Im not saying he wouldnt have done well if he started in his youth, but dont think just because he was good at basketball he would be a good boxer. In boxing you need to be tough. Some men think theyre tough, others may think theyre tough too, but its insane how much the ring demands of the will. Most people dont have it in them.

Muhammad Ali would beat Holmes in his prime. Ali wouldn't give it his best during sparring because he worked on his weakness. Ali would have given Tyson a surprised whupping. And so what if fighters like Norton gave Ali a hard time. Norton, who was past his prime, gave Holmes trouble as well. Norton was a good fighter. All great fighters have had hard times with other fighters. IT'S NOTHING NEW !

Wilt was a great athlete, but he would not have had the ring experience and ring savy to beat Muhammad who was just about to reach the peak of his talent and skills at the time. I don't think Ali would have KO'd Wilt, but Wilt would have definitely been battered for 15 rounds.

Beautiful! Classic! Ali at his best and Wilt the Stilt a tremendous giant of a man in heart and spirit. Honestly, I think Wilt was too nice of guy to beat Ali. Wilt never wanted to be the ogre, the bully, the guy you hate to see coming. Wilt wanted to be a ladies' man, popular guy, part Renaissance man. Wilt was a gym rat - and a great athlete in any regards - had all the physical advantages - but Muhammad has that "find a way to win" quality.
If you think about it Wilt had all that on Russell too - Russel (even more than Ali) had that "find a way to win" quality.

But it was boxing. Shaq needed to KO Oscar to win. He didn't and Oscar won because he's a professional fighter and outpointed him. I think if it was a street fight, Wilt would have taken it. Otherwise it'd go to Ali.

Wouldn't want to injure either of these guys, and while it's an occupational hazard for guys like Ali, Wilt's smooth finger roll might not have worked as well after a fight with the Greatest.
