Thank you. because you have virtual win7 it will going to be easy by writing the IP address but if the other computer is in deferment place How can we do it?
@emadcool To access a computer in a remote network. you need to to go the router of the remote network and forward port 3389 to the computer. Then when you specify the public IP Address for the remote router, the remote router will forward the remote desktop request to the internal computer in the remote network.
When I'm looking at the system properties window, It only gives me to option to have remote assistance; there isn't anything below it that says remote desktop.
@technoblogical - Mine is the same, does that mean that I will not be able to use this to access an XP desktop? I am looking to access my boyfriends mother's XP desktop when she needs help and was looking to use remote access.
@danielle1323 You will be able to access a XP Pro desktop no problem. No one can access your desktop. If you are trying to access an XP Home or MCE desktop, it won't work either. I have a video on UltraVNC and ShowMyPC that would be better. When you do remote desktop, it actually locks the other person out of the computer. Can't help to learn if she can't see.
when i was go to remote desktop connection and i enter my ip 192.168.15.7 and i was click connect then he says ''Your Computer could not connect to another session on the remote computer because you already have a console session in progress''
any idea how to access the remote desktop over the internet i go to my buddys place and we play games so i start the server befor i leave with what ever game running the server but i cant figure out how to access remote desktop from his place works fine over lan i tryed entering my modem ip in the remote conection thing and no go any ideas would help thanks
@rasmasyean Your router is only going to forward port 3389 to one computer. You need to use a different port for each machine. You can change the default port number for each machine. Then forward the new port numbers to the new machines. (Or run a much more complex home network.) Here is a video on how to change your RDP port. youtube dot com/watch?v=JEdgZuhRIck
I cant chose what connections can get to me, like.... 2:57 I don t have the bottom tab there, only the top one, so I can t set users or anything.... Any ideas ? Tx
@PolloGuap0 We need to get Windows 7 Pro or something similar to have that feature. I also hear using a program called LogMeIn will work with the app for remote control.
@MultiNikko123 No, UltraVNC, Remote Assistance, Team Viewer, etc is for that stuff. When you remote desktop, only one person is allowed to see the desktop.
Do you know anything about Direct X Remoting? I think they were talking about that when making Windows 7. Is this what this new one is based of? Or is there another remote desktop that invovled Direct X remoting?
@rasmasyean This is the same remote desktop. Though I've never really compared how different the graphics are between the versions. I just always thought it was just "built in."
@Pparapa Remote Desktop comes with many copies of Windows. TeamViewer is supposed to be licensed if you are using it as a business. So that involves convincing the boss to pay more money for TeamViewer.
@JakobSkull It's my private IP Address. Not a big deal. Besides, even if you knew my public IP Address, I'm not too worried. Most of my ports are closed, and I'm not really worth anything if you hacked me.
@SkunknOwl Somewhere on it's configuration it probably mentions ports. On my Linksys it's listed under gaming. Port forward 3389 to your computer's IP Address. It would be also a good idea put your computer on a static IP Address. You could set up a DMZ which forwards all ports to one IP Address. Do either one, then put your public IP Address into your remote desktop console to access your computer. You can find your public IP via the website IPChicken.
@Scientia96 If you wish to connect to more than one computer on your LAN, while on your LAN, that is not a problem. My simple Linksys router only allows external port 3389 to be forwarded to one local machine. Once that port is claimed, I can not forward it to another machine. I regedit the RDP on the others so I can specify machine by port Number. It could also solved by a domain and static routes/DNS forwarders. This might be solved more simply through Team Viewer? Or some other software.
@trinhk You need to configure your router to forward port number 3389. Then when the RDP signal (Port 3389) shows up, it'll go directly to your computer. Only valid for one computer at a time.
oh also this works works away from your home network, but you have to get your server's external ip address (mine is like 72.123.532.321) so not a 192.168 type of deal
if anyone can answer this, is there any reason a person who is not a computer technician, nerd or what ever, why someone would want two operating systems on their computer.?

