Okay, maybe this is a dumb question, but couldn't the citizens of Gideon ask the Federation to help them colonize another planet so they have more than one planet to live on, thus having more room to live? It seems like an awful waste to control the population by disease instead.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Perhaps another lesson of this episode is don't adopt universal health care! Let as many people as possible go without health care so they get very sick and die sooner rather than later. If liberals are so afraid of overpopulation than naturally they should be opposed to universal health care! LOL.
If you look carefully at the bottom right corner, you can see the coffee mug of producer Fred Steiner, who had come down with a cold that morning so you can see bits of his cold sore on the handle.
LOL
alright you guys just kidding; I'm not THAT big of a fan I just couldn't resist making fun of hardcore trekies.
The creation of a "false" enterprise is just not realistic here. Where would they get that information? Why would a fake ship make him fall for the girl? Is there no simpler way to put the 2 together in jeapordy? How did they get the design for the Enterprise so precise? Still I liked the episode.
im gonna go trekkie here and say that its not the enterprise but another constitution class starship they coppied, since starfleet used an awful lot of them, i assume that the first ships that came in peace were scanned then replicated the look of any generic ship of that class, its not like kirk to need a good reason to fall for a girl thats y its him. the question im interested in is, if these people have no more room, how could they afford the space for a mock starship in the first place?
Before you decide that wouldn't happen, think about this. Those people are packed together like sardines. I don't want to be disgusting, but if nature called you'd never be able to reach a restroom. Hygiene and conditions related to improper sanitation would cause illness. If every bit of landmass was covered in people where do they grow food? Numbers would have been limited by starvation. They would still have overpopulation, but they levels they portray would be impossible.
While the premise of this show is interesting, more than likely the population never would have gotten to the levels they were on the planet Gideon. Due to the crowding a simple native virus would wipe out whole sections of population. People would try to run from the death and the stampede would be a meat grinder. Using plague to control population is idiotic, like using fire to control brush and undergrowth in a drought. They more likely to wipe themselves out.
Actually common sense was lost shortly after WWll. A classic example of diplomacy prolonging a crisis is the Korean problem. If that war had not been hijacked by politicians and diplomats, we would not have the North Korean nuclear threat today, 56 years later. Yes, the death of logic and common sense is tragic.
No, they did not find WMD cause of the month Bush agreed to wait to make the UN and everybody else happy. Again "The purpose of diplomacy is to prolong a crisis". The diplomacy gave Saddam a month to get all the WMD to a safe place.
Any hostile government (USSR, China, Korea, etc.) uses diplomacy to find out how weak our resolve has become to take action.
That's nonsense. Even our intelligence services admit that they were wrong before the war.
You must be poorly educated if you think diplomacy can be summed up with a dubious line from an episode of Star Trek. Seriously.
The US is about the most afraid country on the planet. All it takes is a politician to do a little fear mongering and weak minded and fearful individuals eat it up and just can't wait to send their neighbors sons off to war. You wouldn't fall into that category perhaps?
@bealio721 -- How could that be a "Catholic planet"? Nowhere in the Original Series were there any mention of Catholic missionaries -- or ANY missionaries of ANY Earthling religion for that matter -- operating on any planet outside of Earth.
It's the fault of the Gideonites for 1) not practicing sexual chastity, 2) not colonizing the rest of their solar system and 3) letting desperation rule their policies rather than clear, calm thinking.
@bookstar77 You took my comment too literally. I did not say that Catholics visited the planet. What I meant by my statement was that a planet ruled by Catholics would look like Gideon. Birth control would be outlawed and abstinence would be taught instead of safe sex. I guess Gideon would be more of a isolationist Catholic planet. Catholics aren't the only religious people against birth control but they usually come to mind as the most promient anti-sex/abortion people.
@bealio721@bealio721 As a Catholic I take offence to your comments. The Catholic Church preaches a timed honored birth control that works 100% of the time unlike your contraceptives. It's called abstinence. Sex is fun but people can live happy lives with out it. I know I have been living with out it ever sense my first anniversary. A little marriage joke. All kidding aside, you don't want anymore kids just don't have intercourse.
