  • Great video

Please if you may let us know, how to do it through WAN

    From anywhere outside our LAN

    Thanks a lot

  • Thank you. because you have virtual win7 it will going to be easy by writing the IP address but if the other computer is in deferment place How can we do it?

  • @emadcool To access a computer in a remote network. you need to to go the router of the remote network and forward port 3389 to the computer. Then when you specify the public IP Address for the remote router, the remote router will forward the remote desktop request to the internal computer in the remote network.

  • When I'm looking at the system properties window, It only gives me to option to have remote assistance; there isn't anything below it that says remote desktop.

  • @adamsvette that's because you have either the "Home Premium" or "Basic" version of Windows.

  • @technoblogical - Mine is the same, does that mean that I will not be able to use this to access an XP desktop? I am looking to access my boyfriends mother's XP desktop when she needs help and was looking to use remote access.

  • @danielle1323 You will be able to access a XP Pro desktop no problem. No one can access your desktop. If you are trying to access an XP Home or MCE desktop, it won't work either. I have a video on UltraVNC and ShowMyPC that would be better. When you do remote desktop, it actually locks the other person out of the computer. Can't help to learn if she can't see.

  • How do you make it so multiple accounts can log in at the same time and use the computer with their own desktop?

  • when i was go to remote desktop connection and i enter my ip 192.168.15.7 and i was click connect then he says ''Your Computer could not connect to another session on the remote computer because you already have a console session in progress''

    Please Help Me

  • ONLY 1 DAY LEFT TO ACTIVATE WINDOWS!!! OOOHHH NOOOO!!! XD

  • what is window remote for?

  • any idea how to access the remote desktop over the internet i go to my buddys place and we play games so i start the server befor i leave with what ever game running the server but i cant figure out how to access remote desktop from his place works fine over lan i tryed entering my modem ip in the remote conection thing and no go any ideas would help thanks

  • @danalpatt You need to forward port 3389 on your wireless router. Or whatever device you have that connects to the Internet.

  • @technoblogical ok thanks works like a charm i remember seeing that when i installed it but forgot all about it thanks allot dude

  • @technoblogical Can you Remote Desktop to more than one computer behind your router?

  • @rasmasyean Your router is only going to forward port 3389 to one computer. You need to use a different port for each machine. You can change the default port number for each machine. Then forward the new port numbers to the new machines. (Or run a much more complex home network.) Here is a video on how to change your RDP port. youtube dot com/watch?v=JEdgZuhRIck

  • i dont have any options im using windows 7 home premium

  • how do i get it to work on windows 7 home premium. because i dont get these options at the start.

  • thank you very much ... i really really love it :))

  • nice tutorial. thx a lot ...................

  • You were all over the place, try again.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks a lot. Your advice helped me out.

  • I cant chose what connections can get to me, like.... 2:57 I don t have the bottom tab there, only the top one, so I can t set users or anything.... Any ideas ? Tx

  • Why do I not have the bottom half of the Remote settings portion of the window? Do I need to download something?

  • @MOUNTAINxMAN I'm having the same problem, anyone?

  • @PolloGuap0 We need to get Windows 7 Pro or something similar to have that feature. I also hear using a program called LogMeIn will work with the app for remote control.

  • Teamviewer works with all versions of windows

    XP vista 7

    Mac osx

and Linux so YEAH take that you Windows RDP using fools

  • awesome. worked like a charm

  • Thank you finally figured this thing out

  • can i use that ...remote desktop..to remote other computer from other country

  • @jpsautube If you can ping it, you can remote desktop it.

  • Dude, remember to activate your windows ;)

  • FINALLY A WORKING TUTORIAL!! THANKS BRO !!.. but can i do like sharing THE SAME dekstop? u know like team viewer?

  • @MultiNikko123 No, UltraVNC, Remote Assistance, Team Viewer, etc is for that stuff. When you remote desktop, only one person is allowed to see the desktop.

