@CorporalDwaynHicks I was thinking that too, but then I think it's more to do with the Enterprise ships. @CorporalDwaynHicks Fan? hmmm not sure really. I respect the show and don't think of it as the bad one in the franchise. And unlike Star Trek: Enterprise I've actually sat through a number of episodes and have been entertained, I'll watch it if it's on, but the only ones that I really am fans of have got to be TNG and VOY for me. I love the pop culture created by TOS and the JJ. Abrams movie I thought was the best of all the trek films, but I have found it hard to sit through TOS episodes, you?
I have to say that this is the worst TV series ending I have ever seen. I refused to believe it was the last episode until I checked imdb. Disappointing to say the least. :/
@EyeOnTheTV /facepalm i'm sorry but did you even think when you wrote that? I don't mean to insult but that statement had no thought put into it at all. The entire enterprise series happened. The final episode was how it happened but with Riker and Deanna reliving it to help Riker.
@galenwolf Right, I know it's a silly comment. BUT, it could be argued, mind you not very convincingly, that the entire Enterprise series could have occurred on a holodeck in the 24th century because of this episode. Just think of it as a "what-if".
@dwellerindarkplaces It was just as well though. I never saw the series, but they fucked Star Trek canon all to hell by portraying humans having contact with Romulans before the events in TOS Balance Of Terror, which was supposed to be the first time humans ever saw Romulans, which was why they were so shocked at the similarity to Spock. So seen in that context its just as well it was all a dream.
@Athenesword14 It was Trek canon that there had been an Earth/Romulan war in the late 2250s, early 2260s... they just never saw the Romulans when they were fighting them, they only communicated over voice channels.
@dwellerindarkplaces Actually it was "This was a holo recording of the events of the last days of the enterprise NX-01 being witnessed in the 24th century by Riker and Deanna reliving it to help Riker." Trips death was crap and the handling of trying to tie in TNG with the NX-01 didn't work, but it wasn't a dream.

Oh boy, why in hell must they kill Trip in the final episode. I mean, come on its Trip. One of the most likable character in the show. Why cant T`Pol an Trip be together. The last episode fuckt the whole show up. I cant think of one good reasen why they give the last episod suche a bitter ending.
I saw it as a hollow death too... no point to it other than punch up the drama... But the worse part was making the last episode part of the whole TNG holodeck [but then you can ignore his death as if this episode was more of a holonovel than actual history]
this series was good, 2nd best series in my list, tos was my 1st fav and tng was my third fav, voyager as 4th, and im not listing ds9, cause that series sucked. i hope they make some new series, they should make one on enterprise j, or they should make on the alternate reality from 2009 film, im interested to see if captain picard still becomes captain of an alternate enterprise d.
@wgkawai No Enterprise itself was disrespectful to the fans from the start. Scott Bakula? T'Pol being so emotional all the time? Temporal cold war? The whole thing reeked, this scene was probably the only redeeming aspect to the whole flaming turd.
how come the Enterprise for, um, "Enterprise" looks more advanced than the TOS ship? Yeah, yeah it was made in the 60's, but is there an in universe explanation for that?

