  • Beautiful & intelligent woman.

  • i agree 100% if aid was working it would.. well worked by now...

  • I agree with Ms. Moyo 100%! I have made a *very* frank video outlining the travesty of aid and the neverending cycle of Africa's economic and political problems. Take a look if you may so wish here: watch?v=EpUaChUNf3E

  • I love when the interviewer talks about chile as if she knows anything, she clearly has no clear about the coup to overthrow a popular socialist president in salvador allande by the american backs pinochet.

  • What has she this oxford highly educated african done to improve the lives of africans ,she must have a lot of money her self of which her fellow human beings do not have good spokes woman yes but what has she done to try and improve the lives of the impoverished black brother

  • @heilqueerstapo Did you watch the end of the video? She's on the board of an NGO to support Africans. And she's out everywhere spreading her message about encouraging jobs for Africans.

  • @OnYourMarkItsumo No my friend i have seen her in the magazine called the Times as 100 of the most influential people .She is educated and she has money ,She talks of aid being bad because her life is good

If she was an uneducated african woman who has to scavenge i don't thing she would be saying that

  • @heilqueerstapo the fact that there are masses of "uneducated african women", even after all the years of aid--i think that's moyo's point. even you point out the poverty of africa. if aid were good for africa, conditions should have improved.

  • @heilqueerstapo Exactly her point - stop asking for hands out and be accountable for your actions. She has done and is doing more than that of most sub saharan african leaders for the Africans. Big Up Kagame the Rwanda President. In his time in office has reduced AID to 40% of the national Budget and has open gateway for Investors to flood more than 500mil USdollars to his country given more jobs to the people and irradicating poverty in the country.

  • @ghanakid185 Thanks for the insight mate but the crippled and the blind would always need aid .Yes africa has a lot of mineral resources probably the fault is the black skin

  • Chinweizu Ibekwe once wrote...

“The central objective in decolonising the African mind is to overthrow the authority which alien traditions exercise over the African. This demands the dismantling of white supremacist beliefs, and the structures which uphold them, in every area of African life. It must be stressed, however, that decolonisation does not mean ignorance of foreign traditions; it simply means denial of their authority and withdrawal of allegiance from them.”

  • Somaliland is a good example of a private sector government.

  • one country that is barely mentioned is botswana. botswana embraced the market economy and is now among the richest countries in africa. more african countries need to be like botswana

  • @goPistons06 I know ...I know...They don't mention GHANA,BOTSWANA ,TANZANIA ,SOUTHERN NIGERIA

They love to talk about CONGO ,UGANDA,SUDAN ,RWANDA and of course America's favorite country :SOMALIA

  • This is what the nations of Arfica needs. Intelligent, articulate empowered and, may I be a typical male and say, completely gorgeous African women. Dambisa, I m a European white gay man, and I support you 100%. If only everyone spoke as eloquently as you. She is a credit to her continent.

  • I love this. Aid lulls the local population to sleep and make them dependent on the ones giving the aid. Self-sufficiency and self-empowerment is key.

    -G

  • Gather all the so-called african leaders, the monkeys in suits and lock them in a room. Let the likes of Dambisa run the continent and dignity and prosperity shall return in just a decade or even less!

  • Some aid is clearly counterproductive, can create a dependency culture but more important issues are highly counterproductive international policies, Western tariffs/protectionist policies, the historical imbalance in trade/power, Western support of tyrants in developing, colonial legacy, the devil is in the detail while those depending on some form of aid for survival need structured, proven alternatives before aid should be ceased, which i think would be a very drastic thing to do.

  • Thank you. You are an inspiration. You are also not alone.

  • 6:40-6:45 I like that. Outspoken, but careful.

  • Wow, truly amazing, your line of thought in so inline with mine, but you put it so eloquently that I could never do !

  • The sad reality is that the asset based lending model we've witnessed in the West has merely created a real estate bubble, poisoned the banking sector, and jeopardized pensions. What if borrowers actually cherished the availability of credit and made concerted efforts to repay - now there is an interesting lending model.

  • @go4gopher Anglo-American model for past 25 years has been based on easy credit, too much free money, bailouts and other moral hazards. The correct way of growing an economy based on fundamentals relies on savings>capital>investment>jobs>real growth. The illusion of wealth based on a figure attached to it is nonsense. Credit should be determined by availability of savings and not government interference. It seems China has been investing in Africa because of its need for commodities.