  • Do you know anything about Direct X Remoting? I think they were talking about that when making Windows 7. Is this what this new one is based of? Or is there another remote desktop that invovled Direct X remoting?

  • @rasmasyean This is the same remote desktop. Though I've never really compared how different the graphics are between the versions. I just always thought it was just "built in."

  • i dont have the remote desktop under remote assist

  • is not more easy to use teamviewer?

  • @Pparapa Remote Desktop comes with many copies of Windows. TeamViewer is supposed to be licensed if you are using it as a business. So that involves convincing the boss to pay more money for TeamViewer.

  • @Pparapa as slow as fuck.

  • do you smoke drugs there? why its so slowely?!

  • u do know u gave away your ip address

  • @JakobSkull It's my private IP Address. Not a big deal. Besides, even if you knew my public IP Address, I'm not too worried. Most of my ports are closed, and I'm not really worth anything if you hacked me.

  • @JakobSkull

    internal m8, ur a turd

  • @JakobSkull lol u dumb :D

  • @tekknorat harsh dude you do know i am 11

  • this video confused me beyond belief

  • Im sorry, but i dont have those options below "remote Desktop" ?

  • Did only worked for win7 to win Xp but not the other way :S

I uppdated the win Xp remote control, so now i hawe the same versjon as windows 7

but still I want it to work the other way.....

    Help? thx :)

    Used Windows 7 Home Premium

    and windows Xp Proffesional Sp3

  • @oystein1995 Windows 7 HP does not accept remote desktop connections by design.

  • Thanks for the inform it worked just like you said it would.

  • how do i get to the 3 remote desktop options under remote settings?

  • Do you need a server for this i just have a bt home hub its a router will that work ?

  • If I was at a hotel across the country, could I do this same thing from a different Win 7 computer to connect to my desktop at home?

  • @SkunknOwl You must forward port 3389 on your router, if you have one, but yes, you can.

  • @technoblogical

How do I forward a port? I know how to access my router and its settings and all.

  • @SkunknOwl Somewhere on it's configuration it probably mentions ports. On my Linksys it's listed under gaming. Port forward 3389 to your computer's IP Address. It would be also a good idea put your computer on a static IP Address. You could set up a DMZ which forwards all ports to one IP Address. Do either one, then put your public IP Address into your remote desktop console to access your computer. You can find your public IP via the website IPChicken.

  • VIRTUAL MACHINE FTW!!!

  • @Scientia96 If you wish to connect to more than one computer on your LAN, while on your LAN, that is not a problem. My simple Linksys router only allows external port 3389 to be forwarded to one local machine. Once that port is claimed, I can not forward it to another machine. I regedit the RDP on the others so I can specify machine by port Number. It could also solved by a domain and static routes/DNS forwarders. This might be solved more simply through Team Viewer? Or some other software.

  • Thanks. How would you do it over WAN. when I use it outside of my network, it can't find my PC and I am using the external ip address.

  • @trinhk You need to configure your router to forward port number 3389. Then when the RDP signal (Port 3389) shows up, it'll go directly to your computer. Only valid for one computer at a time.

  • vista prem as well

  • oh also this works works away from your home network, but you have to get your server's external ip address (mine is like 72.123.532.321) so not a 192.168 type of deal

  • if anyone can answer this, is there any reason a person who is not a computer technician, nerd or what ever, why someone would want two operating systems on their computer.?

  • what is this port and i have win 7 and xp both are allowed but xp no pw

  • It helped! THANK YOU! For god sakes.

  • will you decipher the OnyxCode ...

  • i get to the part where your at 30 seconds and i have the top part Remote Assistance but not the stuff under it for Remote Desktop. im running windows 7 64 bit please help

  • @lotsofstuff7 You need Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate not Home Premium. You'll need to try something else like UltraVNC. Your computer will not accept remote desktop connections.

  • @technoblogical Hey, im thinking of upgrading to windows 7, (currently using XP) i usually use remote desktop connection to connect to the network at my school from home. My school's computers all use windows xp though.. will i have a problem using windows 7 connecting to my school's network because i am using different OS? or will it still work?

