  • the awkward moment when you don't know what a word from sesame street means

  • i was feeling abit stupid that I hadnt a clue what galoshes were, Irish and English people call them Wellingtons or Wellies

  • ....and I'm still gonna call'em rain boots :)

  • ,lllkkjh.,,,, mk,mmmllp

  • Rain boots? hahaha

  • ......wait....aren't those just rain boots?

Ps. Would have been better if they just poured water on Jennifer Garner

  • those arnt even galoshes those are Wellies, galoshes are rubber boots that fit over the shoe

  • @melgibsonsballs There's not a single American I know that calls them "wellies".

We usually stick to Rain boots. So you pronounce them your way and we pronounce them ours.

  • ijikioopiii

  • Galoshes in Russian... galoshes in a lot of other languages but I guess it's more of an archaic term...

  • @janistonbest

except the difference between wellies and galoshes it that Galoshes tends to refer to gumboots that you put OVER a pair of regular shoes so the water doesn't get in, whereas wellies you'd wear right on your foot. Galoshes are more of a waterproof sock for your shoes.

  • Wellie boots. What are they teaching kids these days....

  • Gumboots :D

  • sz/x ,.

  • you mean gumboots? im like 15 found out what they r now thanks to sesame st

  • haha, i always thought they were wellies?

  • those are some ugly "galoshes"

  • y do kids need to know what galoshes are? i dont even know what they were before this

  • a.k.a rain boots

  • i call them rubber boots.

  • I just call them rain boots

  • In England we call Galoshes by the name Wellington boots,

    Very interesting :)

    xxx

  • LMAO quite random

  • I always thought "galoshes" was a term used to specifically describe rubber boots that fit over the shoe, but lately I've heard it quite a bit from women roughly in their 50s or older, to describe wellies. Just yesterday in fact, I took my dog to the park in the rain, and one of my neighbors was there and asked me "where'd you get your galoshes?" in reference to my new yellow Hunter wellies.

  • Never heard of Galoshes ... :S We call them Wellies :P

  • Heeeey It ends at 1:35, I want to see wet Jennifer Garner!!!!!

  • grrr why does abby remind me so much of baby bop

  • Jennifer Garner is so byootiful

  • Never heard of galoshes before... is that an american term? we call those gumboots... interesting...

  • @daffy009 Hans Christian Anderson wrote a story called The Galoshes of Fortune, :) The spelling changed in 1920, but its not an American term.

  • cowboy boots are waterproof too

  • Or rainboots.

  • gum-boots?

  • @0d1a2n3n4y They're called Galoshes in Eagle-Land.

  • tnx !! jennifer now i know !!

  • u mean wellies?

  • Omg she is so pretty :x

  • galoshes? you mean rain boots?

  • wellieeeeeeeeeeeesssss

  • I don't know who books these ladies to guest on Sesame Street, but I hope he/she keeps their job for life.

  • I call them 'gumboots'

  • I didn't know that. Thanks Jennifer!

  • It's the name we have for our cheap rain boots that we import from China. You see, it's the sound they make when you walk in them while they are filled with water.

  • I think I'll keep calling them wellies... good to know, though =P

  • i thought the bird ws the word :D

  • Don't you guys recognize her from "ALIAS"??? She was Sydney Bristow!!!

  • I just call them rain boots.

  • SHe looks super pretty!

  • never heard of this word before! :o

  • we call them gumboots in Australia.

  • So American! xD wellies or wellington boots in England :)

  • Jennifer's head is incredible small

  • Her dimples are so adorable! My nephew has deep dimples and he is just so cute! :)

  • Oh, but it's not raining....

(then a bucket full of water falls down to her)

It would be a nice prank.

  • In the upper Midwest of the U.S. we call 'em rain boots and the second name would be galoshes.

  • That's are not galoshes!

Galoshes (from French: galoches), also known as boat shoes, dickersons, or overshoes, are a type of rubber boot that is slipped over shoes to keep them from getting muddy or wet.

  • "Gum boots" where I come from in Canada. :) My little girl loves watching "goshes."

  • In Australia, we just call them gum boots :).

  • Don't wanna burst your bubble there Jennifer Garner as you look excited with your rubberboots and muppet fairy, but those "Galoshes" look an awful lot like Wellingtons to me. Unless Galoshes helped win the battle of waterloo, hmmm, I'm not so sure anymore. I'm gonna watch somemore Sesame Street clips on good ole you tube in the hope they'll give me the answers I seek.

  • qaaa5rw3eiusdiuyy6tt4b u

  • @MrWhitneytraylor I can't believe you didn't know what galoshes were. :/

  • @LiquidoGimps actually some people call them diffrent things. I call them wellies. it doesnt really matter !

  • Wellies

  • whats the wod? THE BIRD IS WORD!

  • @Wilmar112 NO!! GREASE is the word! the word that u heard

    DON'T DENY IT!

  • nooooo...where's elmo?

  • Wellies

  • Funny, but in Russia we call it (that appeared in the end of vid) rubber boots, and galoshes are underpart of rubber boots which you can put on other footwear, but now noone wears galoshes in Russia)

  • @RitrTry In Canada we call them rubber boots too! :)

  • @90260 it used to be called that then they renamed it "suddenly 30" -_-" it sucked

  • @ashwolfxsmarbleprob i know right? i loved her in suddenly 30 :)

  • She's quite a stunning woman

  • now..they need an umbrella.

  • @pnoyguitar

lol rihanna gonna come and give them one xD

  • @pnoyguitar or at least a couple of nice rain slickers

  • galoshes- gumboots you treasure after a hard day yakka.

  • Ooo she's the one from 13 going on 30

  • Galoshes = Gumboots

  • How the hell did a douche bag like Ben Assfuck end up with an Angel like her? I'm gonna go take my bitterness and hang out with Oscar in his garbage can.

  • Never heard of galoshes before in my life. A definite Americanism.

  • @mrsnooch

maybe a synonym for people in the bronx

  • @mrsnooch That's odd, since it's a well known word. It is the same thing in Russian - 'galoshi'. This is no wonder since there are many French origin words in Russian and this is a French origin word used in many languages.

  • @mrsnooch actually the term dates back to the middle ages, the modern spelling that we have now for the word is post 1920s. The term pre 1920s was spelt in Great Britain as Goloshes. :) Not an Americanism.

  • @ForOblekusJournal Interesting! In saying that, I have 60 likes on that comment, so I guess a large portion are misinformed! learn something new everyday =]

  • @mrsnooch You should read Hans Christian Andersons story, The Galoshes of Fortune. Its one of his earliest works. Beautifully written also, and you can tell by reading it how much he had changed by his final stories.

  • wow, i'm 19 and i just found out what galoshes are.

  • @ShirEllie I don't think they mean what you think they do. Honestly 19 years olds these days.

  • @ShirEllie Try being 27 and feeling the same way.

  • @ShirEllie See!

May not be OUR era anymore, but Sesame Street still educates folks young and old tom this day!

  • @ShirEllie HAHA :)

  • @ShirEllie wow, you're 19 and you're watching this

  • I'm just happy to see one of these segments that ISN'T with Elmo. Nothing against the little guy, but I feel like he dominates a bit too much and other characters don't get as much attention anymore. I miss Ernie. :-(
