  • i insist on knowing how big his hands are

  • Went to see a hypnotist, and forgot his name... bhaHAhahahaaa.

  • i'm a commuter student also. i live in the bay area and have to take BART (subway) to san francisco state. god, it's a almost a 2 hour commute! but hey, you meet interesting people when taking public transportation. haha

anyway, i'm happy you're enjoying nyu.

  • I drove from Palo Alto to SF State for college when BART was only an 'idea.'

  • so i don't really have the normal/common college experience. not really hanging out in any quads discussing contemporary socialism and giving my personal review of the lastest bon iver album, haha.

starbucks makes my commute all that much more enjoyable.

  • i moved to chicago from atlanta.

and the first year lived on campus.

but it's a state school and only about 10% of the students live on campus. and they all went home on weekends.

    leaving me alone to wander.

so i moved to the "brooklyn" of chicago; wicker park.

for year two. but i also work in an office full time too.

so class from 8-12 then work from 12-6.

  • Ye he's gay and your either chilidish or a homophobic sicko, his isn't a choice yours was - an you decided to become a homophobe that steps in the way of rights and equality

  • By the time you read this -

I am sure you have more friends that you can handle but i wanted to say I lived at home when in college and missed out a little on the dorm-life but got into Fraternity and would not have traded that for anything. The fraternity house added an 'on-campus' hang out

  • yeah... he is gay.

    it's a sexual preference.

    SO WHAT?

  • actually it isn't a preference, nobody choses to be gay, we are born gay... It is actually a sexual orientation

but anyway, thank you for the support

  • you're correct... i would know ;)

  • @c3016

I choose to date guys. I wasn't born gay, I just wasn't disciplined for dating girls!!

  • yea i am not a violent person but one someone fucks around with my friends or me dont get me started oy vay

  • yea i say take it easy if you have to quit school think about it and maybe next semester you have a lot of friends if you need help call on them including me if some one is giving you shit ill kick their head in ill will be driving about 3000 miles to do this but i fucken dont care

  • alex saw that your having problems just fucken chill dont worry about other for a while

  • Did you choose to commute for cost reasons? Do you have some relative with whom you stay in Brooklyn? The dorm does seem to be the safer choice.

  • i commute for 3 hours each way to head to university. it sucks. luckily i;m about a week away from getting my license.

  • im moving to Brooklyn NY at the end of the year,im so excited

  • i wish i would have gone to nyu, my parents picked a private school in texas with less then 1200 students total..... fml

  • Texas sucks so bad... I was born/raised in Texas, and I'm living here at the moment and I hate it.

I lived in the UK and the New York area for a little bit and just getting a taste of what I've been missing makes me want to move out right now.

  • Oh come on... : )

Texas is so big compared to other places and it has several major cities. Unless you've at least lived in each of the largest cities for a reasonable period of time it's a little unfair to call the whole state sucky. = (

  • When I was in college I too was a commuter. You don't make friends as quickly but not living on campus does have its advantages. Hope you're having fun!

  • i want to go to nyu so bad

  • I like you.

    Haha.

    I''m happy I'm not a commuter student.

I got a room mate and she's sooooo sweet. She does my laundry every other week. I love her.

  • I just started university as well, and I'm a commuter too ! It takes an hour and 30 minutes for me to commute and I hate it. Waking up at 5:30am just to get to class on time isn't fun.

  • 5*****

  • Yeah, that's more likely.

  • you are so gorgeous

  • He gives off nothing but good vibes. I didn't mean to imply he was evil. But he has the power, you know, if aliens take over his brain or something.

  • This kid is too hypnotic. He could take over the country and goose step us all to Mexico.

  • Holy crap! I typed that comment before he started talking about the hypnotist. This is spooky.

  • yesssss come back to nc

  • wonder how long his fingers are. yum yum

  • buy a car carl for your buddies and you so you can drive back down to nc or ski in vermont whatever if you had no car in huntington beach might as well forget it

  • Oh dude, its too dangerous to catch the train at night in New York...I wouldn't even catch the train in Melbourne at night, and its nothing compared to New York. Its just not worth the risk putting yourself in danger like that. Tokyo, yes, because they have such a small crime rate, and the trains are every minute. Please look after yourself, and am glad to watch your vids...college life is so much fun. Robbie.

  • dude, new york is NOTHING, try walking home from night school in LA, wearing $300 awesome boots and a cute (not slutty, but sexy =D ) outfit.

i lived in new york once. haha. i've been near-kidnapped way more times here.