  • @ibanez0830 It'll work. It'll just ask if you are certain that you want to connect to an older version of Windows.

  • @ibanez0830 It should work if it's a Windows 7 Professional Ed PC connecting to Windows XP Professional PC. The Home Editions and anything under don't have the feature. I know because in our company, we access our workdesks (which have Win 7 Enterprise Ed) from computers in the training basement which only have XP Prof Ed.

  • @technoblogical

Its not enabled by default but you can use RDP on Home Premium, just google enable rdp on home premium

  • does it work if one computer doesn't have internet

  • @linkbox135 It doesn't need internet, but you do need a network between the two computers. A crossover cable between them would work. You can't really be "remote" without a network of some kind.

  • Something's wrong with your Windows 7 edition. I got different options and menus.

  • i follow thoroughly ur video but when i starting to connect after providing the password of remote user name the message on screen goes like this--"the user's password must be change before logging on the first time" there's an option below that messages- OK or Cancel..then i selected the Ok-after giving a new password-then another message appeared "Access is Denied"..what happen to my computer remoting? pls help me..

  • Thanks for the help!!!☺

  • Does this work with two computers that are located in different countries (same OS though)?

  • @seyoumfasil Yes, but it gets a lot more complex. On the network with the computer you are trying to access, you need to enable port forwarding on 3389. Then with the computer you are using, you need to type the public IP Address of that network to access that computer. You should also give that computer a static IP Address. Because if you turn it on tomorrow, and it gets a different IP Address, you have to set it up all over again.

  • Excellent tutorial. Thanks it has been a massive help !

  • @MrThebigowner Not all features are available on home. You can use a home machine to access other machines. You can't access a home machine remotely.

  • THIS IS NOT OVER WAN

  • @exile341 Correct. WAN requires port 3389 on your NAT server to forward to your computers IP Address. Also it would be a good idea to give your Windows 7 machine a static IP address or a DHCP reservation so that it stays in one spot in the DHCP scope. It does you no good to forward port 3389 to an IP address when that machine's IP address changes tomorrow.

  • @technoblogical I got it to work. However, I realized that this wouldn't work on my school's network, i don't have access to the router.

  • a faster way, get teamviewer

  • Thanks this kind of filled in some of the steps I was missing on getting the connection to work. So I've definitely learnt something, top man!

  • Great tutorial, I have two computers in my livingroom, 1. is sitting under my TV (media centre I built) 2. main system both are using Windows 7 - I would like to be able to easily control the mouse and keyboard of the other system over LAN network is this possible? for example like remote assistance over windows live messenger if you were to help somebody? but i wish to do this over LAN.

  • @digitalmonkeynuts Remote Desktop will lock out any local users. I'm not sure which is the "other system" but if the "other system" is the media center, that means you can't watch videos on the big screen while you remote desktop into it.

Either way, UltraVNC will work well for what you are describing.

  • @technoblogical thanks for the reply, i`ll try UltraVNC

  • thank you

    you are soo helpfull

  • in my programs and features i have a blank program that is called "Windows Live Mesh ActiveX Control for Remote Connections" i was just wondering it was ok to uninstall

i mean will it screw anything up

  • @AngelsFury69 I know Windows LIve Mesh. It allows you to synchronize files between several computers. I'm not certain if they are using active X for that. Do you synch files between your machines? Do you remember installing it? Do you ever use it? If you answered no to these questions, I'd wager you can remove it. However, I don't know. I can tell you it isn't on my machine, but I also never installed Live Essentials on my computer It may have come with that. You can re-install it.if needed.

  • @technoblogical ok thanks a lot for the info, really helped

  • can u do this from 2 different computers on the same network?

ex: i got my laptop in my bedroom and my desktop upstairs .can i use my laptop to control my desktop? they are win7 and win vista

  • @TheXtremepr0duction Yes, as long as the machines are Windows Vista/7 Ultimate or Windows Vista/7 Enterprise. If you have Windows Home Premium, then you need to use something like UltraVNC.

