  • Actually for me this sight is not rare. I live next to an old UP branch in the SF Bay Area in CA and they use a lot of odd but cool power including GP38-2, GP40-2, SD40-2, SW1500, MP15 (AC&DC), GP15, GP35s the ocassional ES44DC all mostly in leasing or patched MP, SP or DRGW schemes.

  • Wow alot of rare engines!!

  • gotta love the nathan p3's though

  • What kind of editing software do YOU use? No way you saw ALL of those engines in one day! jk. Sweet videos. Sweet luck

  • Neat video, That United Way unit is really neat looking

  • @railrdr523 They are not rare. The SP is a junker. The switchers are shuttled from Council Bluffs or Des Moines to the shop in Proviso and back. The CNW GE was on the circuit between Itasca and Proviso, Council Bluffs and Proviso, and Des Moines Proviso for quite some time. Same goes with the United Way unit, miserable thing that it is.

Lastly, grow up kid. I did nothing to deserve the kind of language you directed towards me.

  • Rare? How was that rare?

  • @otef434 You just don't see them every day, some of these engines have been re-painted or taken off the UP system from the looks of it.

  • UP 3356 went through Rochelle on June 20,2006 as the 3rd locomotive on a freight train behind UP 3071 and 3072.

  • HOLLY CRAP! that was an SD40-2 long nose on the first consist! dont see that verry often.

  • southern pacific isn't "rare"

  • What typeof engine was that in the front? No 9094?

  • I hate when people grafitti locos. leave that to the freight cars.

  • Oh budget cuts

  • Oh,budget cuts these days.

  • Is that a shunter on the main line?!

  • Is that a switcher?

  • I am sorry, what was so rare about those units? They go through all the time heading to Proviso shop.

And since I am a UP hogger, I know for a fact that we do not use rope to put together locomotives, we use the knuckles. Why would anyone call it lashed up if they do not use rope?

  • luck was truly on your side that day!

  • sick lashups!

  • Nice shot of the unpatched CNW unit! Wish I could see one of those!

  • wow ! nice to see that UP supports United Way Foundation with such an awesome paint scheme !!!!!!!! =)

  • lot of P5

  • its wierd to see the sw-1500's amd mp-15's called rare power, I use them almost every day in the Alton and Southern Yard! We get all kinds of cool power through there though. The western pacific engine the Katy. We even have the upy 1486 which is still painted in the so-pac colors!

  • is the train at 0:32 a train that ships metal ore anywhere? also, what is that rust colored car supposed to be at 0:44?

  • you dont see the 1500's very much anymore

  • This is rare? I always see this kind of train go by. Never knew it was special. Leave it to someone who has lived here their entire life to not realize what they have. :P

  • nice catches

  • Nice catch on them all but mainly on the United Way and the dump train. Did UP retire the United Way unit yet or is it still running or what?

  • does that 45 still have the 645 prime mover or did UP repower them all?

  • U BARELY ever see a SD70M with a switcher engine lol

  • Because they hate UP! Gotta get some taggers together and repaint all the SD40T-2's back into SP colors like God intended them to look.... UP can suck it!!!!!

  • why people paint on trains

  • @skateboy159 moving art show:) lots of people see it

  • What happend to SW 1200/1500s and SD40-2 units? dont see those operate as often as used to

  • yes, it was a SD45

  • was the ex-sp #2741 an sd45 cause it looks like one

  • Great Video!!!!

  • Amazing!

  • Long live UP #3300 :(

  • what happened to it?

  • AWESOME VIDEO!

    5/5

  • I remember the United Way SD40-2!!

those SD40-2's are quite rare nowadays

  • omfg, you got an SW & one of the twin on one train, and another SW, Nice SP, lot of power on the train, and the united way. so up retired it? why is what i wonder. lol adam, nice

  • lucky s.o.b.!! hahaha

  • very nice footage, i love the SP and United Way!

  • love the P3's, the second p3 is a horn that you can download for MSTS.

And good job catching all of those Switchers and the united way engine

  • I like the GE with the narrow nose at the beginning of the video, I rarely see those!

  • wow...that dash 9 sure was sending alot of command air bursts to the up switcher!!!!maybee it was confused as to what it was lashed to!!!!! really rare double header^^

  • That was an SD70M. And it isnt command air shots, its an Air drier to keep moisture out of the main resivour and airlines.

  • Holy smokes! Those are rare loco's

  • damn what a day!!!

  • Talk about Quite a day!

  • 0:24 p3 horn.

  • 1040 needs a paint job!!

  • Its always good to see stuff like this! It's not every day you see a CNW Dash 9 and a UP switcher in the same consist. For the UP united Way. That was an awesome catch!

