  • PURE GENIUS OF AN ADVERT HAHA!

  • love it gabor

  • Everytime this came on the tv, I can remember calling my mum to see it

  • I've had this tune going round in my head all day.

Also anyone else notice the girl in the back looks just like Jemima Potts?? (Heather Ripley)

  • Road Tax?? there's not been Road tax in the Uk since 1937 when Winston Chruchill scrapped it.

It's Car Tax, but as Chitty was built back in the 1960's she's Tax Exempt.

Oh & the car that's trying to fly is NOT GEN11 as she has fibreglass wings.

It's GEN22 as she HAS the proper wings & propellors.

  • Not so ironic that the man in this commercial (Kris Kyer) playing Caracatus Potts will be playing Caracatus Potts in the "C. C. B. B." musical next month in Simi Valley, Ca!

  • Chitty is pre 1972 so tax is free.

  • We have a "road tax" here in Massachusetts also, but it's called "excise tax" and it's based on the value of your car. It's 25.00 per thousand dollars of value so a car valued at 20k would be 500.00. That's a check we have to give to Mass every March just for owning a car; we get nothing in return...it's a luxury tax when owning a car is no longer a luxury. It sucks!

  • Bastards.

  • lol

  • This is a good ad even if it is the DVLA bastards

  • whats a road tax?

  • @patrikthegreat It's an annual per-unit tax levied against automobiles. I live in Pennsylvania, and there isn't a road tax per se. There is a high fuel tax, though.

  • So, if a car could actually fly, would there be an air tax?

I don't get it: how does this tax work in the UK? Frequency of use of one's car?

I am preparing to live like I did pre-1990: without a car. It will be hard (I am 10 km from nearest stores), but to reduce my carbon footprint (I've been vegan for 30+ years) and to prepare for economic collapse due to unextractable oil, I may have to ride an adult tricycle.

  • I think this is hysterical. Abosolutely wonderful parody. Very well done!

  • Fascism may be wrapped in a RED flag with a clenched fist, but the American flag and cross have LIBERTY crowned upon their brow.

  • God I hate Socialism....we'll need to stand firm against it in America.

  • @Abbeysums - When Fascism Comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross. - Sinclair Lewis. At the start, in only looks like socialism, but America is the new fourth reich.

  • @puffrooster Fascism comes with a RED flag and a clenched fist, but the American flag and cross have LIBERTY crowned upon their brow. And Sinclair Lewis is just a dead guy.

  • @puffrooster Fascism comes with a RED flag and a clenched fist, but the American flag and cross have LIBERTY crowned upon their brow. Sinclair Lewis is just a dead guy.

  • @Abbeysums - Somebody here is suffering from EDS (extreme denial syndrome).

  • @puffrooster OR EDS as in Educationally Deprived Syndrome.

  • @Abbeysums - That is surely possible in the United States. I don't really care what happens in America but I watch the Daily Show on occasion and it seems that bankers, politicians, wall street, CNN, FOX, and a large list of many other people have a very low opinion of teachers and education in America. Eventually your country is gonna farm that industry out as well. Five years from now all your teachers will be Chinese, Mexican's and Spiks!

  • @puffrooster Anyone who gets their NEWS from The Daily Show is a real loser. And the future leaders of America will probably be HOMESCHOOLed thanks to the teaching profession being unionized. And those HOMESCHOOLed will be fine leaders indeed.

  • @Abbeysums - wow, you really are in denial; are you a government employee?

  • @puffrooster No, I'm not a government employee. Are you? lol.

  • @Abbeysums - Nope. You know that the biggest union subscribers in the USA are civic employess, right? Since there is now almost no manufacturing left in America, due in part to the unions and the extremely high corporate taxes, the unions needed somewhere to collect (their) dues. In order for (them) [govn't] to KEEP (their) salary at what it is, they have to take it from someplace else and those are the teachers. The USA is broke and your alderman isn't gonna give up his/her BMW for education.

  • this is probably the best advert ever!!!

  • The DVLA and the Police use the licence plate to check the database. The database indicates if a vehicle is TAXed (amount is variable based on emissions, engine size etc), MOTed (annual road worthy test), has insurance (a legal requirement) or is stolen.

  • haha... nice one... i love this car!

  • i swear cars this old dont need road tax..