  • is internet required to use remote access desktop? does it cause virus ?

  • @hardnocks24 No, you can do in on the local network.

And probably not. If you choose to let the remote machine to access local resources or access an older version of RD you get a warning.

  • yeah..it would be easier if i have the win7 pro & ultimate to do this kind of stuff but anyway, i enjoying you video here and certainly would be good as an IT we can always exchange knowledge. Keep it up man!

  • can you show me how? you probably aware Systems Properties, Member of is grey out on the Domain. Meanwhile, on my Server 2008 machine, I created DNS A name but I just couldn't control Win7home. Meaning, GPO and so on. I couldn't even get RDP to work either unless my XP Pro machine, that's it. So if you have any instructional or even your own video in Youtube, I would definitely want to know...

  • @adatau Ah, sorry. I was mistaken. I thought you meant to remote from your Win7 into your 2008 machine. You mean use 2008 to remote into your Win7 machine. You are correct in the fact that none of that works.

  • @technoblogical You have no RAM 0:13

  • do you know to workaround to RDP on windows 7 home edition to server 2008?

  • @adatau That should work. I do that all the time. You just can't access your 7 machine remotely.

  • what I dont understand why did microsoft sort this problem out,im trying to get program to work it omes up saying the desktop needs to be enabled Microsoft get enough money for there windows they cant even do that, microsoft are just fucked up

  • its grt

  • its grt

  • how can i remote my desktop on my home when i am in my office...

i am using win7 ultimate on both my pc...

  • im using win 7 ultimate and i want to remote it with my vista how do i do?

  • thanks , real good explanation work the first time with 7

  • Stop rambling about other systems and talk about 7 dammit

  • I'm running windows 7, but in the remote tab of my computer settings... it only shows Remote Assistance, and not Remote Desktop below it... why?

  • @itzbriantea You probably have Windows 7 Home Premium which does not come with Remote Desktop capability. If this is true, you'd be better served with VNC.

  • @technoblogical but i have windows home premium and mine came with remote desktop

  • @technoblogical yep it definitely is, thanks for the quick reply man.

  • @itzbriantea lol it is a desk top

  • great video. thanks

  • Hi, i´m using Win 7 ultimate, so i want to use remote access. I use Closed Circuit Television. I can to establish remote access but when i get it, i have no image of the cameras but i can access everything else. Thanks if you know why..

  • @jgcastel Remote Desktop doesn't have a very high screen refresh rate. I've noticed flash doesn't work very well through remote desktop. You are likely having a similar problem. It's also a problem with VNC.

  • nice vide!!!! works perfectly :) thx

  • i was just using this video to explain amyy admin isnt really remote desktop. this is awesome on 2 quad core processors lol

  • can i ask you a question if my pc is connected to my router and a other pc is connected to my router can i put my ip adress to connect him??

  • @aggelos163 If they are on the same network, then it is not a problem.

  • can the person on the computer being ctrled see what you are doing?

  • @MikeDole1 No. If that is what you want, you should check out Remote Assistance or VNC. When you remote desktop into a Windows 7 machine, it locks out all local users. I have videos for other programs as well.

  • i need to make a remote connection,,, do i have to make a dyndns account so that i could inout the hostname instead of the public ip address...and the port forwarding isnt it port 3390 for windows vista and windows 7??? please feed back on me and also do i have to make a new connection??? on the network properties??? arjay_malonosan@yahoo.com

  • @arjay101982 Yes, you can use DYNDNS so that you don't have to memorize your public IP. You need to port forward port 3389. I would suggest that if you are using a router, then you give your desktop a static IP. Then port forward 3389, to that static IP. If you do not have a router and your computer is directly connected to the Net, you do not need to port forward. You do not need a new connection on network properties.