@exile341 Correct. WAN requires port 3389 on your NAT server to forward to your computers IP Address. @digitalmonkeynuts Remote Desktop will lock out any local users. I'm not sure which is the "other system" but if the "other system" is the media center, that means you can't watch videos on the big screen while you remote desktop into it.
Either way, UltraVNC will work well for what you are describing.
in my programs and features i have a blank program that is called "Windows Live Mesh ActiveX Control for Remote Connections" i was just wondering it was ok to uninstall
@AngelsFury69 I know Windows LIve Mesh. It allows you to synchronize files between several computers. I'm not certain if they are using active X for that. Do you synch files between your machines? Do you remember installing it? Do you ever use it? If you answered no to these questions, I'd wager you can remove it. However, I don't know. I can tell you it isn't on my machine, but I also never installed Live Essentials on my computer It may have come with that. You can re-install it.if needed.
@TheXtremepr0duction Yes, as long as the machines are Windows Vista/7 Ultimate or Windows Vista/7 Enterprise. If you have Windows Home Premium, then you need to use something like UltraVNC.
yeah..it would be easier if i have the win7 pro & ultimate to do this kind of stuff but anyway, i enjoying you video here and certainly would be good as an IT we can always exchange knowledge. Keep it up man!
can you show me how? you probably aware Systems Properties, Member of is grey out on the Domain. Meanwhile, on my Server 2008 machine, I created DNS A name but I just couldn't control Win7home. Meaning, GPO and so on. I couldn't even get RDP to work either unless my XP Pro machine, that's it. So if you have any instructional or even your own video in Youtube, I would definitely want to know...
@adatau Ah, sorry. I was mistaken. I thought you meant to remote from your Win7 into your 2008 machine. You mean use 2008 to remote into your Win7 machine. You are correct in the fact that none of that works.
what I dont understand why did microsoft sort this problem out,im trying to get program to work it omes up saying the desktop needs to be enabled Microsoft get enough money for there windows they cant even do that, microsoft are just fucked up
@itzbriantea You probably have Windows 7 Home Premium which does not come with Remote Desktop capability. If this is true, you'd be better served with VNC.
Hi, i´m using Win 7 ultimate, so i want to use remote access. I use Closed Circuit Television. I can to establish remote access but when i get it, i have no image of the cameras but i can access everything else. Thanks if you know why..
@jgcastel Remote Desktop doesn't have a very high screen refresh rate. I've noticed flash doesn't work very well through remote desktop. You are likely having a similar problem. It's also a problem with VNC.
@MikeDole1 No. If that is what you want, you should check out Remote Assistance or VNC. When you remote desktop into a Windows 7 machine, it locks out all local users. I have videos for other programs as well.
i need to make a remote connection,,, do i have to make a dyndns account so that i could inout the hostname instead of the public ip address...and the port forwarding isnt it port 3390 for windows vista and windows 7??? please feed back on me and also do i have to make a new connection??? on the network properties??? arjay_malonosan@yahoo.com
@arjay101982 Yes, you can use DYNDNS so that you don't have to memorize your public IP. You need to port forward port 3389. I would suggest that if you are using a router, then you give your desktop a static IP. Then port forward 3389, to that static IP. If you do not have a router and your computer is directly connected to the Net, you do not need to port forward. You do not need a new connection on network properties.
I've been wanting to use Remote Desktop to show my family members how to do things on the computer, but both parties can't see the desktop. Is there a way to make it so that the desktop displays on both my computer and the family room computer without interrupting the connection?
but sir remember i tried to connect in remote desktop from windows 7 to windows server which i installed in microsoft virtual pc so in my own pc , and ip are the same probably ip make a problem cuz are the same !!!
hey sir i do all your instructions to connect from windows 7 remote to windows server 2003 which is in microsoft virtual pc , so i got error connection: Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one these reasons:
1. Remote acces to the server is not enabled
2. The remote computer is turned off
3. The remote computer is not available on the network
could i use remote desktop to connect from a windows 7 laptop to a vista pc ? and will this allow me to manage my files e.g movies pictures and so on?
Ok on my remote account, im having trouble at 4:35. im entering my main accounts ip addres which i found in the cmd i pv4 address. But it says Your computer could not connect to another console session on the remote computer because you already have a console session in progress. I know i logged out of my main user and am on the second remote one i made.
have my PC and laptop both running 7 can connet using my laptop to my desktop but cannot go back the other way both have the same settings anyone got any idea's
@UnProBruce Make sure you have to have a password to log onto the laptop. Are you running a firewall program on your laptop that is not on your desktop? In the network and sharing center, is your home network listed as a public network? Best guesses I have.
That's because you are using a home version of Windows. RD only comes with Windows Business, Pro, Enterprise, or Ultimate. If you want RD-like functionality, you should look into UltraVNC. (It's my response video to this one.)
Most people don't need it. If you are in an office environment, you can use it to access a machine without going directly to it. Sometimes that machine you need to install the new program on isn't even in the same state with you.
Also, servers won't have monitors on them. So, it allows me to manage things on the server without having to buy a monitor for each server.
Also, it's a bit silly but, I have a server at home with several virtual machines to play with during slow times at work.
That most likely means you are using a home version of windows. Only business versions and ultimate come with remote desktop. If this is true, you should look into VNC. See the current response video.