  • They must have raised the taxes to pay for the copyright to use the CCBB song.

  • Can someone from the UK explain what a road tax is? If you have a license plate doesn't that mean you paid your fees to use the roads? So is this commercial supposed to make people pre pay for a road tax on special roads. Help out a stupid yank. In the meantime I'll do some research on this.

  • @vampov Road tax is something we have to pay every year to allow us to drive on the roads. If we don't pay it, then we will get in big trouble with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Association. Hope that helps :D

  • @vampov In the UK...you actually own the plate. You have to pay tax on using it every year, but they dont put stickers on them like we do.

  • go to KRIS KYER on youtube and see his actual audition for this advert!

  • I may have been mentioned already but, cars that old don't pay road tax!

  • @paulmorris7777 No they don't, they just used Chitty for the commercial. Brilliant! Everyone loves Chitty!

  • then they got raped in prison....

  • The irony is hysterical. The most amusing thing about this commercial is that the idiots who made it are too stupidly insensitive to understand that they have cast "their side" unambiguously in the role of the villains. Morons. If there must be tyrants may they all be so obviously inept.

  • @deepfriedsammich they are aware they are the bad guys and revel in it because they know ppl have to pay. cunts. steal as much as you can from the government i say. the bastards.

  • @deepfriedsammich Well no, I don't think so. I see it as they've flipped it around so the 'Good guys' were caught doing wrong and now they're the bad guys. It's just a bit of humour, and it works. But that's just me. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the people who made it are morons, idiots and stupidly insensitive. It's just an ad afterall.

  • @deepfriedsammich I don't live in England and don't deal with the same road tax rules but your observations of this advert are spot-on. It was very funny because Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang ALWAYS gets out of a bad situation. After the commercial fade-out, it wouldn't surprise me if a part of the car's frame spontaneously ejected itself, thus freeing the family and car from those dastardly road-tax goons.

  • @deepfriedsammich not only that, but the car was built before `73 and so is road tax exempt.

  • @deepfriedsammich spot on with the irony! :-)

  • @deepfriedsammich Yeah, I love the way they portray the tax camera guys as smug, grinning, megalomaniacs.

  • ... This is *creepy.*

  • WTF? UK has a road tax and photographs license plates to enforce it? I never knew this! Thanks, steveg5122!

  • you inspector is right

  • i have never seen the movie, but my friends were talking about it on the bus, so i just HAD to watch it!

  • PAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHHAHAHA :L

  • I love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but I hate taxes.

  • most authorities are so easy to violate, put it this way the government are the biggest crooks, they steal from an entire nation, fancy the dvla not noticing a 25 year old tax free car, thats why i like ripping them off tee hee... hats off to all tax dodgers and tax evaders you are the clever ones....if you dont cut the governments throat they sure as hell wont hesitate in cutting yours !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @keith4usa i am very much with you on this one but when labour got in in `97 they stopped the 25 year rolling rule.now it has to be built before `73,

  • Where's Angle-Grinder Man when you need him?

  • "No Escape" ?! CHITTY!

  • Muy bueno, y a Santi tb le gusta!

  • I can't help but wonder how much it cost them to make this commercial. Probably half of the revenue they'll be getting from the road tax...

  • How fabulous is this? Love it!

  • @XXxownedxXX1000 Yup, seconded. Very well done :-).

  • Some nice trumpet going on in this!

  • This is the best advert that I've ever seen.

  • LOL

  • to see the actual audition this ad for him, go to KRIS KYER on you tube and see his audition tape!!

  • what does he say at 0.29 i cant tell what he says

  • @yidow4life he says "the camera caught chitty on tape" took me ages to figure out what he said there.

  • does the original car still need road tax???

  • chitty :( you sold out to the man :(.

  • steampunk and still cute. i love it <3

  • Bloody hell, and I wanted to move there once upon a time. No way in hell I'll do anything more than visit now. Your lot are getting screwed worse than we are.

  • @blorgensteen

    You can never escape tax!

  • that was so funny my brother & i laugh so hard

  • go to KRIS KYER on youtube to see his actual audition for this commercial!!

  • I understand that the tax camera vehicle is a Ford Model T. Mind you, if anybody wanted to concentrate on historical accuracies, the early brass radiator version would be better.

