  • 5:49 tower of terror!!!!!!

  • I remember that!

  • Excellent review! Thank you for sharing such a great toy! I had this very playset and wore it out with great battles. You took the time to point out all the details of the set. I clearly remember all of it and haven't seen images of it since I was young. What a special thing to see it again. I was at a great age for when this came out, 8 years old. I remember constantly putting the top back on after blowing up the main gun. These toys allowed us to take Star Wars home with us. Great review!

  • @Cookenour I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. Have nt had time to do much reviews or videos but I would like to use this for a future Diorama.

Again, thanks for the kind posts.

  • Duuuuude!! Ya gotta liek, close teh door on teh elevaaator when you use it ... Or is your elevator door not there/not working?

Also, that plastic rope thingy for Luke + Leia to go across the chasm is all there ever was ... (just as you have it) ... There was never a rope that went with it ... Just that little handcuff-looking thingy.

My friend had this thing ... we played with it lots ... It was awesome.

  • @Groome007 Oh the elevator works just fine. Thanks for the info on the rope. I thought it was missing something.

Glad I could bring back some memories. I will try to use this in a diorama in the future.

  • @supremeobliterator go to hell

  • Thanks, cool review!!!

  • Wouldn't mind seeing Hasbro bringing this sucker back out as part of the current vintage line. I have the POTF 2 cell block and DS chasim playsets. Wish we could get a decent modern trash compactor playset.

  • @Captmiloman I wouldn't mind seeing it either. But the world is in recession right now and I don't think it's feesable for Hasbro to do it. Plus most fans who would buy it also have to consider space as well as economics.

But if the world recession ends maybe thier will be a market for it. BTW, I have those POFT II playsets as well, all exept the Hoth one and the Cantina. I hope someday Hasbro comes out with more playsets and backdrop stuff in Battle Packs as well !

  • I had one of these!Cool.

  • vintage Star Wars toys are my passion! love that you have done videos about them! i think i have three of these playsets, it was my favorite! couple things though: this came out in 1978, and there was a vintage Imperial Gunner figure, it came out in 1985!

  • The playset was very accurate to scenes in the film. Each floor with the cardboard interiors are from different scenes on the Death Star. The Palitoy version is also awesome.

  • @Bluesnagg

You are right their.I have heard of the other versionreleased in the French speaking world but have never seen itin person.

They had anotyher version palnned with the six computer controles in a circle but never made it.

  • I got this for Christmas when I was a kid and remember my neighborhood friends being so jealous when they saw it. Loved playing with it! My favorite part was the trash compactor.

  • @ashthecat3

Cool memory. I get a lot of older collectors commenting of the D.S playset. Glad I could bring back the memories.

I intend to use this in future Diorama's if I can get regular access to a PC again.

  • I longed to own this toy since 1978. Shocked to see that back in the day it was only $18 (I thought it was $100 or more).

  • $18.00 back in 1978 huh ? Well, considering that a large toy from hasbro is like around $100.00 this Christmas does that mean inflation went up 500% in 32 years ? I didn't think it was that much !

Yeah, I got this for the around $75.00 U.S last year on Ebay. You can try to look their for a god one. But try to find one with the gun intact and the rope piece that is not missing. also the foam tends to deteriorate over that period as well. Good luck in gwtting one !

  • Holy crap did this bring back some great memories...thank you for posting this! My parents and I had a great laugh over recalling the first set up on Christmas morning 1978. :)

  • You and your parents watched my video ? Thanks. I think it's cool to show younger SW fans who mainly know the Clone Wars this stuff as well. Gives SW continuity.

  • I used to have one but It got all busted up and all I have left is the trash monster

  • Well, as I said who knew back then when SW stuff was mainly bought by kids that the stuff would be valuable someday.

You can still try to sell the trash monster on Ebay if you don't want it.

  • Good review.

I had one back in 1977/1978 but was too young to appreciate it. Wish I still had it (along with my original Mattel Electronics handheld games and Superhero action figures). Great collectors stuff!

  • Yeah, you find a lot of thrashed ones on EBay, it's hard to find one with the gun intact. Did you break your gun or do you remember ?

If people only knew to get one to play with and one to save. But who knew back then ?

  • hey supreme, now that you dont want yr death star anymore, you can send it to me down under, here in australia, as we never got this(US) version. We only got the palitoy/toltoys version--which was super cool too. Ill wait out the front for the mail-man, dont take too long pls. LOL LOL

  • what is the website for those paper control panels?

  • cool wish hasbro comes out with a modern version of this playset

  • Great review!

Back in the day in the UK, that version of the Death Star play set was unavailable, the UK version (Palitoy) was made of virtually all cardboard, it was very cool though, as long as nobody didn't spill any liquid over it! That's why they are so rare now I suppose... I loved mine.

Keep up the good work! You have another subscriber...

  • Cool thanks !

  • I got mine for 100$ but I came with 15 kenner toys. And mine was as good as they come.

  • Awesome ! I did not get the box "But I have seen picturs of it and know what it looks like !

I assume you have the box ?

  • I did but my dog at it. She even at my sons 150 page LA book. I was very very mad about it.

  • hey man I hate to ask this but can you please send me a play list of all of your new videos please.

  • Sure !

  • ok Thanks

  • i post a video as a video respons to this video so you can see the POTF "playsets"! hope its okey.... nice review

  • I have all of the death star Stuff from Kenner I grew up then. And i Thought they did make a death star gunner. I have all of the new play sets. I hope They remake one.

  • very nice, cool review

  • is their a half of it?

  • I do not understand the question. Do you mean another half to the playset ?

Another half of the Trash Compactor Diorama we were talking about ?

    Please rephrase the question !

  • Great review,

The garbage creature is called a Dianoga,A newer version comes with the 2002 Death Star Trash Compactor diorama sets, the head comes with Leia(holding flexy pole) and Chewie in one set, while the tail comes with Han and Luke in the other to complete the creature.

If you can track them down the sets would add to your diorama nicely.

  • I have heard about the Trash CCompactor Diorama. I shall have to look into getting it sometime !

    Thanks !

  • pretty cool, great review.

  • Nice Review , especially since it's a Vintage .

  • they need to re-relase this with todays technology.

  • I hope they do I really do.

  • nice review!5/5!

  • Cool!
