  • A couple songs of his that I liked were "Who Do You Think I am?" and "Mommy Please Stay Home With Me".

  • Without a doubt, the soul of Country Music.

  • One of the greatest country singers ever and I didn't hear of him passing until I looked up his music on U tube. Nashville is so busy promoting it's pop music that has no tune, heart or soul , sung by musicians that all sound pretty much the same that they couldn't pay tribute to one of the greats. I wish a true country music promoter would start a new venue in Wheeling or Bronson where country music has flowed in the past. It would make country music fans real happy. We could kiss Nashville BYE

  • There is a generation of country music fans not yet born who are going to recognize that country music history was more than Hank Williams and Lefty Frizell. When the memory of these others begins to fade. fans are going to ask who else and they will discover Carl Smith.

  • btooley10... I'm with you one hundred percent on that.

  • Carl Smith was one of my favorites until well into the mid 50's when the so called Nashville Sound began watering down Country Music. With very few exceptions it has never recovered, but I still listen to Bluegrass which has somehow managed to dodge the torpedoes and hold onto it's soul.

  • I wonder if all our old artists realized they were actually more 'doctors' then the ones in the medical field... They could cure more pain and suffering with their music then any doctor with all the pills on the market... I've paralleled most of these artists, age-wise, and even in 'our' older age they still have the 'touch', so I don't think 'any' of them 'really' die....

  • I love Carl and his daughter carlene carter. Did he have any more children ?

  • I saw this fantastic singer in Temple, TX in 1965. I also grew up on his music.

  • Great tribute to Carl. There She Goes is my favorite of his song. I dont know of any songs he did that I didnt like. Thanks.

  • @10ecboy

That's because the modern news media barely recognized him. What a shame!

  • Very nice tribute to a great star. Here in Toronto we remember the best Country and Western TV show ever > Carl Smith's Country Music Hall .

  • When carl passed the country radio stations didnt so much as mention his name. it makes me sick

  • @SpooksHill Do you think it's because the today's uptown trash playing DJ's didn't even know who he was. Sad, I agree

  • @idontdothatdou

That's exactly what happened. Sad-Sad-Sad state of affairs these days!

  • Sorry to hear about his passing. What memories

I have listening to his music. I've been a fan

since the 50's and have most of his music.

    R.I.P

  • Carl Smith was one of the first Great Artists to turn this New York City boy on to Country Music back in the early 50's.

    Thanks.

  • I went to the Williams Memorial Gardens funeral home this evening to pay my respects to an artist who has entertained me for 53 years. I met Sonny james in the parking lot. Once inside, I met his two sons. It was a touching event.

  • What a milestone! I just learned of his death by seeking his music posted here...His recordings are sure to remain among the most evocative and telling in all of country music.
