@ChrisHoffmannTube hey Chris... at 3:23, that is a hand/foot pattern. It is fairly simple. It's just 16th note triplets (or sextuplets) phrased in groups of four. The groups of four are created by playing the triplets as Foot Foot Right Left. In that measure, the triplets start on beat 3... THEREFORE, the bar goes something like this:
1 . . . 2 . . . FFRL FFRL FFRL - crash! :) Hope this helps! Thanx for the comments and keep groovin'! :)
Do you think practising technique and playing the drums in gigs are two different things? Isn't it like this; you practise, you get improved, you combine what you have worked with what is in your head and create your own uniqueness. That affects your stage performance. You sounded like practising stick control, syncopations or any drum technique is about self satisfaction as a drummer and playing in gigs should be different(simpler?). Do you really think that? I would love if you can tell me more.
I love the way you're incorporating the crashes when playing those figures on the pre-chorus (& of 3, & of 4) as well as the ones you play toward the end of choruses...very musically significant, thanks for the inspiration!
Holy happening feel Nate! You sound great, you must be a Steve Jordan fan with that developed traditional backbeat of yours. Really clean sound as well as directing and conveying a lot of energy to the band. Respect.
I just gotta ask you, do you have any tips making a living playing music? How to think, how to treat other musicians, practice etc :) I'm right now deciding whether I should apply for a college of music or just play in my spare time. When I see you and several others play (drumcam) I feel so happy and just wonder... is it worth all the work behind it etc.
It'd be really nice with an answer from you. Keep up the good work, Nate!
I really enjoyed this video. My brother Josh keeps telling me how awesome you are - this video was really great. Hopefully I can see you perform live when I come to visit him in LA.
Man, I love how you enjoy yourself playing drums, you´re a inspiration to never stop enjoying this beautiful instrument and remember that the music is the most important
Just love watching Nate play, dosn't matter what kit he's playing or the song, the way he just flows around the drum kit is just remarkable and a joy to watch.
You are a monster drummer bro. The highlight of the Rockstar show was seeing you in action every week adding double kick parts to songs that never had more than a basic single kick part!! I loved it so much.
These days, I always get in trouble for throwing in double bass to our cover performances (but who cares what guitarists think right?). Keep up the good work, hopefully see ya in Australia one day again soon.
Your fingers splaying out is to reflect the awesomeness of your backbeat and the sound of the room!!!!! Great player, awesome job. Groove and all, chops and all....K
I know RIGHT! Who on EARTH gave me permission to play that grip!? LOL How about how my fingers splay out while waiting for the next back beat. WTF? hahaha
one of my favorite grooves in a worship song. period.

Whatever your level of technique, I believe the most important thing is to play for the song.
