With all due respect, Australian native spirituality can be summarized as ecological thinking via training stories and mythic rituals.
It's inaccurate to call this "respect for life"; rather, it is adaption to nature, a complete submission to the tyranny of the local ecology. "Respect" here is a slogan for the utter dominance of nature over human culture.
The dreaming in this context seems to refer to a relaxed alpha state of consciousness in which people are easily trainable.
