at 2:18, he says whats interesting is that those who drive the TDI are the biggest ambassadors of all of our customers.........gee maybe because theres not many other options for diesel cars in america??
Just looking at the design of the car...its nothing special...very very common, they've gone for a very safe design outlook...and its boring...just my 2c
The clean diesel is a big deal and I've been waiting for a while to see more midsized diesel sedans. The only one out there so far has been the E320... and it's just a bit too pricey for my wallet. I'm looking forward to being able to pick up a well equiped mid sized diesel sedan for around 30K.
By the way: why aren't you bringing over the VW Scirocco? That's much more car than the frugal Golf GT, which is way overpriced and technologically left behind by others
And by the way, your present Passat starts @ 27,000... The new BUICK REGAL (rebadged OPEL INSIGNIA) is way better than the Passat for the same money... The Audis are getting ugglier and ugglier (yet more and more expensive)... You really have tough times ahead of you.
Hey Volkswagen, listen here: WHEN YOU'LL BRING OR MANUFACTURE THE CARS IN THE LINE-UP WITH THE SAME SPECS YOU HAVE IN THE CARS DESIGNED FOR THE EUROPEAN MARKET, THEN YOU SHOULD GET "excited". Until then, keep fingers crossed that more and more people are willing to spend an excess of $ 20,000 (below that you get a bare car like any other brand...) on your brand, and not move to better warranty brands like the new Sonata, new Optima, etc...
in my opinion the 2010 passat looks much better than this restyling that makes it really similar (the front)to polo or golf,it lacks a little design...
Hordes of journalists, not hoards! A hoard is something you've kept safe and apart from where anyone can find it... doesn't really apply to journalists!
toyota camry....ford taurus ....now vw passat ...same concept ...build a factory marketing ,make some new jobs for poor people ,and you can sell the car as a U.S. car...but it's not...it is a german car....design is very safe design..lots of steeling from bmw 5 series....but overall it is a cold diplomat car...usefull as a "firmcar" for me it is too conservative and cold for a family car ....vw follow the toyota way in the U.S.....and the quality ? we will see later
@guyfierifan the "firmcar" you're talking about is still the Toyota Avensis. I don't find the Passat cold, and find the quality of materials 5x better than Toyota.
@guyfierifan nah the quality will be worse because the american production vehicles will be slightly diffrent models from the german produced ones (or shall i say europe because a big number of the parts are assembled in germany) .Because the us model description of some VW cars on wikipedia says that they will use some slightly inferior material and refinement^^
@Imahappylittlewhore This Passat is targeted only at North America and China. European version is completely different - for the first time in history. In Europe we call this model "Passat NMS". American and Chinese customers want bigger cars so they made Passat bigger. It stands to reason that this version will be bit inferior to the European one because European customers are simply more demanding in materials and build quality.
What Klaus describes is called "obesity" not "masculinity". There is nothing masculine about a car that has extra dead volume just for the same of volume.
I'm cool with a better-driving car, made in the US, to go up against the typical Japanese sedan. You can make fun all you want for them wanting to grow in that way, but it's smart business. And despite the similarities, the lines are actually better on the Passat.
VW designs are older than Chevy... in fact, they're all based on the original Beetle with evolutions over time. So no, I don't think VW would need to steal anything from Chevy.

2012 Passat or 2008 Chevy Malibu? VW shoudl be ashamed of a body, and headlights that look like they were stolen from a 2008 Chevy.
I have driven VW's since 1989, my current Passat may be my last..... very disappointed.
