Back in the Trans Am racing days in a few months prep time to take the 70 AAR and T/A racing they took the 340's and got around 436+hp from them with 303ci. The 340 was known back in the day but almost forgotten now a days by the Ford and GM generations. Take the time and money that GM/Ford has put into their aftermarket program and put it towards Mopar and I have no problem believing a 340 could get 1000+hp if it had a power adder.
I am a fan of the 340, so i'm not talking shit about the motor. BUT I have seen a number of vids on here claiming 500+ HP, but they never show the readout. I'm just saying I don't think an old school 340 is making 500+. Sorry, just sayin'.

@cudaneil1 years ago carrol shelby (he worked for mopar then) put a twin turbo 340 cid motor in a mercury pantera . it developed 1100 hp be for they crushed it . lets assume carrol Knew what he was doing.

IF THEY COULD GET 1000HP FROM A 340, WHY DIDNT THEY USE IT FOR DRAG REACING INSTEAD OF A HEMI MOTOR ? ITS NOT AS HEAVY FOR ONE THING, THATS WHY THEY USED IT FOR CIRCUIT RACING. I have been Drag racing GM's & Mopars since 67.And I own a 70 340 cuda with a few mild mods. This Cuda might be making 375@ the crank!
But I find it hard to believe its doing better
