"Please, drop all the stuff you've heard. Martial arts is full of nonsense. Only believe what you have seen or can prove. Show me more than three real punches in a second and I will kiss your butt. ON film, Ali's jab took 7 frames to complete, and Sugar Ray's took 9 frames. A second of film takes 24 frames. Simple math guys. Three real punches per second and that is it. Less talk and more proof." - Joe Lewis when asked if Lee could hit 7 times/second
i agree. thai fighter have the best and most powerful kicks. taekwondo, and tang soo do don't have no power in their kicks, whats so ever. i you want to learn how to kick very hard, i would take muay thai.
American Boxing mixed with shitty round houses and sloppy side kicks. Suddenly ANY sanda/sanshou or muay thai fighter enters the ring, what happens? And this video show no better than amature muay thai let alone best in the world for karate. Ive seen karate, i have a black belt in kyokushin, ive done muay thai for 6 years, im only 21. And ive seen enough to know this is a load of shit. Sad performance from an overrated fighter.
@MartialValor Yeah and I bet you are a professional fighter and could beat this guy up if he was around today with one foot tied behind your back. Or maybe not
@MartialValor The point of this is he started Americans on kickboxing, which is why is his important in America. In the global scale he isn't very important, but he is the father of American kickboxing.
Joe Lewis was awesome. Back in 1990 he said "If I could I would return back to training wrestling because I think wrestling would be them all" after giving an account of his martial arts styles and teachers. Then along came jiu-jitsu and showed Joe Lewis was right. Now we have MMA the combination.
@mazilin2 it matters hugely what you train in,if machida only studied shotokan and never full contact sparred like 99% of shotokan schools in the world,he would win nothing.
who are you to say that? He was in his mid forties back then and still competing. The guy hes sparring with is also very good. anyone who knows fighting can see that
The exact same words came to my mind when i read that. Who are you to say that? Have you ever competed? Are you professional? Do you even have an amateur record? I really get annoyed at people who probably haven't fought a day in their lives criticizing fighters in general, let alone some of the best.
Yes, I believe Joe Lewis starred or was in some film or films. David Tanner has a striking resemblance to Joe Lewis not only in looks but in Mr.Tanner's athletic movements and ability.I learned from a credible source that Tanner was going to star as Joe Lewis in the Joe Lewis Story.Joe Lewis blew it because he thought no one would want to see a movie about him.
For anyone who thinks pro wrestling is fake, go check out pro wrestler Sakuraba defeating Royce Gracie. Sak is a Japanese Pro Wrestler who was trained by Billy Robinson in the submission style of Catch Wrestling. I challenge you to read about the history of Pro Wrestling...
Pro Wrestling must be real if the wrestlers are training and learning real holds the moves of course must have a benefit. it's called wrestling and it is a art of control and physical fitness stamina. I enjoy watching these tapes of Dustin Etan
Didnt this Joe Lewis Star in movies years ago? I cant find anything on here though
David Tanner is a dangerous striker. I witnessed Tanner knocking out Seth Petruzelli with a kick during a sparring session. Seth is the guy who knocked out Kimbo Slice.
oh c'mon how can you say that? Seth Petruzelly kills Kimbo and you state this guy kills Seth? So this guy must be the greatest fighter in the world then? yeah right!
Tanner is a world class fighter who has tested himself in the ring against championship fighters such as Larry ''Thunder Foot''Curaton and he competed in the underground fight clubs against street fighters. Seth is a young journeyman fighter who has great ability , but he was no match for the experienced David Tanner; I witnessed Tanner dropping Petruzelly.
Tanner has had great mentors. He had submission try outs with the UWFI, learning Pro wrestling Submission holds under the direction of ''the Great Billy Robinson.Tanner has studied the exotic arts of the Philippines and has been granted the rank of Mas Guru in the killing arts of the Philippines. Mr. Tanner's Boxing Coach is an old school master of the sweet science, a man known as ''Pep''. Tanner has won championships through out his life in Martial Arts, Boxing and Wrestling.

You can see that Joe Lewis is still fighting like a point fighter. His combos are lacking. Plus the camera man sucks.

You should try fighting him :)

Joe Lewis' kickboxing career was based on the JKD mixed martial arts theories that Bruce Lee developed in the 60s.

and now there is machida that brings up karate again and shows how elusiveness can beat wrestling.
does it really matter who is training in what?
mazilin2 2 years ago 2
Yes, because if you look up Lyoto Machida's biography, you'll see that he also studies among other things: Brazilian Jujitsu, Judo, and Muay Thai.