@BondFreek As a person who does not belong to an organized religion, I take offense to the efforts of religious nuts trying to take away contraception and sex education. And I'm pretty sure that a well done vasectomy would make it 100%. Sex is indeed fun and people can live HAPPIER lives with it. And for all of you who don't want anymore kids, USE CONTRACEPTION! I know so many Catholic families with only two kids. We all have urges and I doubt they only fucked twice in their lives. Blueballs
@bealio721. As a Catholic I take offense of nuts telling us that we are religious nuts. You can have your contraception no one is trying to take that away. And vasectomies are painful even with pain killers. We are only pointing out there are better ways. As for your sex education that should be done by the parents. Making it public infringes on our rights as parents to raise our children free from governments interference of religion. Sexual behavior comes from religious upbringing.
@BondFreek I'm not the nutty one since I don't believe in the story of Mithra, I mean Jesus. Without sex education, you religious people are in effect taking away contraception. All religious nuts look down upon contraception. Sex education cannot be left to the parents. Just look at the cunt Sarah Palin and her daughter. I know a lot of religious kids who have kids out of wedlock because they have been told that their pee-pees are used only for pissing.
@bealio721. That is the most ridicules thing I have ever read. There has been contraception all the way back to the Roman Empire. The school of sex education did not start till the 60's and did not become world wide till the 90's. So how is sexed killing a 3 thousand year old business? Palin's daughter learned sex from school not from her parents. She did not have an abortion because her parents taught her morals. Now her baby will grow up and become the next President of the USA.
@BondFreek I'm not saying contraception will be killed. I'm saying kids don't know about contraception because their parents don't tell them. Kids need to know how to use contraception. Palin's daughter was taught abstinence (not how to use a rubber). And abortion is a woman's choice (they can choose yes or no). Or the baby could grow up to become the next tea party idiot.
@bealio721 However, I'm sure you wouldn't mind if contraception was outlawed. When I signed a pro-choice petition last week, they were handing out rubbers to all signers. They did it because the pro-lifers across the street are against any form of birth control or prevention. They were Trojans so I took one. Even though it wasn't the Magnum kind, I still used it a couple of days ago.
@BondFreek It's blasphemous only to you and people like you. You should keep your crazy ideas to your religion. And I would call a Jew, Muslim, or Christian out on anything that I believe to be stupid. I'm against organized religion and the voodoo they preach. And fucking a woman after her period to prevent conception is still a CHEAT. According to the even nuttier Christians, people can only have sex to create new life. So I am glad that you are at least a progressive organized religious nut.
@bealio721. "Organized religion and the voodoo they preach" is shared by the majority of the world. I would suggest that you take an hour to contemplate your existence and your own death. Let it fill your emotions and then ask your self is there nothing more? You might find that your life is halo with no meaning. The rest of us know who we are and why we are here and it is thanks to God who made us all.
@bealio721. Is religion "voodoo"? Only the undiscovered country holds the answers. "fucking a woman after her period to prevent conception" is not a "CHEAT" It is called the "rhythm method" and it only reduces the chances. Also it is with your wife, sex out of wedlock is still adultery (not that I'm innocent). One thing you don't get is religion brings much needed discipline to our lives. It does not make us better or worst then other people. PS I'm not a progressive, I'm a Catholic.
@BondFreek Organized religion is voodoo. You are taking the word of man and not the word of the creator (if one so exists). And the "rhythm method" also reduces the chances of pregnancy (just like a rubber). And there is nothing wrong sex out of wedlock. And we don't need religion to discipline ourselves. Maybe it was needed when we were 10 hairs from being a chimpanzee (Doh! I but not mention Evolution around you). But now we have laws to keep people in line.
@bealio721. So you don't think that God has spoken through some men, Like Moses, Jon of Ark and Padre Peo? Do you believe that the Universe is vast and we evolved? Why? Men told you but there is no SOLID evidence to prove them true (you have faith). One could say correlation of bones is "voodoo". You say we don't need religion for discipline? Then explain why 75% of all crimes are committed by none religious people. PS "rhythm method" is natural, a rubber is not.
@BondFreek Correct. Every organized religion has established itself by pretending some special mission from God, communicated to certain individuals. The Jews have their Moses; the Christians their Jesus Christ; and the Muslims their Muhammad. Each of these organized religions accuses the other of disbelief. I for one disbelieve them all. The Creator has the power to make such a communication if so desired. But when that human tells it to another person, it ceases to be a revelation. Hearsay
@BondFreek However, I believe that there is a "Word of God"; there is an undeniable revelation that does not require the word of man. The creation every human beholds is a universal language that does not require "revelation" from man. And there is solid evidence to prove that humans evolved from an earlier form of primates. I have taken Archaeology and Anthro courses and its sad to see the church hinder advances in these great fields. Like it or not, humans and chimps had a common ancestor
@BondFreek In case you haven't noticed, both laws and organized religion are MAN-MADE! And if you are an adherent of organized religion, you are definitely not progressive. Therefore, I don't doubt you. A couple of episodes contradict each other in terms of religion. In "The Galileo Seven", Spock says, "I for one do not believe in angels". Yet in "The Undiscovered Country", Spock says, "Go to Hell". If a person believes there is no Heaven, then there isn't a Hell.
