  • I'm so glad I owned this game as a kid.

This one really is good NES game, one that isn't too short and too hard to complete.

  • i wish i coulda been an 8bit composer.

  • @readifer

    you still can

  • Lol

  • Just finished an LP of this game and just had to fav this track. Love the game, but this music is the icing on the cake :D

  • i like it so much actuilly.

  • @Watercr3ss HAHAH yes, parents don't understand what we went through to finish these games!

  • one of the best games ever. Faxandu.

  • I have a copy of the game but no NES.

    ARGH!!!!

    Time breaks everything

  • One word: eBay.

  • thats a solid idea,

    thanks

  • emulator? you would pretty much be in the clear too, since you own the game, and emulators themselves are in no way illegal (only ROMs)

  • N.B. emulators that need a copy of the bios of the original system like PS1 are not illegal, but downloading the bios is!

  • Get one online or something.

  • Maybe the game itself did not invent the wheel anew and "masterpiece" is too big a word but Faxanadu certainly was a very good game with an outstanding soundtrack.

  • never played the game. Don't know how I ended up listening to classic NES music. Started off my YouTubing tonight looking for funnel web spiders and I ended up here. LOL!!

  • Sounds pretty much like a general visit to Wikipedia.

  • It's still one of my favorite games. As a child I loved the pictures in the instruction.

    (sorry for my bad english)

  • Epic!! great music!

In my opinion this is a song of BRAVERY!!

    80's 8-bit game masterpiece soundtrack!!

  • This theme and Shadowgate top my game music list.

  • I remember being captivated by Shadowgate as a kidzors.

  • Good old Miyamo Shant. I was and slightly am obsessed with this tune. There are some amazing chiptune versions of this that Axis tracked in 1999.

  • What's a mantra?

  • password system of faxanadu

  • That game always was a masterpiece. Best action/RPG ever made!

  • Someone's a little overly nostalgic. Twas fun, but FAR from a masterpiece.

  • Yes. I am a proud nostalgia addict. XD

  • Hey, more power to you. I'd be lying if I said nostalgia never overcomes me.

  • it was a masterpiece. like castlevania or zelda 2. only it's a little harder to get into nowadays

  • it was. if you don't think so, suck my masterpiece

  • mas·ter·piece (mās'tər-pēs')

    n. Something superlative of its kind

If you can give me five outstanding unique aspects of this game which make it stand out as a "masterpiece," maybe I'll be more inclined to believe that.

  • how bout i give you 5 seconds to shut the fuck up? lol sorry man, i just couldn't resist that

  • wikipedia: " Masterpiece (or chef d'œuvre) in modern usage refers to a creation that has been given much critical praise, especially one that is considered the greatest work of a person's career or to a work of outstanding creativity, skill or workmanship...."Nowadays it is used for an exceptionally good piece of creative work[2] or the best piece of work of a particular artist or craftsman[3]."

  • cont. I haven't seen any definition of "masterpiece" anywhere where it says it has to have "5 outstanding" or "unique" aspects to be claimed as a masterpiece.

The game wasn't completely groundbreaking, but it was a lot different from the other Xanadu/Dragon Slayer games. I think the graphics were a notch better than other games at the time.

The music was catchy and the gameplay created an atmosphere that I think is unmatched.

  • cont. Wikipedia: "Faxanadu employs a color palette that relies upon browns, greens, reds, and blues, creating an earthy atmosphere to complement the underlying, real-world legends of elves, dwarves, and the World Tree itself. This was somewhat atypical compared to other games from its era, as many showcased bright, cartoonish graphics and outlined sprites rather than the more flushed, slightly Gothic style of Faxanadu. "

  • ..."Many aspects of the game's setting, especially the different shapes and forms of enemies, are largely inspired by a mixture of Norse mythology and Japanese mythology with some derivatives of Eastern religion, with several reminiscent of the works of H. R. Giger." I'd say this make the game quite unique (at least for its time). So is it a masterpiece? YES!

  • I think it was a great game. The thing that bugs me is there is evidence that Hudson Soft may have released the game before the designers were finished. There are unused items and character portraits in the game's code and the odd placement of certain items and monsters seem to hint at this as well.

So who knows? Maybe this game could have been even better than it originally turned out.

Then again maybe the extra items were never really going to be used anyways. In any case it's a mystery.

  • T_T brings back memories of killing the Evil One! a giant eye on legs, just death spell it to well, err, death. Epic Gamme loved it XD

  • damn, this is getting me really nostalgic *sigh*

  • This game was my childhood.

  • I didn't know this game before , but i really love the music and now i really wanna play the game :P .