  • 2 ways you can remote desktop this method or the easy method via messenger

  • @jeenormus The easy way via messenger is remote assistance

  • I've been wanting to use Remote Desktop to show my family members how to do things on the computer, but both parties can't see the desktop. Is there a way to make it so that the desktop displays on both my computer and the family room computer without interrupting the connection?

  • @RobertDevious Check out my UltraVNC video

  • Is this only in the local network? How can I make sure no one one the net can get in? Thanks

  • yo dude, whats up, is there a advance configuration like you can change the resolution of the REMOTED COMPUTER?

  • yes baby

  • but sir remember i tried to connect in remote desktop from windows 7 to windows server which i installed in microsoft virtual pc so in my own pc , and ip are the same probably ip make a problem cuz are the same !!!

  • @m3m3t11 No, each virtual PC has a different IP Address. It's a different machine. (Or at least it thinks it is.)

  • hey sir i do all your instructions to connect from windows 7 remote to windows server 2003 which is in microsoft virtual pc , so i got error connection: Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one these reasons:

    1. Remote acces to the server is not enabled

    2. The remote computer is turned off

    3. The remote computer is not available on the network

so what to do pleas help me !

  • @m3m3t11 Two questions...

    1. Did you do the directions to the server that you are trying to remote to?

    2. Did you try to remote using IP instead of name.

(Also, if you respond back please use IPCONFIG on your two computers and tell me both IP Addresses with Subnet mask

  • I have remote desktop on my computer even though it runs on Windows 7 Home Premium...

  • why does everyone think remote desktop dont come with windows 7 home premium? when if fact it does come with windows 7 home premium.

i use it,and it works fine on mine ! (server and client)

  • this works only because you have Windows 7 Ultimate.... doesnt work in Home Premium

  • @mrslowrawsquad yes it does, i use it on home premium.

  • how do you enable remote desktop web connection for if your not home buh u need to access ur home computer?

  • lol thnx bro its very god 5*****

  • can you make a tutorial video for a WAN remote desktop please?

  • its not available on vista home premium either

  • thank you!

  • could i use remote desktop to connect from a windows 7 laptop to a vista pc ? and will this allow me to manage my files e.g movies pictures and so on?

  • Ok on my remote account, im having trouble at 4:35. im entering my main accounts ip addres which i found in the cmd i pv4 address. But it says Your computer could not connect to another console session on the remote computer because you already have a console session in progress. I know i logged out of my main user and am on the second remote one i made.

  • @slimjim905 Did you fix this problem? I also have the same problem...

  • have my PC and laptop both running 7 can connet using my laptop to my desktop but cannot go back the other way both have the same settings anyone got any idea's

  • @UnProBruce Make sure you have to have a password to log onto the laptop. Are you running a firewall program on your laptop that is not on your desktop? In the network and sharing center, is your home network listed as a public network? Best guesses I have.

  • umm i think all editions of windows 7 have it i have the first edition and i have it

  • if eny1 finds out why message me

  • pwx thts exactly what mines like i dno why

  • at 0:33 i only have remote assistance option not remote desktop options like you have

  • That's because you are using a home version of Windows. RD only comes with Windows Business, Pro, Enterprise, or Ultimate. If you want RD-like functionality, you should look into UltraVNC. (It's my response video to this one.)

  • Hi, i was just windering, maybe stupid but...shoot... What can you use this remote for? why do i need it, it sounds good, but how/why do i use it?

  • Most people don't need it. If you are in an office environment, you can use it to access a machine without going directly to it. Sometimes that machine you need to install the new program on isn't even in the same state with you.

Also, servers won't have monitors on them. So, it allows me to manage things on the server without having to buy a monitor for each server.

Also, it's a bit silly but, I have a server at home with several virtual machines to play with during slow times at work.

  • How come when i go to remote, it only shows remote assistance, but not remote desktop.

  • That most likely means you are using a home version of windows. Only business versions and ultimate come with remote desktop. If this is true, you should look into VNC. See the current response video.

  • thanks

  • Thank you very very much!

  • got it!