@technoblogical ok thanks a lot for the info, really helped

can u do this from 2 different computers on the same network?
ex: i got my laptop in my bedroom and my desktop upstairs .can i use my laptop to control my desktop? they are win7 and win vista
TheXtremepr0duction 1 year ago
@TheXtremepr0duction Yes, as long as the machines are Windows Vista/7 Ultimate or Windows Vista/7 Enterprise. If you have Windows Home Premium, then you need to use something like UltraVNC.

is internet required to use remote access desktop? does it cause virus ?
hardnocks24 1 year ago
@hardnocks24 No, you can do in on the local network.
And probably not. If you choose to let the remote machine to access local resources or access an older version of RD you get a warning.
technoblogical 1 year ago
yeah..it would be easier if i have the win7 pro & ultimate to do this kind of stuff but anyway, i enjoying you video here and certainly would be good as an IT we can always exchange knowledge. Keep it up man!
adatau 1 year ago
can you show me how? you probably aware Systems Properties, Member of is grey out on the Domain. Meanwhile, on my Server 2008 machine, I created DNS A name but I just couldn't control Win7home. Meaning, GPO and so on. I couldn't even get RDP to work either unless my XP Pro machine, that's it. So if you have any instructional or even your own video in Youtube, I would definitely want to know...
adatau 1 year ago
@adatau Ah, sorry. I was mistaken. I thought you meant to remote from your Win7 into your 2008 machine. You mean use 2008 to remote into your Win7 machine. You are correct in the fact that none of that works.

@technoblogical You have no RAM 0:13

do you know to workaround to RDP on windows 7 home edition to server 2008?
adatau 1 year ago
@adatau That should work. I do that all the time. You just can't access your 7 machine remotely.

itzbriantea 1 year ago
@itzbriantea You probably have Windows 7 Home Premium which does not come with Remote Desktop capability. If this is true, you'd be better served with VNC.

Hi, i´m using Win 7 ultimate, so i want to use remote access. I use Closed Circuit Television. I can to establish remote access but when i get it, i have no image of the cameras but i can access everything else. Thanks if you know why..
jgcastel 1 year ago
@jgcastel Remote Desktop doesn't have a very high screen refresh rate. I've noticed flash doesn't work very well through remote desktop. You are likely having a similar problem. It's also a problem with VNC.

can the person on the computer being ctrled see what you are doing?
MikeDole1 1 year ago
@MikeDole1 No. If that is what you want, you should check out Remote Assistance or VNC. When you remote desktop into a Windows 7 machine, it locks out all local users. I have videos for other programs as well.

i need to make a remote connection,,, do i have to make a dyndns account so that i could inout the hostname instead of the public ip address...and the port forwarding isnt it port 3390 for windows vista and windows 7??? please feed back on me and also do i have to make a new connection??? on the network properties??? arjay_malonosan@yahoo.com
arjay101982 1 year ago
@arjay101982 Yes, you can use DYNDNS so that you don't have to memorize your public IP. You need to port forward port 3389. I would suggest that if you are using a router, then you give your desktop a static IP. Then port forward 3389, to that static IP. If you do not have a router and your computer is directly connected to the Net, you do not need to port forward. You do not need a new connection on network properties.

m3m3t11 1 year ago
@m3m3t11 No, each virtual PC has a different IP Address. It's a different machine. (Or at least it thinks it is.)
technoblogical 1 year ago
hey sir i do all your instructions to connect from windows 7 remote to windows server 2003 which is in microsoft virtual pc , so i got error connection: Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one these reasons:
1. Remote acces to the server is not enabled
2. The remote computer is turned off
3. The remote computer is not available on the network
so what to do pleas help me !
m3m3t11 1 year ago
@m3m3t11 Two questions...
1. Did you do the directions to the server that you are trying to remote to?
2. Did you try to remote using IP instead of name.
(Also, if you respond back please use IPCONFIG on your two computers and tell me both IP Addresses with Subnet mask

UnProBruce 1 year ago
@UnProBruce Make sure you have to have a password to log onto the laptop. Are you running a firewall program on your laptop that is not on your desktop? In the network and sharing center, is your home network listed as a public network? Best guesses I have.

at 0:33 i only have remote assistance option not remote desktop options like you have
PWXgame 2 years ago
That's because you are using a home version of Windows. RD only comes with Windows Business, Pro, Enterprise, or Ultimate. If you want RD-like functionality, you should look into UltraVNC. (It's my response video to this one.)
technoblogical 2 years ago
Hi, i was just windering, maybe stupid but...shoot... What can you use this remote for? why do i need it, it sounds good, but how/why do i use it?
90Loni 2 years ago
Most people don't need it. If you are in an office environment, you can use it to access a machine without going directly to it. Sometimes that machine you need to install the new program on isn't even in the same state with you.
Also, servers won't have monitors on them. So, it allows me to manage things on the server without having to buy a monitor for each server.
Also, it's a bit silly but, I have a server at home with several virtual machines to play with during slow times at work.
technoblogical 2 years ago
How come when i go to remote, it only shows remote assistance, but not remote desktop.
ericcaines 2 years ago
That most likely means you are using a home version of windows. Only business versions and ultimate come with remote desktop. If this is true, you should look into VNC. See the current response video.
