It sucks to have an injury but Sandy's sob story is unacceptable in competition because she shouldnt be there. I could only imagine how frustrating it must be for any coach to simply try to do their job in this situation; but since theyre paid it doesnt matter? If I were her coach Id tell her to call be when shes able-bodied; if i were Sandy I wouldnt waste money potentially making the injury worse and ending a season on a bad note. Sandy is clearly a testament of what not to do with an injury.
I know they're showing off for the cameras but everyone knows you cannot, should not, and don't do doubles on the first day in a new boot. It has zero to do with how "good" you are- if you do high-impact (read: higher than single jumps) jumps in brand new boots, which aren't yet bending enough, it will create creases in the wrong spots, and the boot will become twisted/distorted. The fitter shouldn't have said "go do any jump you want", that's ignorant.
yeah i agree with laura. i fractured the same part of my spine she did and every time you land a jump or have any impact, especially a fall, it spasms. plus emotionally, you realize how dangerous it is. for me after a year off, it took everything a had mentally to do laybacks. its hard to throw yourself into something knowing without a doubt that its gonna hurt horribley no matter what. i really respect her alot
I'm not so sure sandy is commited I think she's just there to take up space and be like..ooo I have skills well looks and attitude factor in sweety! lol
I disagree with you. She's obviously trying as hard as she can, but from someone who knows back pain, it's very very hard to "push through the pain". If she wasn't committed, she wouldn't even bother to try the difficult jumps at all. I'm proud that she is trying as hard as she is to make it through, even with her ass of a coach saying that he's angry that she's not working hard enough. SHE'S IN HORRIBLE PAIN you ass. (directed at the coach, not you)
i think that Tom did everything he could. he already told her to make the decision, and she made a bad one. dont think coaches do not understand the pain, believe me, they do.
i know the back pain myself, have it every day when skating, and my coach behaves the same way as Tom does. but i dont blame my coach for being harsh to me, because she only wants me to do best, and if im in a really bad pain, i just take days off. so Sandy made a wrong decision competing and should have just stayed off..
Alissa Czisny is so lovely, I want to see her at this 2006/2007 season; I wanna see her at the Grand Prix Final and I would be very happy if she goes to Senior Worlds.