  • U r looking well ... remember to keep up the smile and have fun even in classes :)

  • I missed out on dorm fun or moving into a dorm. Friends & Family that did....BEST choice of their life. I live in a suberb of the city and as awesome as NYC is....I'm glad I live just a bit outside. Live life but be careful. Please don't ride the trains alone after midnight.

  • Dude! Your riding the train back to bklyn by yourself at night?! At least dont take the JMZ or L.

  • Well, I completely understand what you mean about dorm life versus commuting. I have done both and I love the freedom on apartment life, but I felt like I was missing out on so much stuff, but I never would want to live in the dorms again. I love your videos, keep em' coming!

  • lets hear more about the skety stuff on the train??? lol

  • how long does it take? i commute only within Tokyo and it takes me 50 minutes....

  • The solution is simple. Go live in a dorm!

  • Sounds like NYC Fun ! ENJOY !

  • Nice update. I was born in Brooklyn and moved to North Carolina. I still go up to see relatives and friends.

  • I will set up my international commodity trading/mining business in NY business district, so see you there soon, you can help me may be, good luck in NY.

  • I live in queens and work in Nassau.

    I'm 48 and have been a driver since 20.

I gave up driving 6 months age,

    I LOVE commuting,

I've never experienced so much humanity before.

    Keep your eyes open.

  • Awesome vid Carl! I'm envious of your enormous step into this world. Such a change!! You'll go far in this life, and you have definetly been an inspiration for pursuing my own life goals. Peace!

  • I can understand I have to travel everyday into manhattan to school as well. But just be lucky it takes you less than and hour. It takes me 2 hours. Good luck in college.

  • I wanna go to a school in NYC, too.

    I'm definitely considering NYU!

  • yeah, it sucks that you have to travel everyday... a waste of time and boring...

maybe you can have a commuter buddy to travel with you everyday...

  • Awesome video Carl, good luck with Collage

  • your hott.

  • yeah....he's gay.

  • Comment removed

  • Soo.. what's that supposed to meannn. He's gay. So what?

  • Glad your having a great time.I wish you the best.=)

  • XD I dormed for my freshman year at Stevens in Hoboken, it was the best! Now i'm commuting from home which is a 50 min nj transit ride to Hoboken, I feel like i'm in high school again with the commute! But my scheduling is so tight with 24.5 credits =p. Luckily i have lots of on campus friends which is awesome from freshman year =)

  • It is interesting watching you from who you were to who you are becoming. College is an adjustment. Be ready.

  • I knew that you would be happier once you left college, or appear to be happier anyway. Getting freedom from everything is a really good experience. Good luck with your freshman year at NYU! I think that you'll be one of the best out there. Take care!

    ♥TofuBoy! :)

  • I'm glad that you are off to such a good start. And that's so cute that the girl adopted you for that dorm, haha.

  • ...your eyes melt my soul...

  • It's great that you're having so much fun! I hope you have a great freshman year at NYU!

  • this dude is going places! i just know that he will have a great life and a terrific future! :-) best wishes dude!!! :-)

  • Hey "Brent", thanks for the up dates, I really look forward to them and your activities in school. Sounds kind of hairy comming home so late on the train so late at night so hope you take precautions. Until next time...

  • Hey Carl, It sounds like you're having a good time before reality set in. But that's cool. Always be careful with your surroun dings. Hey man, You are looking very HOT! All the best go out to ya buddy.

    Josh

  • i actually love being a commuter student. last year i lived in the dorms, and i never really felt like i was going home. i was always reminded that im living on a college campus, with a complete stranger sleeping like 3 feet away from me. but now when i go to school on the bus, i actually feel like im going to school, and when i go home, i feel like im going home. so i love it :)

  • You're having a blast -- and you make me jealous! Enjoy the hell out of it, you'll make lost of friends in your classes and at lunch and activities... hey did that dorm adopt you cuz you're on the tube? I'm sure you have fans among those five thousand...

  • It's cool how down to earth you are... Lots of people that make videos only talk about certain things and really push people to subscribe, it's nice to hear someone just talk :)

  • It's wonderful that you had so much time to settle in before starting classes, and that the university apparently goes to great lengths to entertain you as you approach the academic year. That's not how it is everywhere.

You look happy. That's the most important thing. And aren't you glad you're not at UNC??

  • sounds amazing - enjoy your time in ny! it's such a cool place, i'm jealous :)

  • Wow its so different in Australia, its weird if you stay in dorms and basically everybody commutes. I always thought that NY had pretty bad trains but apparently melbourne is actually more dangerous, which I though was odd, given its size

  • i agree, commuting in your fresher year is not fantastic, but it will all even out through the year, at least i think it will.