  • "I really don't trust the celebrity culture"

    --ditto!

  • A Puzzle on NGOs: Haiti is referred to as a 'republic of NGOs'. It has over 3,000 NGOs (the highest per capita in the world) and still increasing every year. Yet the country has become consistently poorer. It therefore begs the question whether NGOs are really the solution to poverty? - The African Bulletin

  • Moyo, is brilliant. She exposed those corrupt African leaders who are relaying on Aid except one country in the region called ERITREA, who refused accepting any kinds of Aids from the donors.

  • Idiot reporter. Genius Moyo. It's about darn time someone said what everyone has known for over 50 years.

  • most brilliant argument of the century! Is there anything being done to push this argument into action?

  • How can I join you

  • She's right. Darwinism is the best way to help Africa.

  • I am so impressed and proud. She comes from my country and shares the exact same sentiments I have.

  • (1) I think he is not adressing the good issue here, first of all what we call "Aid in Africa" is not Aid, therefore we have a problem discussing over something we can't properly name.

Second, developped countries don't give their "trap-money" to Africa because they care about the future of Africans, that money is to force you to open your market for foreign products (western) when you know in the long or medium term that it's going to destroy the weak economy of your own local compagnies !

  • She is AWESOME...

"the path to long-term development would only be achieved through private sector involvement and free market solutions."

  • The greatest person on the planet at this moment is Dambisa Moyo!

  • @acavideo African people's problem is having the consciousness of Europeans instead of their own historic consciousness which brought about Egypt Nubia Ethiopia Great Zimbabwe Songhai Mali Zulu Ashanti and etc.

  • She is very very smart lady..read her book!

  • Dambisa Moyo your doing a great job,I am so impressed with your idea,in fact any body who does not want go deep into what you saying will be blind forever. You message is very clear. The problem with many people in Africa do not know Govt to Govt AIDS is different to Social AIDS[malaria and HIV AIDS eradication].She is more abt Govt to Govt.Any Economist with better awareness will never be against you.

  • There has never been real aid to Africa. It has always been link to this or that which in the end brought some of destruction. Good research should unearth this. The "Confession of an Economic Hitman" is a book i heard is revealing volumes about this. So African beauty, keep on inspiring us but don't forget there are more than two sides to a coin.

  • Dambisa you raise good points,i need to read a copy of your book.

  • Aid will work if there leaders wasnt so incompetent and corrupt. ALL this beautiful, powerfull AFRICAN QUEEN needs is some equally intelligent and strong army of go getters behind her and real changes will come to africa quick and in time. Africa has to break the corrupt cycle designed but kept up by those sorry niggers in office. she is a true leader, i wish her good luck.

  • Her book is good. The Lords of Poverty is also a good book on this subject matter. Let me throw in Economic Hitmen too.

  • Dambisa you are amazing, thank you

  • @sterlingtaste is that your solution or is this just another way to pass a racist comment,am sure you have the highest IQ in the world, needless to say you are soo smart in your world,to the rest of us,you sound dumb and ignorant.get a life.

  • @sterlingtaste It is people like you who should not never set your foot here. What mental agility are you talking about with the kind of barbarism shown by Europe to Africa and the rest of the world at the turn of the century. Goodness me!

  • @sterlingtaste I can understand some one being naive but I cannot understand a stupid one. People like you should not be watching educated programs like this any ways. Watch a movie or some thing else because education is not your thing.

  • Dambisa isn't "saying" it but I am there is a subversive element of racism here. Basically Dambisa Moyo is saying the west do not believe Africans cannot help themselves. I think Dambisa is saying if the African governments were held more accountable and the aid was cut they would be forced to help African people.

  • Just look at what foreign aid did for Liberia; turned it into hell.

  • A smart black woman? Now i have seen it all.

  • Essential to view if interested in development in Africa.

  • She's like Naomi Campbell with brains (- and obviously more brains than me by this comment)

  • So, what are you saying rochillz? I think Dambisa Moyo she is talking about the paternalism this attitude that African countries cannot help themselves without European influence.

  • Moyo, you are brilliant ! I love you, baby !

  • Isha Sesay vs moyo whos sexiest

  • Dambisa Moyo has a doctorate degree in economics this woman knows what she's talking about! Go Ms. Moyo she is correct putting Hollywood stars on blast! There is a culture of dependency where African corrupt governments are let off the hook!

