Nobody ever said we didn't have enough regulators OR regulations. Certain KEY regulations were removed, and the executive branch staffed the regulatory agencies with people sworn not to regulate. Journalism in the United States is really becoming sub par and bias. Reporters should be reporting not using it as forum for agendas. CNN, MSNBC, FOX, NEW YORK TIMES....are all guilty of this. The media has been slamming us with the swine flu which has barley killed any people in the U.S. The big question is what is Michelle Obama wearing today? Most of the polls are held by research organizations like Gallup and Pew Research. The thing is that they only need several hundred to a couple thousand people polled to be able to predict with high certainty the proportion of the general public if their system of random selection is good. They often focus on registered voters on these types of polls also, so if you aren't registered you may not be in their selection pool.

I, along with millions of other Americans, am convinced that BO's ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE was issued in Kenya, where he was born. Odumbo could settle the issue easily by authorizing the state of Hawaii to release whatever docs they have, but he has chosen instead to spend a cool million dollars to fight the many legal challenges to his eligibility.

The mechanisms are complex, but idea is very simple, take in as much money as possible and screw the risks. The banks knew many of the loans that were made were false and that they were going to go bad but the banks just did'nt care, they were making record profits during the boom. Regulations were eased to permit run away profits but very little risk management was in place. Yes the Republican Congress has to take the blame as well as the banks, but i wonder would the Dems have done different??

I was a stockbroker on Wall Street from 1988-2000 and saw a great deal that went down. I'm also very knowledgble of the laws because I had a series24 license(supervisory) as well as a series8 (options). Not one pundit is talking about the changes in securites law in 2000-01 that permitted un-regulated securities that were SUPER risky to be bundled and sold with AAA rated securities and not called very risky? This was illegal in 98'-99'. Why were insurance companies acting like investment banks?

Nobody ever said we didn't have enough regulators OR regulations. Certain KEY regulations were removed, and the executive branch staffed the regulatory agencies with people sworn not to regulate. The CRA only applied to DEPOSITORY (thrift) banks, which made only 30% of the housing loans, only half of which were sub-prime. The rest were made by banks that A) were not subject to the CRA, and B) were not subject to fractional reserve rates set by the Fed, because they were exempt under GLBA and CFMA.

I didn't, it's an absurd proposition. But it's the only way your argument could make sense. If Fannie Mae was responsible for the mortgage crisis because it, as government enterprises, distorted the housing market, it must have taken an awfully long time for the distortion to show up, given that it's been in existence for 71 years without any problems.

1. How/why is than an example of a problem, and
2. As I said, the CRA only applies to thrift banks, which made only 30% of the housing loans, only half of which were sub prime. Changes in the CRA causing the number of sub-prime loans to go from 9 to 15% could hardly have caused the bubble.