Just watched 3 seasons back to back recently having not really bothered with it at the time. Got to say that overall i thought, not bad, some good episodes some bad. Still don't think Bakula was right, and Anthony Montgomery is an awful actor. But have to say the Finale is woefully bad! A kick in the balls to all fans. Those B & B guys should be ashamed of it.
Yeah we both. It is what I really wanted to see, if there would have been a 5th season. I blame UPN for that with their low crappy ratings and now the CW is basically in the same boat which is run by the same person that ran UPN. Smallville somehow manage to survived 10 seasons on that channel after 5 years. I have been a fan of both shows, ENT and SV. If Enterprise was broadcast in first-run syndication then maybe it would have lasted as long as TNG, DS9, & Voyager with 7 seasons.
@leonel1982 not just that, but the first contact with klingons was supposed to be a giant war as well, that is the motivation for half the original series, humans vs klingons, the war was over by then, but they still were at each others throats throughout all of it.
@bigkiwimike Actually, no. In Azati Prime, season 3, episode 18, another Enterprise is seen. This one has the registry, NCC-1701-J. It was on the background of a computer screen.
While I think ENT was the weakest of the live action series, if your a true Trekker, you can't hate a series. I didn't care to much for ENT, but I don't hate on it. It had it's good episodes, it just didn't cut if for me.
The problem.. the reason why Star Trek Enterprise didn't work... Scott Dracula was in Quantum Leap.. another sci fi show... so there's the problem, everyone's used to seeing him play Sam from Quantum Leap. That is iconic and it's unwise to cast him as the captain of a ship, the star of the show in possibly the biggest Sci Fi franchise of all. It just cheapens both Quantum Leap and Star Trek by doing that. That's my opinion anyway.
This episode was a good idea but should never have been the last one. It sucks that they made the big ending nothing but a crappy simulation for Riker's benefit. The previous episode - Terra Prime - would have been the perfect way to end the series.
@novasigma - I agree so much. That really took away from where the episode could have been taken. I mean it was awesome watching those episodes with the Traveler taking Jonathan Archer to that point in time to show him what he was meant to do and seeing the entire layout of the United Federation of Planets. I was so eager to see how that entire episode would be presented and then they made it merely this simulation for Riker & Troy as if it was their play thing that they threw away at the end.
on season 4 Enterprise became somewhat better because of another writer but i just love how Braga and Berman had to remind us how much they suck in the last episode :P
It sucks that they ended Enterprise just as it was finally finding itself as a series. The 4th season was probably one of the best I have ever seen. It also ended just as the Earth-Romulan war was about to happen!
@FormicHiveQueen I can actually find some good points in all the shows. Voyager was different - for a reason. The Star Trek franchise is probably one of the most diverse in terms of genre. I think Voyager went down a more dramatic path, where as TNG was a good mix of both. DS9 became dark drama/action. Enterprise, though I've not seen fully, seems to be more action maybe? Either way.
I happened to like Enterprise. Sure, it wasn't as good as TNG or TOS; but after the abortion of a TV show Voyager was, Enterprise brought some much-needed quality back to Star Trek. It's just a shame they cancelled the show just when it had finally found its direction.
If you watch Enterprise in order on Netflix or whatever the characters are anything b ut flat. They are complex and feel very real-this is my favorite of all the ST's and personally DS9 and Voyager were at the bottom. I have no idea what people say in voyager... I'm not ashamed to admit there were more than 1 Enterprise episodes that made me cry and im a pretty manly man. ;p
Having been unhappy with most of the first 2 series & starting to get more intrigued during the Xindi arc, it was disappointing to see ST:ENT end after what was its best season with this ordinary episode. There was so much promise shown thanks to Manny Coto & the 5 mini-arcs that helped with NX-01's place in the legacy (eg the Mirror episodes were brilliant). Sad to say this episode played a tired & misplaced Next Gen filler. Cutting away from Archer at the end before his speech was criminal
@godzillaisnuclea123 lulz. even hardcore trekies know voyager is the worst of the 5 series. voyager pussified the borg in a way that makes me want to punch kittens. story wise i will give it TNG but action goes to ENT. let me guess there's too much action for your taste in DS9 too isn't there?
@simpsonfan13 eterprise is the worst by far. I still like it but it doesnt fell star trekkie enough. Voyager is epic and all the characters are great especially janeway.
@misterRDF Voyager had great concept (lost in space, long journey back to home passing thru the Borg territory etc), plus some cool characters like Tuvok, the best Trek Doctor and of course Seven!!!
@simpsonfan13 Do you rate star trek on the amount of action? I personally feel that voyagers crew interact better with each other, in enterprise there is less depth to each character. Anyway polling websites often rate enterprise the worst and TNG the best.
@godzillaisnuclea123 no i dont. but i hate how the uber-trekies, compressed their sphincters into a diamond when they saw the enterprise fire off more than 1 phaser blast per month. and "more depth"? wtf? depth in voyager? what exactly about chakotay was "deep"/ we foound out he was NA. and ummm....
