  • Zeppole, a childhood favorite. In Brooklyn, NY you could get them at the mom and pop pizza shops. You could eat them till you got a belly ache. Thank you the memory and excellent easy to follow instructions. Please post more!

  • She looks like Edeth Bunker or Elizabeth Taylor. Cheers!

  • do i have to use dry yeast , i have a recipe that dosent call for it

  • @Zombie8Cupcake

No, you can use any type of yeast. I am used to using dry yeast but my Mother always used cake yeast. They all work well.

  • @AutomatixQueen

These are so simple to make and I would love to know how you and your daughter like them. My children loved them and enjoyed putting either powder sugar or honey on them. Thanks for the comment and remember let me hear back how your daughter likes them.

So happy this recipe brought back memories. My children also wanted EXTRA POWDERED SUGAR and my husband loves dipping the zeppole in honey. Happy memories to all!

  • OMG - grew up with these as a christmas eve treat. Grandmother & mother would make a large batch of dough dividing it in three. 1/3 sweet with raisins rolled n sugar, 1/3 with cod and 1/3 with anchovy

Four generation I know of make this a must

  • @AnimalsinHelotes

Family memories need to be cherished and hold dear to our hearts. It is always wonderful when we can do that with food. Hope you will make these and let me know if they are like your Mom's and Grandmother's.

  • OMG!! THANK YOU so much for posting this video! I grew up on these things! My grandmom, aunts & mom use to get together and make these every christmas! Thanks so much for bringing back wonderful memories!

  • @phillygrl69

Thanks for the lovely comment. Hold on to those family memories, they are one of the best things in life! May you have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

  • @marycooks You are so welcome! I was wondering if you have ever heard of Rice Pie? We would have it for the Easter holiday. Please know, that I am so happy that I found your videos!

  • @phillygrl69

I too remember the Rice Pie at Easter time. I will search through my family recipes and hopefully will find the one my Mother made. I plan to post it at Easter time. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Thank you for the recipe. I see that your recipe calls for one cup of water to one cup of flour but it looks like you used 2 cups of water in the video to one cup of flour. Can you clarify?

  • @fgallope

My glass measuring cup is a one cup measure. The recipe calls for 1 cup water to 1 or 1/14 cups flour. Thanks for the comment. Love to hear how the recipe comes out.

  • You don't add sugar to the water/yeast mixture? I thought yeast needed sugar to produce CO2 to make the bubbles. Did I miss something?

  • @teknotoast

I do not add sugar to the mixture, not necessary.

  • @marycooks ok! Thanks for the clarification. Can't wait to try them out.

  • @marycooks I have my mother in law's recipe which is the same as yours, Only on Xmas eve she makes some plain & some with pieces of (BACALA0 Cod fish ) mixed into the dough, great if you like the fish taste,? If you don't have cod fish you can use Anchovies instead,& we drain them on a big ripped in half brown paper bag, that we get from the supermarket's, Works great & thanks for putting up your family's Zeppolie recipe

  • @MyREDTAIL

My Mom did the same with Bacala. Thanks for sharing the method with others.

  • you remind me of my aunt :)

  • Mary, My husband and I made these today! It was so much fun and they came out great. This is going to be a regular holiday treat in this house for now on. Thank You so much for making this video. I can tell you are a teacher you do such a great job. Now I am going to try the other recipes. I will let you know how it goes.

    Best,

    Sue

  • @Justsue400

I am so happy to hear the recipe worked out well for you. These zeppole are so light and delicious and great anything.

  • @marycooks They remind me of the feast of St. Gesseppe in NYC Little Italy growing up.

  • @MyREDTAIL Mary I found it easier when your making them by using your hand to have a bowl of water near by & dip your hand into the water each time you grab the dough & it will not be so sticky, when grabing the next batch of dough to drop into the pot. just a good tip.

  • I love your video's. You're so sweet and fun. Reminds of my Grandma!

  • @sweety2285

What a lovely comment. Thanks for watching and the very best to you.

  • too cute...thanks fo rthe vid.

  • just stumbled upon your channel, thanks for the great videos!

makes me miss my nonna even more!

  • @chompo7 Welcome to my channel and so glad my recipes bring back fond memories. I, too, miss my Grandma and Mom but so thankful for all the love and attention they always gave me plus these great recipes.

  • Don't they also use white wine when kneeding the dough?

  • @josny1 I'm not familiar with the white wine being added. Can't see the reason for it .

  • Mary...that zeppole dough is beautiful! They look very light and airy. Most zeppoli I've eaten are heavy greasy balls of dough. Yours are definitely worth making. Thanks for another wonderful video.

  • @KingKongFan

These do come out very light and airy and not with a cake or heavy dough consistency. I bet you can't stop at one! Enjoy.

  • Thank you for this wonderful journey of rediscovery. This video provided me with an outlet to ask questions of the older members of my Italian family and learn that my great-grandmother also made these delicious snacks for her family. Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories with us and for giving us the opportunity to create new memories.

  • @BellaCalabrese125

I agree with you about learning more about our heritage from our senior relatives. They have so much insight and knowledge to offer us. Keep up the communication and savor those moments together. Thanks for your lovely comment.

  • Amazing! They taste just like the ones in New York's Little Italy. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

  • @mrsgallin

Thank you so much for the nice comment and I am so glad that this recipe brought back memories of Little Italy.

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • @JimboJitsu

You're welcome and I hope you get to try this recipe. It's fun to make and a delicious treat.
