This is the one song I will listen to when feeling down, when I have a lot on my mind, when I am doubting myself, hating myself, and wanting nothing to do with myself. Thank you Bon Iver, I love you, and I am glad you are on my iPod and in my ears.
@CcAgan83 Well yeah, but by "what was that?" I meant what in the world was he trying to play with it, because it sounded a lot more like noise than music.
Actually another thing, which is kind of off topic but kind of on topic to my other comment. It's just like Lana Del Rey. Pitchfork raves about this girl 6 months ago and makes her what she is. Hear all this good shit from people about how she's amazing. Then all of a sudden they destroy what they made by trashing her album. Now everyone hates her. Just trying to deliver a point. I love LCD SOUNDSYSTEM.
@blablabla1196 Yea, but...Lana Del Rey was never really good, IMO. She's got this whole pseudo-deep thing. Her lyrics are pretty vapid, and frankly her voice isn't THAT great. If you read Pitchfork's review of Born to Die, they do have a good point about the whole over sexualized/sexist vibe of her sound and image. This is music that has staying power...Lana Del Rey's popularity won't last, as you said. Bon Iver's been riding the wave since about 2007.
@blablabla1196 hahaha, do you seriously think a single organisation such as Pitchfork has the ability to make or break a career? perhaps they talk so highly of artists such as Bon Iver and Lana Del Rey because they are pure, untamed lyricists who produce a sound passionate, emotional and inspiringly unique?
@winterrstreet No of course not. Loads of bands have bad ratings on Pitchfork but are doing extremely well. That's not my point. It's not the effect that Pitchfork has on bands. It's the effect it has on people. Pitchfork makes and breaks opinions of the audience. Maybe not EVERYONE. But most of the time it's a pretty big chunk.
This shit sounds like a fuckin soundtrack from a Drama series. People score shit like this in films every year. I bought this guys album and it was a fuckin disappointment for the amount of talk this band gets. The lyrics aren't bad, some of it's really good. But not amazing. Pitchfork basically rated this shit as good as Arcade Fire's "Funeral". Fuckin stupid. Yes, I'm hating on this, and voicing my opinion, because this is just an example of how Pitchfork owns almost everyones opinion.
In some way this concept makes me think of Arcade Fire: they are too, more a orchestra than a band. However, I never got myself to really like them, because of their limited vocal abilities. Music is in every way, an art made for the ear.
I love how eclectic his line up is. as it should be, not based on looks just talent. for me the band made this performance amazing. he can't carry this song without those amazing backup singers.
lame..

Thing I've found about Bon Iver is that the music makes you cry even when you don't know the lyrics.

@Bwadify
Note at 3:45 the sax's reaction to how he sings the lyric. Clearly even he is moved by the feeling and originality. Pure genius.

@crumbings I can't hear what you mean at 3:45.

@Bwadify It's the look on the sax's face...no sound....just the look when Justin sings the lyric...