You just proved my point. Starfleet is so young they dont really know what to do in any situation. Captain Kirk, Picard, Janeway, and Sisco have the benifit of hundreds of years around. Archer and his crew only had 60ish. Really thik about it before you make bad accusations against a good crew. not only did they have little knowlege or experiance they also had the weight of starfleet on their shoulders and the Vulcans breathing down their necks. (See: Shockwave Parts I & II for examples.)
@TheComedylover92 Not to mention a far advanced race from a future timeline! No biggy! That story could have continued a few more seasons! Tragic really!
So "Enterprise" was really just a screwed up holodeck program? That makes me feel better to be honest. And given all the in continuities it does tend to show that the computer on 1701-D was having some problems.
Data will run a level one diagnostic to solve the problem.
@KuunLan87 All are ok but you have to look at the standpoint that this is before even the United Federation of Planets. they are still learning about the universe while as The crew of NCC-1701 already know alot about the universe.
@TheComedylover92 Fine and dandy, bro. But how can you defend, for example, their actions in "Dear Doctor"? Standing idly by, while an entire spicies dies out? Beacuse Flox thinks nature "intednded" for them to die? Or enciting a war between the Vulcans and the Andorians, beacuse Archer has a grude with the former? Granted, in ENT they seem to be nothing but pompus, self-righteous jerks. But that only shows how OFF the show is from what the rest of the franchise established.
ok WTF is up with the size of the holodecks, they're just a lil bigger than an average bedroom. Even if the ground moved like a treadmill, its ridiculous they played baseball in one episode. How can u play baseball in a bedroom
@mikedd56 the term holodeck has 2 meanings - its a generic term for where a number of holosuites are located (small holodeck rooms) for small private simulations (like the bar Riker creates to play his trombone) and then the main holodeck itself which takes up the entire deck for large simulations. ths way the entire crew isnt held up waiting for a single holodeck. here Riker and Troy are on the holodeck but in one of the holosuites.
I never really liked Enterprise, but turning the last episode into a Next Generation holodeck wank-a-thon, and ending it RIGHT as Archer was about to enjoy his time in the sun was just fucking galling. I still can't believe they slapped the Enterprise cast and crew in the face like that. :(
There was a grim finality in the closing scenes, the end of an era. After 18 years it really was the end for Trek. I don't think we'll see another new series on TV for a generation. It's now 2011,and the world has moved on.Star Trek is not as relevant as it once was and will in time be regarded as another science fantasy series which attempted to predict the future.
@raptorjesus142 I said it when DS9 and Voyager were finishing up, and I'll say it again: Trek needs at least ten, preferably twenty years before they even think about another series. Give the viewers time to catch their breath, and time for Rick Berman to fly up his own arse.
To bad everything that happened on all the tv shows have now been nullified due to Old Spock changing the time continuum in the new movie! I would still like to see Pike's Voyages in the original time continuum. A lot of fans would like to see his voyages and what happened to his crew.
@derworfnet The Good That Men Do, then there's the Kobayashi Maru, and the last one that is out i think is The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor's Wing. Coming this month is the next book, To Brave the Storm. I'm in the process of reading the third one, I recommend it for anyone else if you like Enterprise
@derworfnet Watching this episode a few more times over the years, I've come to appreciate then non- dumbassed Shran storyline scenes. The scenes between Trip and Riker, where he talks about trust and where Trip and Malcolm are talking about how there'll be a new Enterprise one day, and that it won't matter if it's not the same are really poignant.
I think if the writers focused more on making this episode a tribute and ditched the Shran action sub plot we would've had a much better finale.
@ezri85 Well, I think it's important to understand that Brannon and Bragga were pissed off and decided to spike the last few episodes once it was clear they weren't getting another shot. So you ended up with the unsatisfying storylines around Trip and T'Pol etc.
Enterprise was insanely underrated, the show had a very slow start (but all the shows had the same problem), when the show started to pick up some pace it was canceled. The final episode was a disaster, I'd love to know who had the idea of making the final episode of Enterprise a fucking holodeck simulation from a TNG episode that wasn't even that good.
The final episode should of been all about the start of the Romulan war.
@CynicalVision I agree. The romulan war, would have stretched the series AT LEAST 2 seasons. And it should have been brutal, not like the dominion "war"
Yea u rght zivwar....yea he needs to excercise again....but the last episode should have been michelle nichols viewn the last episode....tat wud hav been just right...a tribute
Enterprise - probably the most unfairly vilified of all the Trek spin-offs. Much missed - and the complete abortion of an ending to Season 4 was something it did not deserve.
@TheReasonWhyGuy n the writers f...d it up even the actors were dissapointed... and why the heck did they kill trip on the very last episode.... like they had a vengeance or something on Mr. Trinneer...
So i take it the whole saga of captain Archer was just a holo novel, thats what i'm going with. Surely starfleet wouldn't allow such woose to be a captain
what about Voyager?