@bealio721. 2 religions are not "man-made" Judaism and Christianity God made them both. Judaism through Moses, Christianity through the apostle Peter. "I name you Peter for you are rock, on this rock I will build my church." Jesus Christ son of God. Spock chainged his mind after he imbrased his human side. Why do you think he gave his spirt to Macoy? He finaly believed he had a Spirt.
@BondFreek Before Sarek knew Spock had placed his spirit in McCoy, he said all that he knew and was was LOST. In addition, Roddenberry wasn't involved with the movies much after TMP. Also, Spock's Katra was only a plot device used to bring Spock back from the dead.
Simply put, it's your business to practice your faith and it is my business to adhere to mine. I'll respect organized religions only as long they don't try to change the world with their "Blue Laws" (no abortion, contraception, etc)
@BondFreek And why do you like Star Trek so much? It is Gene Roddenberry's vision of an ideal world. In his vision, organized religion is gone thank God (pun intended). Humanity is a lot better off without organized religion. So like I said earlier, the religiously run planet of Gideon is not shown in a favorable light.
@bealio721. "Gene Roddenberry's vision of an ideal world. In his vision, organized religion" Really, then why do they still celebrate Christmas? See Episode "Dagger of The Mind". Far left wing nuts like you are always making up shit. Roddenberry was a Christian. The one time he used the bible to make his point about how bad censor ship is and you nut jobs think "He must be anti organized religion". Fact; 90% of Trekkies and Trekkers go to church.
@bealio721 BondFreek @bealio721. Gene Roddenberry "In his vision, organized religion is gone" Really, then why do they still celebrate Christmas? See Episode "Dagger of The Mind". Far left wing nuts like you are always making up shit. Roddenberry was a Christian. The one time he used the bible to make his point about how bad censor ship is and you nut jobs think "He must be anti organized religion". Fact; 90% of Trekkies and Trekkers go to church.
@BondFreek How about you point to an episode that Gene Roddenberry actually wrote. Look at "The Return of the Archons". That episode is so anti-religion and he ranked it in his personal Top 10 based on what Star Trek should be. Roddenberry was a Humanist. In 1986, he joined the American Humanist Association, and in 1991 he was awarded the AHA's Humanist Arts Award.
I love Star Trek so much because I can escape into a future world where there is very little evidence of organized religion.
@bealio721 Here is a favorite Gene Roddenberry quote of mine.
"Religions vary in their degree of idiocy, but I reject them all. For most people, religion is nothing more than a substitute for a malfunctioning brain." - Gene Roddenberry
@bealio721. "However, Roddenberry was clearly not punctilious in this regard, and some religious references exist in various episodes of both series under his watch." wikipedia/Gene_Roddenberry. Roddenberry was raised a Southern Baptist. Whether or not he wanted to admit it, it gave him guidance & discipline.
@BondFreek Where did you get 75%? Some of the nastiest people I know are adherents of organized religion. And latex occurs naturally. If the Creator didn't want us to use a rubber, he would have not given us the ability to reason. Roddenberry began to reject the teachings of his church between 14 and 16 years old. As an adult, he recalled the religion he was raised in with some disdain. As an adult he identified himself as a Humanist.
@bealio721. Actually "The Return of the Archons" can only be defined as abuse of power. It was not blatant anti-religion. "Future world where there is very little evidence of organized religion" yet has the same messages as any religious organization; Love they neighbor, might for right, forgive trespasses, peace brings posterity and we all have eternal soles {"Star Trek III", "Bread and Circuses" (also a Roddenberry favorite), Star Trek: TNG "Measure of a Man".
@BondFreek You don't need organized religion to tell you not to kill my ass and don't steal my shit. It is clear that Roddenberry felt a fairly deep hostility to organized religions, to transcendental gods and supernatural powers, though he seems to have acknowledged the civilizing mission of Christianity in Bread and Circuses, where the "Children of the Son" refuse to participate in gladiatorial combats. However, he still saw more harm than good. Bread is not on Roddenberry's top 10 list.
@bealio721. I'm bored with this subject. So I end my side of the discussion with this. Whether or not you believe, you should respect other peoples beliefs if you want them to respect you.
