  • At 6:38, why doesn't white just Qf5+. It would be a good move, I think. White is still defending the pawn on c2. A move for black would be Pc5 to defend his knight, but... idk. I'm no chess player.

    :3

  • I'm just starting to look at openings and the sheer number of possibilities in each game has me so hooked. Thanks for the great video!

  • @neoconretard Not sure, I've been playing a bunch of them. I think the Keres is all right.

  • At 7:37 if white nabs the b-pawn even better would be Na6 winning the queen, a common trap.

    Nice video, found it instructive.

  • actually at 2:30 Black can attack as following : Bh4+ (if Knight capture then Qe4+ with white response g3 then finally black capture g3 with his knight .. ) or g3 then the Bishop captures . .

  • @mazinm2006 6...Bh4+ 7.Nxh4 Qxh4+ 8.g3 Nxg3 9.Qf2 (a typical counterpin) Nf5 (9...d4!?) 10.Qxh4 Nxh4 11.Nxd5 ought to be better for white.

  • as always well done matt great vid thumbs up!

  • I played this game today [Event "Evanston Chess vs. TMCC"] [Date "2010.04.18"] [White "Pullin, Matt"] [Black "Markovic, Arandel"] [Result "1-0"] [ECO "C29"] [WhiteElo "2045"] [BlackElo "2000"] [PlyCount "47"] 1. e4 e5 2. • Matt I really like the relaxing grey rocks as a background. Also, your "dual commentary game" with the Australian kid was excellent. I got a prescription to his channel also.

    Best regards,

    Jess

  • @jessicafischerqueen The rocks are a default background in ChessBase9. Your comment made me wonder if I am allowed to use my own image... :-}

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this video. It was very helpful.

  • THE VIENNA GAME IS A FORCED WIN FOR WHITE implies MATT PULLIN IS THE BEST CHESS PLAYER EVER

  • @andrewzot As neither of those are true your statement is technically correct

  • hey once again, love your videos! dont stop makin them ;) cheers!

  • Not sure what all the comments about "chess being solved" is supposed to mean. Does this mean one day the perfect game of chess will be discovered and no matter what moves are made there will be a soild refute to them? Considering the endless combinations in a game of chess I cant see how this will ever happen.

  • @luke19631963 Checkers is solved. It is proven that the first player can reach one of several positions that are winning, e.g. if best possible moves are played for each side, the first player wins. We have not reached this point in chess because the number of possible positions and moves from each position is much more vast than checkers - but still finite. Our computers are not powerful enough. But they might be, in the future.

  • Nice analysis Matt. Thanks!

  • at 5:23 why not (...d3) or (...d4)?

  • @drummerkickbrass on d4, Black can exchange on c1 and then on e5, and White is forced to liquefy the f file heavy pieces leaving him an endgame with a weak pawn. d3 just loses a pawn outright after ...Bxc1.

  • Great movie. Long live the Vienna Game!

  • Ive played the Vienna for about 40 years. I think Q-K2 I think it is busted by blacks Q-KR5. IMO N-KB3 is a critical move in nearly all lines computers may disagree though. I get good positions out of this opening because black often doesn't know they need to play P-Q4 after 2 ... N-KB3 3. P-KB4

  • @TheBigGuppy

If black plays NxN I generally like to capture with the QN-P. I usually play an early P-Q4 and build the pawn center and castle short. Then I play to break open the KB file.

Vienna often transposes to advantageous lines of the KGD or Bishop's opening lines when Black plays his QN instead of KN on move 2.

I don't suggest playing the Vienna if you are uncomfortable with messy positions.

  • I enjoyed and hope that I can make use of your ideas...Thx for the upload Matt!

  • very good opening

  • one day chess will be solved and everyone will play the same opening

  • @trixapete They said that in the 1910s too when all the GMs were playing the queen's gambit declined and drawing each other

  • great video. seems like a different sort of king pawn game.

  • Hey Matt, Great vid. I just wanted to add that another option for white is to play 5.c3 (before moving the queen) ...

A video by kingscrusher on this variation can be found here

    youtube com/watch?v=sOc5oD1s5bg

Anyways, thanks again for the video.

  • @ripper909420 Thanks. The other immediate kick 5.d3 (5...Qh4+ is inferior here) Nxc3 6.bxc3 c5 is solid for Black.

  • Thanks, nice opening idea. Will try it in an over the board game.

  • Yea thanks man!!

  • Nice coverage. Initially I thought Na6 was a mistake. I didn't see the Bb7 continuation. Thumbs up.