The temporal coldwar line was pure Dr. Who ripoff, and had no place in ST:E.
Season 1: Setting introduction through exploration.
Season 2: more setting intro and building some tension between the major players.
Season 3: Tensions tightens, as the enterprise crew discovers the Romulan plot and works to expose it to prevent a war.
Season 4: Diplomacy lays the foundations of the federation leading to build up toward the Earth/Romulan war.
Season 5: earth/romulan war and aftermath.

SethHesio 3 months ago
This episode was a good idea but should never have been the last one. It sucks that they made the big ending nothing but a crappy simulation for Riker's benefit. The previous episode - Terra Prime - would have been the perfect way to end the series.
novasigma 3 months ago 28
@novasigma - I agree so much. That really took away from where the episode could have been taken. I mean it was awesome watching those episodes with the Traveler taking Jonathan Archer to that point in time to show him what he was meant to do and seeing the entire layout of the United Federation of Planets. I was so eager to see how that entire episode would be presented and then they made it merely this simulation for Riker & Troy as if it was their play thing that they threw away at the end.
DrChiMD 3 months ago
@novasigma Absolutely agreed. I hate how they depicted such an important finale.
UltramanII 2 months ago
@novasigma The perfect way to end the series would have been to let it run the full seven seasons instead of canceling it!!! Fucking Exec's!!

on season 4 Enterprise became somewhat better because of another writer but i just love how Braga and Berman had to remind us how much they suck in the last episode :P

Star trek TNG one of my favorie shows from the early 90s.
Dim4323 3 months ago
It sucks that they ended Enterprise just as it was finally finding itself as a series. The 4th season was probably one of the best I have ever seen. It also ended just as the Earth-Romulan war was about to happen!

why didn't they do janeway?
nicedragons 3 months ago
Because A) no one gives a fuck about her and B) her ship wasn't called Enterprise.

Either way.
xorith 3 months ago
I happened to like Enterprise. Sure, it wasn't as good as TNG or TOS; but after the abortion of a TV show Voyager was, Enterprise brought some much-needed quality back to Star Trek. It's just a shame they cancelled the show just when it had finally found its direction.
FormicHiveQueen 3 months ago 3
they f...d up the finale like they wanted to sabotage it.... i was really dissapointed...

Horrible ending
oldatarigamer 3 months ago
If you watch Enterprise in order on Netflix or whatever the characters are anything b ut flat. They are complex and feel very real-this is my favorite of all the ST's and personally DS9 and Voyager were at the bottom. I have no idea what people say in voyager... I'm not ashamed to admit there were more than 1 Enterprise episodes that made me cry and im a pretty manly man. ;p

Trekie92 4 months ago
Having been unhappy with most of the first 2 series & starting to get more intrigued during the Xindi arc, it was disappointing to see ST:ENT end after what was its best season with this ordinary episode. There was so much promise shown thanks to Manny Coto & the 5 mini-arcs that helped with NX-01's place in the legacy (eg the Mirror episodes were brilliant). Sad to say this episode played a tired & misplaced Next Gen filler. Cutting away from Archer at the end before his speech was criminal
MrAgm65 4 months ago
The next generation and voyager totally own enterprise.
godzillaisnuclea123 4 months ago
@godzillaisnuclea123 lulz. even hardcore trekies know voyager is the worst of the 5 series. voyager pussified the borg in a way that makes me want to punch kittens. story wise i will give it TNG but action goes to ENT. let me guess there's too much action for your taste in DS9 too isn't there?
simpsonfan13 4 months ago
@simpsonfan13 eterprise is the worst by far. I still like it but it doesnt fell star trekkie enough. Voyager is epic and all the characters are great especially janeway.

@misterRDF Voyager had great concept (lost in space, long journey back to home passing thru the Borg territory etc), plus some cool characters like Tuvok, the best Trek Doctor and of course Seven!!!
muradeen 1 month ago
@simpsonfan13 Do you rate star trek on the amount of action? I personally feel that voyagers crew interact better with each other, in enterprise there is less depth to each character. Anyway polling websites often rate enterprise the worst and TNG the best.
godzillaisnuclea123 4 months ago
@godzillaisnuclea123 no i dont. but i hate how the uber-trekies, compressed their sphincters into a diamond when they saw the enterprise fire off more than 1 phaser blast per month. and "more depth"? wtf? depth in voyager? what exactly about chakotay was "deep"/ we foound out he was NA. and ummm....
simpsonfan13 4 months ago
@simpsonfan13 still polling websites say voyager is better than ent.And enterprise characaters are flat and boring. My opinion.
godzillaisnuclea123 4 months ago
You just proved my point. Starfleet is so young they dont really know what to do in any situation. Captain Kirk, Picard, Janeway, and Sisco have the benifit of hundreds of years around. Archer and his crew only had 60ish. Really thik about it before you make bad accusations against a good crew. not only did they have little knowlege or experiance they also had the weight of starfleet on their shoulders and the Vulcans breathing down their necks. (See: Shockwave Parts I & II for examples.)