  • Hey, the Child Catcher is in this video!

  • LOL Oh Chitty No Chitty nowhere you can go Chitty

  • WOW SO HOW MUCH IS THE ROAD TAX?

  • Miss that ad. I noticed anouther point. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang wouldn't have to Tax would be free as it is a Historic vehicle.

  • It may not need a road tax now but it's suppose to be in the early 1900's, look at the cops car and the way everybody dressed.

  • Yeah, but Chitty was made in the 1960's and thats how it would be Historic.

  • road tax water tax food tax cloths tax candy tax beer tax cigarette tax income tax umm.. how come if i went up to someone sitting on a seat in a train or bus and said hey i need... umm.. your space tax because you are in my space... and if they said no I demanded it.. I would go to jail.. but yet these other people can do it to me??? Well I declare people pay me a tax every time someone trys to make me pay them a tax... Lets get together and enforce this new tax law
  • youtube KRIS KYER to see his actual audition for this commercial as well as many other commercials and work he has been in!

  • @orangie84 Haha if you start offering the same services as the government then maybe you would have a case for taxing people. The government gives you the services of roads, education etc. You pay companies for their services, like the supermarkets for food. That my friend is why we have tax - the government can't fund all of these things with no money.

  • the dvla makes rode tax fun :)

  • LOL! "Bang Bang Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Our Road Tax Dodging Friend!"

  • UK -

£190 for a 1.8 litre car for a year in car tax

£1.07p a litre for for fuel

High insurance even for a driver with no claims for 10 years + ,

£110 parking permit a year to park outside my home.

£ 1,080 community charge a year (poll tax) (and not even a single free bin bag through my door)

£7 for a visitors parking permit for maximum 4 hours - am allowed a maximum of 6 only a year and two can't be used in the same day

i hate this theiving fucking scum country

  • I love this advert!! Sooo cool!!!

  • Chitty {and 007's Aston} are really pre 1972 vehicles, Thus they are TAX EXEMPT in real life!!

Cool adds but a blinding undersight!!

  • Bill O"Reily will have a great time taunting the british govt with this commercial, lol.

  • youtube: KRIS KYER for more work of his and his audition for this advert

  • will do

  • im sorry , that was so funny i think i peed myself

  • lol i remember this from a few years ago X3 funny

  • You drive you pay tax,you stop driving you stop paying tax,

  • You have to love conservative attitudes, though. They want all the services, but no taxes. Idiots.

  • the guy who played caracticus looks very familier

  • you tube: KRIS KYER for more of his work

  • Does no-one else find it creepy that the UK is taking pictures of every car as they go by and sending fines in the mail?

  • Creepy is not the word for it in the UK. The real words would get this post removed!

  • Road Tax? are sure this is not a California idea..California is so broke the lawmakers would tax oxygen if they could get away with it.

  • very good haha...i havent seen this on t.v though ?

  • lol good one

  • funny cm!

  • a model t ford in london? also they actually used the crel chitty chitty bang bang car neat!

  • All of these actors look very much like their movie counterparts, execpt for the boy...he is not blonde enough.

  • love this advert, its awesome.

  • check out KRIS KYER on youtube..his actual audition for this commercial!

  • He's a great look alike, still they could have had a voice actor do the Dick Van Dyke voice, in the tape he has to twist his face to get to something that is still not anywhere close to Dick's voice. But he really does look like Dick Van Dyke!

  • FUNNY...though doesn't this mean they also need to pay air tax?

  • Don't know - but I think Civil Aviation Authority might throw the book at the driver for having neither a Certificate of Airworthiness nor a pilot's licence.

  • As a vintage car it gets it free anyway, from the DVLA as I do for my 1955 Relic!

  • look at the child catcher at 0:40 to the far right

  • I knew it! Baron Bomburst and his Child Catcher were the originators of this vile road tax and the highway cameras!

  • HA HA HA!! I am in the States and it reminds me of the red light violation tickets we get here where a camera takes a pic of your license plate and they mail you the ticket for running a red light. It is so wrong but this is funny.

  • Comment removed

  • what a beautiful car.

  • wow.. that tune... i love that car.

  • Fantastic advert lol

  • wow. believe it or not but that little kid in the back of the car is me.

