Tribes: Ascend is a joke compared to the original Tribes.

Maybe in a year it will be on the same quality level (lol no modding, lol pre-defined loadouts), but I doubt it.

Was skiing ever formally introduced in tribes 1? I reinstalled it a few weeks ago to dick around and I found I had to manually jump to ski. I've always been under the impression that it was patched to work as it does in tribes 2.

@omfgacceptmyname No, it wasn't. Tribes 1 skiing involved scripts. Check out TribesOne if you want some. One of the few remaining Tribes communities still around and has all the downloads you need to play for free.

@omfgacceptmyname no it wasn't. back in the day there were a bunch of ski pack addon things you could download though, so you basically held spacebar and it would auto jump over and over for you. Unless of course it happen way after the masses stopped playing it.

ah damn this brings me back, i used to play this a lot back when CS 1.3 was popular; in my cybercorp class we even set up an entire network of computers and got everyone in the class playing tribes for a week till we had to take the network down.

No you can't, the game takes place on a low gravity planet.

Takes place on numerous planets, each with it's own gravity setting. You think Raindance and Blood Bath are on the same planet? Nope.

Well yeah... kind of. There is slightly lower gravity than normal, but you also have jetpacks that let you direct yourself in flight and give you some basic lift.... its a mix of the jetpacks, low gravity, using slopes for "skiing", and propelling yourself with explosives

Well kind of. TRIBES 1, 2 and "Vengeance" (3) are already out. After that the franchise got swept under the rug, but some of the devs are in a new company now making a game that will act as the sort of unofficial successor to Tribes... its called Fallen Empire: Legions, its free to play and streams off the web. Google it.

Oh yeah, how could I forget... There's also TRIBES: Aerial Assault for the PlayStation 2. It's probably the awesomest game in existance, mainly because on the back of the box in huge letters it say's, "GOODBYE HALO" lol!