  • huh, i know what u mean its getting up early and the gas i spend to go to school that hurt, but i love school..... have fun carl :D

  • I comute from milluake to chicago every moring... waking up at 4am... not fun

  • A Cool Dude That You Be.

  • Your so adorable dude. Youd make the perfect boyfriend

  • Sounds as if your enjoying your NY experience :D How Fantastic for you.

Hope your not traveling alone when you go home be careful out there NY like any Big city can be a wonderful experience but just be careful especially late hours.

Again glad your becoming a New Yorker everyday, brillant :D

  • How come your not staying in the dorm's?

  • Nice to see ya! Have a great Holiday & keep smiling!

  • <3 :)))))))))))))

  • 1. In Australia most people are commuter students, the only people who live on campus are the international students and the country kids. 2. 5,000 students is not that many incomparaasion to Australia. At my uni, im guessing their would be about 12,000 in my graduation class. Im not trying to insult you or anything. Im just showing you the difference.

  • Yeah, I also live in Australia and our university system works in a way where we are ALL commuter students. There were thousands upon thousands of students in my graduation class... I wish our system worked in a dorm-type system, I think it would be loads of fun.

  • Australia sucks balls in the University Campus Life department. Do you go to Uni in the city? I think I can put the commuter shit down to the Uni's being in the cities.

  • I live in Melbourne and my uni is actually in the suburbs-ish area (Clayton). But Melbourne is the kind-of city where everything is relatively close... so it's not all bad!

  • I live in Sydney and my campus is in the middle of an Industrial area. There is always trucks driving around and you never fell safe leaving the Uni grounds. Its mainly because there is this crow that sweeps at people and everyone is scared of it.

  • well try to make frend when you have at lest 2 frends youll make it

  • Okay - we all want to know... have you met a guy yet?!

  • heheheh honorary member of the floor. ^.^

it's so great to see you happy. happy. happy.

have an awesome time. and study hard.

    :))))))))

  • I'm in orientation now at my college, and while our events are fun, orientation sounds funner :D

But I'm living in a dorm, you should too - it's the kind of experience everyone should do at least once in their life.

  • I'm very happy that you're very happy.

    It makes me smile.

  • Commuter here! Sometimes can be stressful since my ride last an hour but it's a matter of getting used to. : )

  • i forgot, what are you majoring in?

  • i don't think most people declare a major in their freshman year, other than in specialty schools.

  • Que pasa carl you probably don't remember me but i asked you for ib advice thank you for helping me i'm in ib and i'm a FRESHIE!!! it's been awesome so far it's just hard not knowing many people at first but it's turning out to be a great decision thank you for your advice and i hope you have a great time at NYU

  • lol yay! hope you have fun. and psht once classes start you'll make a bajillion friends. who wouldnt like you?! :D :P

    why are you commuting anyway?

  • your so cute

  • weird question, do you know if there is an actor at NYU named Matt Savoca? he's a sophomore.

  • good post Hang on you are on the way

and you look like you are having fun.

Best to you and yours From Earl in Huntington Beach Ca.

  • i just transferred into a university also in cali and i cant wait for welcome week! now i know what to look forward to!

  • Carl, hypnosis is indeed real. Besides being a professional cartoonist, I'm also a certified hypnotist. If you do recall the name of the hypnotist you saw perform, mention it in a future video, by all means. Very best to you! -Briz

  • cool seems lke ur having a good time...i go to school in the bronx and take the train there too...im a commuter... but im used to it ..im a sophomore..freshman year is always a lil hard..good luck!!

  • Hi Carl,

i def recommend living on campus if possible..NYU is hard to meet friends being so large and diverse.

of course being you shouldnt be hard....just hang out and say HI :-)

at the same time..i used to live in Brooklyn and it is awesome.

well need anything hit me up anytime. i went to college in NYC, live there now for 15 years and wouldnt have it any other way.

    cheers

    Bill

    AIM is dtournyc

  • carl I love you bro, wish i was with you :o) and no Im not gonna stalk you.. you are way to hot for that lol....

  • Carl, thanks for posting this vid. It's great information for people, and it's still so fresh for you I'm sure it will help others.

Others have asked, but what made you decide to commute rather than stay in dorms? Space, finances, quieter place to study, ??? It would be interesting to hear your decision process.

Anyway, glad you love NYU and keep happy!

  • Just remember that your freshman year is literally the hardest. They will weed out over 50% (most colleges) in the first year. Do your best, meet lots of people in class and in the on-campus restaurants, etc.

