It always pleases me to hear this. The way I feel when I hear it tells me this was written by my relative or something, and there it is boom- Felix Arndt Dennis Arndt
Thanks for this video. I love this tune, because it was a favorite of one of the greatest mandolin players Jethro Burns. It is very interesting for me to listen to this historical recording.
Spumpkins33, That's one of the other versions I have-the Les Paul Mary Ford Capitol-It is neat, but I do love this recording. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks.
This song has followed me around all my life, as my name is Nola. My piano teacher made me play it...I hated that! And here I am much older now, and I like the song now! It's actually pretty...thanks for posting this!
Nola, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. It is a lovely tune. I can understand your feelings about it when you were a child learning to play it. I see you have a nice little collection of 'Nolas' going, well stay tuned, I'll be adding two more at some point in the future. :-)
Highly recommended reading: Nathaniel Shilkret: Sixty Years in the Music Business (Hardcover). In these autobiographical writings, one of the twentieth century's most influential musicians describes his own life and relates anecdotes of his dealings with such notable figures as George Gershwin, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Fats Waller.

Most likely Milt Rettenberg playing piano and Lou Raderman playing the violin.

Great stuff. This tune is frequently used as Photoplay music, but I never knew the name of it before. Terrific and versatile melody.

I've finally found 'Nola'!
It makes practicing the song much easier, knowing what it sounds like.

Once more the ubicuous and versatile Shilkret is great.

I agree, Shilkret is under-appreciated today. There's more to the twenties than just Jazz. ;-) Regards, J.
