  • Aaaaaaahhhhh... So absolutely great song, great album...

  • big jimmy

  • My Auntie Phyllis, who passed away at age 80 in June, gave me a copy of this album for my 14th birthday. I loved it instantly. It's so...genuine. 'Burn It Down', 'Tell Me When My Light Turns Green', 'Geno', 'Thankfully Not living in Yorkshire...'--all great memorable tracks. Hardly anyone had even heard of DMR in Newfoundland at the time, so I felt like I was in on some super-cool trans-Atlantic secret. One question: Who's sampled between The Pistols and The Specials in the intro?

  • One of the best opening album tracks of all time. Remember when i first heard it and just felt blown away by the power of the thing !

  • oooo god thse guys are so fucking gooood!!!!!

  • good quality audio. nice.

  • I have re-discovered the brilliance of Dexy's with 30th anniversary special edition 2 cd - proving you may be half a century innings but you're still a young soul rebel - for gods sake burn it down...

  • I love Manny!

  • FUCKING FANTASTIC

  • Now the kids have left the nest - I'm getting time to read the references: presently, Sean O'Casey...and relevant to my Irish ancestry, - and like Kevins got away to the West Midlands!

  • So unique and pumping even after all these years.

  • @JulieQ150

One of my all time fave albums as a teenager

  • l,m lrish where do they say we,re thick, dexys there not lrish there from the midlands, whats your problem,?????????????????

  • @MrOldknight no problem mate - but the chorus lists a number of writers, Irish or of Irish extraction, Rowland was just exposing the myth that was perpetuated at the time in old Engerland.

  • @MrOldknight

Kevin Rolland is of Irish parents & so were a lot of the band, he wrote a lot of songs with connections to his pride of being a second generation Irishman

  • @Garv2 Yes, you're right, his parents are from Mayo. My grandmother lived next door to his parents and my mum and Kevin are second cousins .

BTW,s2trash, thanks very much for uploading their best track from their best album. Top quality stuff :D

  • Incredible blast with a powerful message for those who loved to see the Irish as 'thick'

  • @LilywhiteMcLenin

  • @LilywhiteMcLenin thanks for that comment. i never really listened to the words before now. Thats a real education, thanks again

  • @LilywhiteMcLenin I don't understand this comment, Kevin Rowland was born in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands and continued to live in the Midlands for the duration of his 80's commercial success.

  • Big Jimmy Patterson was a trombone monster. Loved this record so much when I was in college and couldn't believe my ears when the next record came out. Shocked.

  • @Reulor

Has to be one of the best from the 80's at least

  • @s2trash

For me, it is more than that. I couldn´t say it better than pmattews2 did in his comment ...

  • @Reulor i too was gobsmacked, sadly it was all downhill from there...

  • Still maintain that KR was one of the very few pop musicians who can be described as a genius. He was lightning from a clear sky. And he didn't give a fuck.

  • tenerife presente!

  • shut your fucking mouth untill you know the truth

  • Er OK , tell you when i do !

    Tom x

  • One of the all time great albums. A real life changer, and still relevant as ever.

Pity the poor souls who think Dexys are only 'Come on Eileen' .

  • @pmatthews2 YES What did they do sold themselves out

  • @pmatthews2

    I agree. 100%.

  • "Searching For The Young Soul Rebels" ... one of my fave LP's ... the later Dexys incarnation (Come On Eileen) didn't rally do it for me.

  • My music taste vary from here to there but this album is one i am glad i bought ..well ok my mom bought for me ..ON VINYL .BACK WHEN I WERE NOWT BUT A WEE LAD ..stuck with me eversince !!!

  • Got this album on 4 formats

  • So many poor souls have missed out by not having this album. In another 29 years it will still be as great

  • It is a Album that is over looked by so many . I think the main reason is there later work ie Come On bloody you know what made them a bit of a joke band but this is just a personal view . This is a great SOUL album by any standards .

  • its an absolute blinder.i dont know anyone else who likes these..weird!

  • by far the best song this band ever wrote. Stuff "Come On Eileen"

  • This is my favorite song by this band.

Someone tell all those ppl 'Come On Eileen' isn't the only song they ever played nor is it even their best.
