  • The Twelve Apostles are on Burley Moor, not Ilkley Moor. Burley in Wharfedale is beside Burley Moor not Ilkley Moor. Both Moors are small parts of the larger Moor - Rombalds Moor. I do wish people would spend a little time getting their facts right. As to the circle being ancient I only wish it were. Many of the stones were brought from other parts of the Moor in the past 40 years.

  • Fabulous...shame on the authorities for gross neglect of such an ancient, sacred place...and I wonder what happened to the center stone? This monolith should be protected and given its due and rightful recognition just as they have done for many others scattered over Britain and Ireland.

  • Hi Mark - If you wanna know the real history, folklore & archaeology of Ilkley Moor and district, you should check this out 'The Northern Antiquarian' - and if there's owt you wanna know about that entire upland region, ask the fella. It's in his very bones!

  • Thanks for this video mate, excellent info!

  • went up there again this week end ufo watching,we got a couple shoots of some strange beings in the rocks

  • There are lizards on the moor; near Boroughbridge, home of the Devil's Arrows are (n)adders. Also is All Parish Church, the 3 stones, the plaque to the Goddess Verbeia, the Saxon Cross and the replica.Outside is the remains of a Roman Garison, the Lingones from France, where a similar plaque to V. has been found near Dijon. The Wharfe('to turn') and Cock Rivers, sacred to the great Goddess Brigid from Elmet's involvement in Towton, the bloodiest Battle to be fought on British soil, are also there.Great!

  • Lol i did cross country running with my school there (at the intro)

  • Yes it's Menwith Hill and if you drive over there the Police will stop you and check you. They did me. They hide in lay by's and hedges - lots of them.

Yes Fylingdales is in East Yorkshire on the way to Whitby

Fylingdales is Brit and Menwith Hill is American.

Ilkley moor is great and I used to shoot at Ikley Rifle Club. Its 85 degrees and 15% humidity and 8 inches rain pa where I live now. Can't feed the ducks though.

    THANK you :)

  • my ass --- its so dirty!

  • Rombalds Moor is only a small part of Ilkley moor.

  • used to be known as Fylingdales - before there were quite so many of them!!

  • Fylingdales it near Whitby lol

  • 12 apostles aint on ilkley moor.

  • The circle is more like 4000 years old. It's bronze age rather than iron age. There are 4 possibly 5 circles on and around the moor, although 2 may be cairns with most of the stone robbed away. 12 apostles is the most obvious as someone stood the stones back up within the last 100 years. Apparently used to be 20 stones. At least 10 carved stones up there also. One looks like a cat (strange, cats in Britain 4000 years ago?). The swastika stone is protected by iron railings.

  • cool

  • nice post

  • Perhaps it's for the best that it doesn't have a visitor's center and a carpark? This way, it is preserved and unspoiled...

  • cool video, dint know men with hill was so close to Ilkley moor