The issue is not about money Africa gets ton of foreign aid the problem is the money is not reaching the people. Time to cut off the aid!

  • Yes, she has a doctorate, but she doesn't get the whole picture. Western aid is tied to Euroepean dominance and exploitation of African resources. who supplies the guns, who supports the dictotors that sign away the minerals, its all a game.

  • I agree on most things but she is very wrong about others. The idea that private market is going to solve all their problems, specially corrupt governments is just ridiculous. Find out what happened in Argentina 8 years ago, or what happened in Brazil, Indonesia, west Africa.. And she is only talking about aid, most important thing is to understand the root problem, why these countries need help in the first place, what made them so poor, that is key to find out the best way to help them.

  • This lady is right on. I've been working in Central Africa for 24 years. I have seen so many times that aid breeds dependence and expecting more aid to get by. Creativity and initiative are stifled. Those that I have seen work hard to support themselves regain their dignity. One of the reasons Uganda has developed so much is that it has privatized so many services & institutions: transportation, phone, electricity, water, etc. Of course, anti-capitalists don't like what this lady says.

  • @Skipblitzz The number one thing to watch is who creates the money. Here in America the privately owned Federal Reserve loans us our currency at interest. The Bankers now own most of America and its government. They do this by not creating the money needed to pay the interest. This is why most countries around the world are drowning in debt, and new loans with more interest are needed to pay back the old loans. It is a grand ponzi scheme we live in.

  • @dsmith5167 This is a very good point.

  • USA and Europe collect money, African leaders receive it, become wealthier and wealthier, while usual Africans become poorer...

  • america is acting like they don't know why africans are trying to get rid of aid.

  • Aha.. why not Issuing African bond.. may be china will not slam the door to Africa..

  • LOL only a small portion is Humanitarian aid but that's all we see in the west. I would think that it was all the money... Tricksters the media they are..

  • "it's pictures like these that are lodged in our hearts"- yes Africa has its problems... Africa needs a new PR team and a better image... lets start

  • About time. She's Brilliant!

  • Naysayers can't ignore the facts- LOVE dambisa Moyo- what the developing world needs

  • Once again, more high-level talk from someone with an over-hyped bio with very little substance. Unfortunately, she has evolved within large institutions and thinks like an institutionalized mind would (i.e. using bonds to fix capital constraints). There are Africans, still living in Africa, still evolving in an African context, that could provide such a richer lesson in the debate on how things work and how to move forward!

  • this woman is toooo smart. I agree with her 100%

  • "The discipline that capital markets can and do impose on borrowers is much better than the type of panhandling..."

Yeah except the US... they will be panhandling soon.

  • I want advice on investing in Africa. Check my videos I wish to help.

  • Dambiso is inspiring but I am certain that there are African countries which have used foreign aid responsibly. On the other hand, as the interviewer points out, neoliberal economic policies have had many detrimental effects. I look forward to reading Dambiso's new book!

  • Moyo's knowledge and intelligence are formidable. Anyone supporting the status quo vis-a-vis aid to Africa, fund-raising, etc., cannot ignore her evidence and concurrent arguments --

  • I'm right with you 'gal'..let's get it.

  • Dambisa is a great role model for all young women not just African girls; look past her obvious beauty and take note of her passion, vision, brilliance, and courage.

  • @Craigvadams Thank you for that comment! It's disappointing how superficial some people can be. . .Listen to the Message: she's speaking a true strategy for change in Africa!

  • I realy dont fully understand Bono and the other guys 'Aid' plead. That creates a pitty image, instead of encouraging investment. Business creats jobs, jobs move people out of poverty. Bono and whats his name just perpetuate a negative image of Africans as selfless/needing european musicians to stick up for them, thats patrinising!!

  • true say

angelina. bono, madonna and all those celebrities who pretend to care about Africa, sometimes i think they r doing it for their own fame. But in reality the whole thing tarnishes Africa's image and discourages any sort of investment or trade with Africa.now days ppl want to go to africa not to invest, but to fish for babies they can adapt. and what all those IMF, world bank and NGOs do is corrupt our leaders, plunge the continent into more debt and steal our resources.

  • Right on girlfriend!!

  • I dont think I said it right...it's.. Right on!! babe.

  • lol... thank u boyfriend!!!

  • you're very welcome..lovely!!

  • @bumisworld Not only that but, they make them themselves feel saintly, they may be well intentioned, unless they are being used though. I hope she is not alone.