@bealio721. PS. Notice how my comment was removed and yours was not. There is hatred from the left aimed at Catholics. They censor our words and insult our beliefs. Then they lie and say that we are anti free religion. Freedom of speech must extend to all or it means nothing!!! Put my comment BACK CBS!!!
Well at 34:05 he mentions how their Prime Minister met with the Federation. As a result, he probably had a good idea of what a Constitution class starship looked like. In addition, they probably scanned Kirk's mind to fill in the remaining personal pieces. I propose that he was beamed down into a holedeck.
So really, the Gideons have everybody by the balls. They have to provide transporter coordinates and they can transport them into a holedeck.
sooo kirk made her sick? he actualy make her sick? and theyre happy because they think she will die? if theyre that over populated they cant just kill them themselves?
I see no faults with the idea of using disease as an effective way of reducing population. People who are opposed to contraception suggest that population should be controlled only naturally (i.e., war, disease, and famine).
The writings of Thomas Malthus clearly articulate this view point. Therefore, it is extremely plausible that the Gideons would want to reintroduce disease as oppose to using "evil" contraception.
lol well its only natural for humans to evolve therefore anything done or made by humans should also technically be considered natural -.-. killing is a natural as it gets
So... then she goes & whores it up on her planet to essentially be a deciding factor in a new eugenics programme that will restore a subjective paradise?
How odd.. you think they would just terraform another planet in that system to be a distributing place for those to go back & forth from to allow distribution whilst creating a voluntary method of ending one's life.
At least this show makes me think laterally, unlike many modern programmes.
I know! Considering how many times they offer other people new planets to start over, why did no one suggest that, rather than a volunteer killing program???
I had to laugh to myself when I saw the summary for this show. I think the aliens picked the wrong person to solve their overpopulation problem. If you get what I mean.... :)
5:15- Captain Kirk thinks he's alone on the ship. C'mon Kirk you're just missing out on the most epic game of Sardines ever! You're just the last one to find the hiding Spock. Try Scottie's liquor storage cabinet! They're all giggling to themselves in there waiting for the poor captain to catch on!
@pyromaniacchica If memory serves, the Orthodox Jews and Sunni Muslims share a similar outlook. Would you then call the planet "Catholic-Jewish-Muslim"?

The creation of a "false" enterprise is just not realistic here. Where would they get that information? Why would a fake ship make him fall for the girl? Is there no simpler way to put the 2 together in jeapordy? How did they get the design for the Enterprise so precise? Still I liked the episode.
PabloPena108 2 years ago
im gonna go trekkie here and say that its not the enterprise but another constitution class starship they coppied, since starfleet used an awful lot of them, i assume that the first ships that came in peace were scanned then replicated the look of any generic ship of that class, its not like kirk to need a good reason to fall for a girl thats y its him. the question im interested in is, if these people have no more room, how could they afford the space for a mock starship in the first place?
Akirajay38 2 years ago
Before you decide that wouldn't happen, think about this. Those people are packed together like sardines. I don't want to be disgusting, but if nature called you'd never be able to reach a restroom. Hygiene and conditions related to improper sanitation would cause illness. If every bit of landmass was covered in people where do they grow food? Numbers would have been limited by starvation. They would still have overpopulation, but they levels they portray would be impossible.
Bobanort 2 years ago
While the premise of this show is interesting, more than likely the population never would have gotten to the levels they were on the planet Gideon. Due to the crowding a simple native virus would wipe out whole sections of population. People would try to run from the death and the stampede would be a meat grinder. Using plague to control population is idiotic, like using fire to control brush and undergrowth in a drought. They more likely to wipe themselves out.

It was stated in the episode that infectious disease simply did not exist on the planet.

Actually common sense was lost shortly after WWll. A classic example of diplomacy prolonging a crisis is the Korean problem. If that war had not been hijacked by politicians and diplomats, we would not have the North Korean nuclear threat today, 56 years later. Yes, the death of logic and common sense is tragic.
rv8wannabe 2 years ago
As Spock says 7:18 "the purpose of diplomacy is to prolong a crisis" = give them time to hide WMD.
It's amazing how much common sense has been lost since the time Star Trek aired.

Do you really think we lied?
If it weren't for political bias you wouldn't begin to believe that.
What do you think Saddam Hussein did with all that time while Bush waited trying to please everybody before going to war?
As Spock said "the purpose of diplomacy is to prolong a crisis".