So "Enterprise" was really just a screwed up holodeck program? That makes me feel better to be honest. And given all the in continuities it does tend to show that the computer on 1701-D was having some problems.
Data will run a level one diagnostic to solve the problem.

why does everyone have a problem with ENTERPRISE? just cause it takes place Before kirk? Someone please give me ligitimate reasons!
TheComedylover92 4 months ago 3
@TheComedylover92 I'll give you three:
1) it screws up the continuity of the entire franchise
2) the plot of the episodes has little sense
3) the characters often behave like a-holes and they are more stuck up than the crew of the season 1 TNG
KuunLan87 4 months ago
@KuunLan87 All are ok but you have to look at the standpoint that this is before even the United Federation of Planets. they are still learning about the universe while as The crew of NCC-1701 already know alot about the universe.
TheComedylover92 4 months ago
@TheComedylover92 Fine and dandy, bro. But how can you defend, for example, their actions in "Dear Doctor"? Standing idly by, while an entire spicies dies out? Beacuse Flox thinks nature "intednded" for them to die? Or enciting a war between the Vulcans and the Andorians, beacuse Archer has a grude with the former? Granted, in ENT they seem to be nothing but pompus, self-righteous jerks. But that only shows how OFF the show is from what the rest of the franchise established.
KuunLan87 4 months ago
Wait...so all of Enterprise is non-canon?
Dorminay42 4 months ago
ok WTF is up with the size of the holodecks, they're just a lil bigger than an average bedroom. Even if the ground moved like a treadmill, its ridiculous they played baseball in one episode. How can u play baseball in a bedroom
mikedd56 4 months ago
@mikedd56 They use holograms.
Dorminay42 4 months ago
@mikedd56 the term holodeck has 2 meanings - its a generic term for where a number of holosuites are located (small holodeck rooms) for small private simulations (like the bar Riker creates to play his trombone) and then the main holodeck itself which takes up the entire deck for large simulations. ths way the entire crew isnt held up waiting for a single holodeck. here Riker and Troy are on the holodeck but in one of the holosuites.
Doug19752533 4 months ago
I never really liked Enterprise, but turning the last episode into a Next Generation holodeck wank-a-thon, and ending it RIGHT as Archer was about to enjoy his time in the sun was just fucking galling. I still can't believe they slapped the Enterprise cast and crew in the face like that. :(

There was a grim finality in the closing scenes, the end of an era. After 18 years it really was the end for Trek. I don't think we'll see another new series on TV for a generation. It's now 2011,and the world has moved on.Star Trek is not as relevant as it once was and will in time be regarded as another science fantasy series which attempted to predict the future.

who else think they should make a new star trek series so we can forget enterprise
raptorjesus142 4 months ago
@raptorjesus142 I said it when DS9 and Voyager were finishing up, and I'll say it again: Trek needs at least ten, preferably twenty years before they even think about another series. Give the viewers time to catch their breath, and time for Rick Berman to fly up his own arse.

To bad everything that happened on all the tv shows have now been nullified due to Old Spock changing the time continuum in the new movie! I would still like to see Pike's Voyages in the original time continuum. A lot of fans would like to see his voyages and what happened to his crew.

The ONLY good Scene of that Episode!
AFAIK, Trips' Death was retconned for the Novel-Series that continues the 'Enterprise' Storyline to include the Earth-Romulan War.
derworfnet 5 months ago 20
@derworfnet The Good That Men Do, then there's the Kobayashi Maru, and the last one that is out i think is The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor's Wing. Coming this month is the next book, To Brave the Storm. I'm in the process of reading the third one, I recommend it for anyone else if you like Enterprise
KarazhanIsCake 3 months ago
@derworfnet Watching this episode a few more times over the years, I've come to appreciate then non- dumbassed Shran storyline scenes. The scenes between Trip and Riker, where he talks about trust and where Trip and Malcolm are talking about how there'll be a new Enterprise one day, and that it won't matter if it's not the same are really poignant.
I think if the writers focused more on making this episode a tribute and ditched the Shran action sub plot we would've had a much better finale.
ezri85 3 months ago
@ezri85 Well, I think it's important to understand that Brannon and Bragga were pissed off and decided to spike the last few episodes once it was clear they weren't getting another shot. So you ended up with the unsatisfying storylines around Trip and T'Pol etc.
proadmin1 3 months ago
Enterprise was insanely underrated, the show had a very slow start (but all the shows had the same problem), when the show started to pick up some pace it was canceled. The final episode was a disaster, I'd love to know who had the idea of making the final episode of Enterprise a fucking holodeck simulation from a TNG episode that wasn't even that good.
The final episode should of been all about the start of the Romulan war.
CynicalVision 5 months ago 3
I know! People forget that the first couple of seasons of TNG stank to high heaven. Same for the others.
jimbopumbapigsticks 4 months ago
@CynicalVision I agree. The romulan war, would have stretched the series AT LEAST 2 seasons. And it should have been brutal, not like the dominion "war"