  • Here's hoping you get properly .... 'er, welcomed :-)

  • Wow. You have a house over at Brooklyn?

  • i'll be commuting to nyu from brooklyn, too! welcome to brooklyn! i hope you love it! brooklyn is home for me, and hopefully u'll feel right at home here soon enough. as for the schlep to the city, it's my FAVORITE part of the day. been doing it since the 9th grade and it never gets old.

see you in school hopefully. (name's radmila by the way)

  • I'm glad that you are doing well and are coping. The welcome you had sounds like a modern day "Chariots of Fire" (film) welcome to Cambridge. I trust you can cope with the 'sketchy stuff' on the train. It's sometimes not easy to start a new venture. You have a personality that will soon find friends.

  • OMG my friend goes to NYU too. Classes start on the 8th, right?

  • I was a commuter student too- you will miss the parties the potheads and the drug divas otherwise nothing is different - work work work and tons of reading. But I enjoyed symphonic orchestras, operas and real jazz. And I graduated Summa cum laude.

  • "went to see a hypnotist. Don't remember his name."

    lol

  • Nice to see a dream coming true for you. Hope college continues to be enjoyable, even when it gets heavy.

  • How did you get your apartment? Do you have any roommates? Also, can you elaborate on the "sketchy stuff" that happens(ed) on the train back to Brooklyn?

  • Carl, I am glad you're having fun! Our college didn't do anything like lol =D Well having an Arts Festival but nothing to great =) Anyways have fun! You're a freakn' genius!

  • hypnotism is real. but what they can do with it is limited. one of the things they can do is mess up your mind. so please avoid it.

there were only 350 people in my college class. and the school spent the first 2 weeks trying to kill us. there was NO welcome week there!

  • hmm I'm not North-American, I live in Mexico. Could you tell me what does being a "freshman" mean?

And the "N.Y.U.", what is that?

  • when you're a freshman, you're in your first year of school (college, high school.. etc.) and N.Y.U. is New York University

  • dizzy, you beat me by 45 seconds. :)

  • Freshman is what students are called the first year of high school & the first year of college. Next are the sophmore, junior & senior years.

    NYU is New York University.

  • Any guys?

  • I went to uni at Southampton [in UK] but, for the 2nd year, commuted from Reading [some 50-odd miles]. It was tough sometimes when everyone would do stuff in the evening and I'd have to get the last train home, but generally it was okay and I soon got used to it. Carl: glad you are settling in at NY!

  • isn't it expensive to live in brooklyn . why not live in the dorms? :)

  • I wanna give you a hug. ::) can I? <3

  • Glad you're having fun at college.

Nice to hear that you're a commuter student!

I'm a senior in high school and most likely be a commuter student too next year.

  • Aw Carl you're too cute. I'm a commuter student to so I know how you feel. You'll get used to it after a while. I have train problems as well. Have fun in the city!

  • aww carl your so cute. college is fun for the first couple of weeks then finals come around & you wanna pull your hair out. but dont you that because i like your hair :]

  • hah i know ha!!. yeah its way more hard when u have some college classe at the same time as High skool.. yup!! thats hard and i just started high skool..... but wow Im glad to see and hear ur voise

    :)

  • nyu is my dream school

    =]

  • So glad to hear you're making some "connections" at NYU. Reading your tweets left me thinking you were a tad lonely, but it'll work out. Subway riders in the night hours are somewhat different. Cheers!

  • i have to say USA universities are much better than UK uni

  • soooo happy 4 u!!!!

  • What you'll have to do is find the right mix of things outside of classes to keep life interesting beyond just the curriculum. And beyond that bit of advice...I just wanted to say that your pic on your channel...the one in the tux with blue ruffeled shirt, is...well...really HOT!

  • goood luckkk in colllege! (:

  • I LOVE YOUUU xxx

  • Happy to hear that you like NYU! :) Good luck with your studies!

  • just wondering, why did you decide to be a commuter student? or did you not have a choice?

  • Gosh, you're so lucky! You're already starting to make friends! I've been at my college for 3 years now, and still don't have a close friend :(

  • Same here too.

  • im almost the same : ( but ill be entering my 2nd year.

  • ii only have a bit more to go before college

  • I love living in Brooklyn

  • ud make a cute ganguro with those eyes.

  • I don't remember if you said, but what will you study at NYU?

  • you have zach afron eyes

  • Great to hear that you're enjoying yourself! I must say that what you've said about high school echoes true. It's going by so fast for me. X.X

  • aren't most people commuter students at NYU?