  • i had a good day to day so far out front of my house on a cn line i caught a bnsf warbonnet with a gtw check it on my channel main vid

  • I think I saw a couple SW1500's in there! Good Job! :D 5 Stars.

  • you should of stayed longer. one of the torch unit's came through right after you left.

  • damn, I hate it when that happens!

  • IS-THAT-UNITED-WAY-STILL-IN-ITS-PAINT-OR-IS-IT-STILL-RUNNING

  • @railfan95 Awhile back, I saw the torch units and the UP-Katy heritage with a UP trio lashup pulling a stack train. Seen some SP AC4400CWs still with the triple-digits and original flashing ditch lights and there's some SP and DRGW locos around West Colton yard and L.A. with the "UPY" tags; they're been regulated to local drags and switching.

  • What is that second con-joined train called/do?

  • That is a rock train, hauls a UP's ballast.

  • @ic6071 It's a Georgetown rock train to be specific.

  • Is there any particular reason why the articulated cars aren't all the same color?

  • GOSTEI. TENHO ALGUNS FILMES (MOVIE) DE TRENS NO YOUTUBE. PARA ASSISTI-LOS É SÓ DIGITAR TREM e FARINA. OBRIGADO.

  • man that must of been so awesome to see! great catches!!! 5 stars all the way!!

  • It was. Thanks!

  • The ex SP unit is an SD40M-2. In the mid 1990's Morrison Knudson now Motive Power Industries in Boise Idaho rebuilt SD45's, SDP45's, and SD40's into SD40-2 standards. They retain their original appearances. None of these were owned by the SP prior to being rebuilt.

  • great job 5 stars

  • Thanks!

  • WOW! AMAZING RARE CATCHES!

  • LOL that car would to be a gray hyundai accent would it if it is thats me :)

  • ah okay Thank you

  • good catches! btw, what was the 2nd train?

  • thanks, that is the UP ballast train. I think it is going to the WSOR to be filled at Rock Springs Wi.

  • yea i have been to rochelle too. it is a very good train spot but some days can be slow(not any trains)

  • if you got any Questions about Rochelle ask me Iv lived here all my life.

  • I was there that day.I was wearing the C&NW steam shirt if you remeber IC.

  • This was on my B-day

  • U SHOULD OF VIDEO THE DIAMOND

  • but everyone does that

  • That's gotta be super rare to use switchers as road engines.

  • must be a equipment move from one yard to another

  • I'd agree.

  • i've saw NS do it last month(dec.) in one of their trains, two NS dash 9s and, a MP15AC

  • I've just personally never seen it except here. Apparently does happen, though.

  • alot of wierd shit gos threw our town.I saw the challenger go threw ounce

  • damn your lucky. I was in Rochelle a few weeks ago and I saw a welders train go buy. That was almost worth the trip and about a year ago I saw United Way go through.

  • I know! I've been there at times and it can be really boring watching the UP go by left and right, but not on this trip!

  • A couple of weeks ago I saw a train that I thought was kind of cool. I was in champaign working one night and then I saw a train coming it was 2 GTW's in the lead and 2 switchers behind the 2 GTW...I thought that was impressive...and it kind of is

  • Looked out of control, wish I would have been there to experience this. I probably would have freaked out.

  • you sure did pick the right day to go there

  • I so wish I had been there

  • The second train with a brand new SD 70M-2 and a grafitti piece of shit MP 15 DC is a crime.

  • i live in rochelle

  • I can just kick myself for not going here yet.

  • Nice! I think that's the same conveyor ballast train (with the switcher attached behind the lead power) that I saw in McFarland, WI on August 7!

  • nice!

  • the first switcher looks like an mp-15

  • thanks for the cool video.

  • Love the USA colored engine!!! Nice vid!!!

  • Thanks!!

  • Darn, I was going to go yesterday to either here or West Chicago but decided not to due to the bad weather.

  • You forgot to mention the Dash 8 engine as a rare engine because UP is eliminating those from there roster one by one.

  • Ha, so that first lash-up, was the real money lash-up then!

  • I like that P3 on the lead unit. Very nice catch(s).

  • Thanks!

  • Great job catching all those units. I am thinking that those SW's are going to the junk heap in Chicago.Probably. I don't know. Nice video!

  • Thanks!

  • Awsome catch well catchs I mean a CNW a SP that weird looking thing and the united way engin. Keep up the good work.

  • Yea, and we were only there for about 2 and a half hours! Earlier in the day, the UP/GE demo unit came through, but we missed it. Thanks!

  • Nice to see some odd stuff! NICE!

  • Yes it was! Thanks!

  • Lots of rare engines on 1 day , great job !!
