if the wick is black but still holds a good flame id just leave it alone. and to pull the wick out, youre right just take some pliers or tweezers and pull out a little ore wick and cut the black wick off. and no you dont have to remove all the cotton to get more wick out

hey man thanks for this, i bought an old lighter off a friend and it had no flint left and no fluid. Btw I havent gotten round to buying any fluid yet but my wick seems to have copper wire entwined with it, is this normal? quick hint, plase a couple of flints in between the cotton and the felt pad(dont worrie they wont fail), just in case you do waste your flint and you have no extras on you... speaking from experiance.

put in a piece of cotton, pulll the wick over it, stick in another piece of cotton, then pull the wick over to the opposite side and repeat. other than that i dunno how to further explain. hope that helped a little...sorry dude goot luck

lol nice dude. but ya dude if u want a bigger flame u can just pull out another 1/8 inch of wick. u got like 4 inches of wick in ur zippo from the factory. if the top of ur wick is still white and puffy, try moving the wick away from the flint striker and the flame should become a lil bigger. good luck dude

ya dude that copper thing isnt the flint...thats just the backstop to the flint...dont striker the flint wheel till you get it replaced cus ur flint wheel and backstop will get effed over. but ya flints are cheap so ya

if you have a local smoke, cigar shop you can usually get them there or wherre you buy zippos from. if nt you can order em online but the cost might be a bit more expensive.

flints are like 59 cents or something

just buy a disposable bic lighter, and pry the metal casing off, pop of the flint wheel and there should be a spring and the flint,

the flints you get from bics, are exactly the same size as zippos, but bics are a bit longer, so cut them in half , and there ya go, you have two new flints.

(i just bought a new zippo and had an old bic with no more fluid, and tried it myself, and yes it works.)
