Nope, some hedgehogs are bred captive. :)

The most common example is the African Pygmy hedgehog, as a pet.

Don't you think the hedgehog's wheels are WAY too small? I own a hedgehog myself and he has an XL wheel. Their spines and body structures are really delicate and small wheels like those (with the bars that can trap their feet) can be really harmful to them.

@MrSaber392 honestly, none of those are great choices for a 9 year old. The RES turtle lives very long, and requires a very large tank(100gallons), the bearded dragon also lives pretty long, requires a large tank, and lots of care and expensive(food), the opossum is the same, expensive, and requires much care. Perhaps for a 9 year old a hamster, fish tank, parakeet(if the family is ok with this decision, parakeets are inexpensive to keep and pretty easy to care for, but they do live 10+ years)

I have experience with ferrets and rats, so at least I know how to be around small animals, especially ones that don't have great vision. Luckily, they are legal on the Island (NY). Of course. P.S.- Do hedgehogs like bottles or water bowls?

@earthling1984 Yea. I had bad experiences with water bowls for small mammals. They always were moved around the cage and the water splashed all around and got the bedding all soaked and nasty. That's why I use bottles for both my rats and ferrets. So thanks for the info. :P I was just curious because I wasn't sure if hedgehogs were the type of animal that would accept a water bottle.

It looks as though you painstakingly take good care of all of your pets. I do have a question or two..How do you have a life outside of these animals? It seems like caring for these pets would take up all of your time. And why do you have all these animals? Is it good to have them in such small spaces, you have 3 snakes in a small plastic pull out drawer. Im not going to pretend to have knowledge of quality of life of snakes, just curious. Regardless, im amazed at your knowlege and care.

Tubs are also easier to clean, and wipe out easier(healthier for pet). And paying less for the cage, means I can spend more for bedding, food, treats, etc. It is smart... thanks for your comment...
