Guys hold on a minute. The voice actor for the Utwig on SC3 was much damn better than on SC2. Number 2 all you really want to do is punch him in the face. This guy actually did a good jon for the voice acting.
For the record the name is called the " Ut-wig " not " Oot-wig " Get it right.
You're NUTS!! And holy shit...the PROGRAMMERS were the voice actors in SC II?! Holy shit...because I honestly thought that was some of the BEST voice acting I'd ever HEARD!
But, then again, I think the strength of the voices in SC II was not in their acting necessarily, but in their post-production. As in, the digital effects they added to the voices to make them sound un-human. I'm sorry, but hearing the Ur-Quan my first time...gave me chills. And don't tell me the Spathi or th
agreed... i remember installing my sound blaster pro on my 286 shortly after buying sc2and the sounds and music were so much better than the factory's... the ur-quans main gun went from a beep to sounding like a laser blast from he-man.. the music and sounds still make my hairs turn up...
Oh my f*cking god! I have NEVER spoken to a person who has said that the Ur-Quan plasma blast is a He-Man sound..because that is what I have thought for a bloody long time.
But yep...I have the .mods of the original SC2 music. It's great to listen to, and each tune suits the aliens bloody well.
Officially, the Yehat tune is the most popular.
I always like the Slylandro music though (gas bags - not the probes).
Music conveys excitement, mischief, but happiness too.
@uraniumdeath I agree! I firmly believe that StarCon2 is FAR better without the voices. The writing's strong enough on its own to convey personality without the frankly godawful voice acting. It blew my mind how bad they were.
I know you didn't want to insult me (calling me a dumbass is going close to it), but Legend Entertainment had nOTHING to do with Star Control II.
Accolade ruined Star Control II with stupid cost and time restraints. Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III did months of unpaid work just to let Star Control II resemble the game they wanted. The final product of SC2 is not in its ideal entirety.
I think you merely misinterpreted what I meant.
Ford and Reiche III had nothing to do with SC3 = why it sucks
Ugh. Their voice in SC2 made them whiny, not emo. It made them whiny, D&D prepubescent nerds and GOD I WANTED TO PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE. AND STAB OUT MY EARDRUMS. ARRRRRRRRGH.
I never thought so. I didn't play the game with voices until recently, and I always felt kind of bad for them. I liked them. D: I never thought of hating them or them being annoying, except they were just very depressed. Which is different than being whiny, I guess. I dunno.
The only thing I like about the SC2 Utwig voice is that they pronounce their species name as Oot-wig. I prefer Oot-wig to Utt-wig as the name of the species.
SC2 was amazing, but it's voice acting was VERY unprofessional, (it literally was just the programmers and their friends doing the voices) even if I do like a few of them, like the Kohr-Ah, Ilwrath and Thraddash. Those did a good job.
@Shavarnarak Ah yeah I can see that, myself I always went Utt-wig so it just matched up with my mental voice pretty well. I love SC2 to death but the voice acting was just... not good, haha.
@Delthryn Come on, that has GOT to be nostalgia talking. When I first played UQM a few weeks ago, the Utwig were one of the few races (along with the Orz and Dnyarri) that I just could not bring myself to confront with voices on.
@EdMan6623 I played it for the first time 2 weeks ago, and the Utwig were the only race that I skipped through the dialogue for. But honestly, I'd skip through all of this dialogue too because it just sounds so bland and monotone. At least the emo-ness of the original Utwigs amused me for about 3 sentences before it got incredibly grating.

Star Control II is best enjoyed without voices...as it was on the PC.
For me, what makes Star Control II the absolute best game I have ever played is the music...unbeatable. The Utwig tune also isn't bad.

SC3 on the other hand, well, this shouldn't be considered a SC game.

IMO, Star Control II is best enjoyed without voices.
THe voices are from the 3DO version ONLY.
Seeing that I played Star Control II when it was released, I just cannot change how I do things. I wont' play UQM.
I will only play Star Control II via DosBox.