Go ahead and believe what the media tells you to believe. Braindead people need someone to tell them what to think.
breezebro 1 year ago
@breezebro
There weren't WMD. That is a fact established by our military.
"We" didn't lie. Our government did. Not the first time.
Bush was waiting for something that Saddam couldn't provide.
Without diplomacy what do you have? War? Smart.
AirplaneRider 1 year ago
You really believe that psycho Saddam didn't have WMD? We are represented by our government so it is "WE".
Diplomacy is where a hostile government sees your weakness and therefore promotes war. Dumb.
As Spock said "the purpose of diplomacy is to prolong a crisis".
breezebro 1 year ago
@breezebro It's not about what I believe. I'm telling you the facts. Our military determined that he did not have WMD.
What hostile government are you talking about? The United States?
AirplaneRider 1 year ago
No, they did not find WMD cause of the month Bush agreed to wait to make the UN and everybody else happy. Again "The purpose of diplomacy is to prolong a crisis". The diplomacy gave Saddam a month to get all the WMD to a safe place.
Any hostile government (USSR, China, Korea, etc.) uses diplomacy to find out how weak our resolve has become to take action.
breezebro 1 year ago
That's nonsense. Even our intelligence services admit that they were wrong before the war.
You must be poorly educated if you think diplomacy can be summed up with a dubious line from an episode of Star Trek. Seriously.
The US is about the most afraid country on the planet. All it takes is a politician to do a little fear mongering and weak minded and fearful individuals eat it up and just can't wait to send their neighbors sons off to war. You wouldn't fall into that category perhaps?

This must be a Catholic planet.
Moral of the story: Use a rubber.
bealio721 2 years ago
@bealio721 -- How could that be a "Catholic planet"? Nowhere in the Original Series were there any mention of Catholic missionaries -- or ANY missionaries of ANY Earthling religion for that matter -- operating on any planet outside of Earth.
It's the fault of the Gideonites for 1) not practicing sexual chastity, 2) not colonizing the rest of their solar system and 3) letting desperation rule their policies rather than clear, calm thinking.
bookstar77 1 year ago
@bookstar77 You took my comment too literally. I did not say that Catholics visited the planet. What I meant by my statement was that a planet ruled by Catholics would look like Gideon. Birth control would be outlawed and abstinence would be taught instead of safe sex. I guess Gideon would be more of a isolationist Catholic planet. Catholics aren't the only religious people against birth control but they usually come to mind as the most promient anti-sex/abortion people.

@bealio721 @bealio721 As a Catholic I take offence to your comments.
BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek As a person who does not belong to an organized religion, I take offense to the efforts of religious nuts trying to take away contraception and sex education. And I'm pretty sure that a well done vasectomy would make it 100%. Sex is indeed fun and people can live HAPPIER lives with it. And for all of you who don't want anymore kids, USE CONTRACEPTION! I know so many Catholic families with only two kids. We all have urges and I doubt they only fucked twice in their lives. Blueballs
bealio721 1 year ago
BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek I'm not the nutty one since I don't believe in the story of Mithra, I mean Jesus. Without sex education, you religious people are in effect taking away contraception. All religious nuts look down upon contraception. Sex education cannot be left to the parents. Just look at the cunt Sarah Palin and her daughter. I know a lot of religious kids who have kids out of wedlock because they have been told that their pee-pees are used only for pissing.
bealio721 1 year ago
BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek I'm not saying contraception will be killed. I'm saying kids don't know about contraception because their parents don't tell them. Kids need to know how to use contraception. Palin's daughter was taught abstinence (not how to use a rubber). And abortion is a woman's choice (they can choose yes or no). Or the baby could grow up to become the next tea party idiot.
bealio721 1 year ago
@bealio721 However, I'm sure you wouldn't mind if contraception was outlawed. When I signed a pro-choice petition last week, they were handing out rubbers to all signers. They did it because the pro-lifers across the street are against any form of birth control or prevention. They were Trojans so I took one. Even though it wasn't the Magnum kind, I still used it a couple of days ago.

BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek It's blasphemous only to you and people like you. You should keep your crazy ideas to your religion. And I would call a Jew, Muslim, or Christian out on anything that I believe to be stupid. I'm against organized religion and the voodoo they preach. And fucking a woman after her period to prevent conception is still a CHEAT. According to the even nuttier Christians, people can only have sex to create new life. So I am glad that you are at least a progressive organized religious nut.
bealio721 1 year ago
BondFreek 1 year ago
BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek Organized religion is voodoo. You are taking the word of man and not the word of the creator (if one so exists). And the "rhythm method" also reduces the chances of pregnancy (just like a rubber). And there is nothing wrong sex out of wedlock. And we don't need religion to discipline ourselves. Maybe it was needed when we were 10 hairs from being a chimpanzee (Doh! I but not mention Evolution around you). But now we have laws to keep people in line.
bealio721 1 year ago
BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek Correct. Every organized religion has established itself by pretending some special mission from God, communicated to certain individuals. The Jews have their Moses; the Christians their Jesus Christ; and the Muslims their Muhammad. Each of these organized religions accuses the other of disbelief. I for one disbelieve them all. The Creator has the power to make such a communication if so desired. But when that human tells it to another person, it ceases to be a revelation. Hearsay
bealio721 1 year ago
@BondFreek However, I believe that there is a "Word of God"; there is an undeniable revelation that does not require the word of man. The creation every human beholds is a universal language that does not require "revelation" from man. And there is solid evidence to prove that humans evolved from an earlier form of primates. I have taken Archaeology and Anthro courses and its sad to see the church hinder advances in these great fields. Like it or not, humans and chimps had a common ancestor
bealio721 1 year ago
@BondFreek In case you haven't noticed, both laws and organized religion are MAN-MADE! And if you are an adherent of organized religion, you are definitely not progressive. Therefore, I don't doubt you. A couple of episodes contradict each other in terms of religion. In "The Galileo Seven", Spock says, "I for one do not believe in angels". Yet in "The Undiscovered Country", Spock says, "Go to Hell". If a person believes there is no Heaven, then there isn't a Hell.
bealio721 1 year ago
@bealio721. 2 religions are not "man-made" Judaism and Christianity God made them both.
BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek Before Sarek knew Spock had placed his spirit in McCoy, he said all that he knew and was was LOST. In addition, Roddenberry wasn't involved with the movies much after TMP. Also, Spock's Katra was only a plot device used to bring Spock back from the dead.
Simply put, it's your business to practice your faith and it is my business to adhere to mine. I'll respect organized religions only as long they don't try to change the world with their "Blue Laws" (no abortion, contraception, etc)
bealio721 1 year ago
@BondFreek And why do you like Star Trek so much? It is Gene Roddenberry's vision of an ideal world. In his vision, organized religion is gone thank God (pun intended). Humanity is a lot better off without organized religion. So like I said earlier, the religiously run planet of Gideon is not shown in a favorable light.
bealio721 1 year ago
@bealio721. "Gene Roddenberry's vision of an ideal world. In his vision, organized religion" Really, then why do they still celebrate Christmas? See Episode "Dagger of The Mind".
I love Star Trek so much because I can escape into a future world where there is very little evidence of organized religion.
bealio721 1 year ago
@bealio721 Here is a favorite Gene Roddenberry quote of mine.
"Religions vary in their degree of idiocy, but I reject them all. For most people, religion is nothing more than a substitute for a malfunctioning brain." - Gene Roddenberry
bealio721 1 year ago
BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek Where did you get 75%? Some of the nastiest people I know are adherents of organized religion. And latex occurs naturally. If the Creator didn't want us to use a rubber, he would have not given us the ability to reason. Roddenberry began to reject the teachings of his church between 14 and 16 years old. As an adult, he recalled the religion he was raised in with some disdain. As an adult he identified himself as a Humanist.
bealio721 1 year ago
BondFreek 1 year ago
@BondFreek You don't need organized religion to tell you not to kill my ass and don't steal my shit. It is clear that Roddenberry felt a fairly deep hostility to organized religions, to transcendental gods and supernatural powers, though he seems to have acknowledged the civilizing mission of Christianity in Bread and Circuses, where the "Children of the Son" refuse to participate in gladiatorial combats. However, he still saw more harm than good. Bread is not on Roddenberry's top 10 list.

They have to provide transporter coordinates and they can transport them into a holedeck.
bealio721 2 years ago
sooo kirk made her sick? he actualy make her sick? and theyre happy because they think she will die? if theyre that over populated they cant just kill them themselves?
Hidazuu 2 years ago
I see no faults with the idea of using disease as an effective way of reducing population. People who are opposed to contraception suggest that population should be controlled only naturally (i.e., war, disease, and famine).
The writings of Thomas Malthus clearly articulate this view point. Therefore, it is extremely plausible that the Gideons would want to reintroduce disease as oppose to using "evil" contraception.