  • i love chitty chitty bang bang

  • This is a spit in the eye of everything Chitty Chitty Bang Bang represented. Individual Liberty, self-determination, the defiance of oppression.

Yes, the tune is familiar, but the lyrics are in the opposite spirit of the original song.

    And... Chitty LOSING?? Unthinkable!

  • Agreed - Chitty would escape and... it would be tax-exempt anyway!

  • i love this ad. it makes road tax seem interesting, when it really isnt :P.

    gd ad tho nonetheless.

  • I must have been watching the BBC a lot when this was on because I never saw it. When was it showing?

  • even though its fucking gay about road tax... it's an awesome advert none-the-less haha. 5 stars

  • Ok... So What exactly is a "Road Tax" I'm sure there's something similar here in the US, but we don't call it that. Is it like property tax or something? Are you refering to parking tickets?

  • road tax is like our registration. They have cameras in England that take pics of license plates..and if they aren't paid up they get the citation

  • go to KRIS KYER on you tube to see his actual audition for this spot.

  • Great DVLA stuffed themselves with this one Chitty is Tax Exempt

  • lol

  • BRILLIANT

  • 0:27 makes me laugh

  • well thought of?

  • Search KRIS KYER on you tube to see his actual audition for this Bristish commercial!!

  • WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!!!!!!

  • Chitty doesn't need road tax, as it is older than 25 years old! :P

(didn't think about that did they!)

  • you didn;t get the fun of the commercial...pity

  • that reply is for iNSPECTORBLAKEY

  • you haven;t picked up the irony of the use of chitty and road tax....always said americans had no sense of irony....

  • THAT is the FUN of the spot...always said you guys had no sense

  • Yep. Chitty (and all UK cars built before January 1973) ARE exempt. :D

  • i know i know...it's called artistic license. and do you really think CHITTY is a real world?? lighten up and enjoy the fantasy of it all.....

  • Then I'll just watch the movie, thanks.

  • @InspectorBlakey artistic license silly...

  • Beautiful commercial!

My home state of Pennsylvania uses validation stickers on our license plates, as do many U.S. states. They are valid for a one-year period, but you can get them as long as six months before expiration.

I'm going this morning to get my 2-10 stickers - Pennsylvania's "road tax", as you call it, is only 36 bucks per year for any passenger car.

For you Brits, that's about 21 quid as of October 2008.

  • search KRIS KYER on youtube to his actual audition for this commercial, and more work of his

  • i love this advert, made me actually LOL when i first saw it. makes me proud to be British lol

  • *his car crush its self

  • This was one of the best road tax adverts unlike simple ones such as a bloke with his girlfriend seeing his crush its self :)

  • Brilliant!

  • In the ny area those cameras take a pic of your plate if u run a red light

  • i remember this on TV in my Country

  • I just found the Kris Kyer audition for this commercial -- LOL, can see why they chose him for this part!!! However, that song, now I can't get it out of my head!

  • Kris Kyer is my cousin. His real name is Kristopher Antekeier. He was also the ringmaster of Barnum and Baily Circus for a couple years.

  • search "KRIS KYER" on youtube for more work

  • LOL THAT IS DEAD FUNNY!!!! XD

  • That looked like a real Chitty.

  • it is!!

  • Is it an old commercial? Like from when the movie was made?

  • no, they used the car from the film, flew it two Australia and shot this commercial 4 years ago to make it look exactly like the film from the 1960's!

  • Thanks, That is totally interesting. They did a awesome job on the commercial. It looked just like a scene form the movie. Even the characters looked close. I always loved that car, Herbie is cool too.

  • lol

  • compleat shit

  • i love this vid so funny

  • I discovered other work by the actor playing in this commercial! Search KRIS KYER on Youtube. You can see his actual audition for this ad as well as many other ads he has been in!!

  • nice commercial. i think the road tax camera and car have a nice retro design.^^

  • Great video. Sadly under Gordon Brown's new stealth tax proposals, Chitty can expect a large rise in road tax, applied retrospectively to older cars. Still, it's good to know they won't waste the money repairing pot-holes. They'll build more speed humps instead!

  • i searched "KRIS KYER" on you tube to see the actor's actual audition to land this advert!

  • why don't we see such creativity in america?

  • brilliant

  • brilliant advert
