Wow! Great video. Got my first horse when I was 6 yo. I sold my last horse a couple of months ago but missed it so much that I went to the stable to ride. Now I walk like I shit in my pants and my friends "don't understand how much of my muscles I actually used".....

I ride a friesian, and he's the old baroque type, hes big. but amazing.
I risk my life everytime i put myself in the saddle, cause surdenly (sometimes) he will just run, his brains completely shuts off. no contact, nothing. but it happens 1 time a year, so the rest of the times, i just love him :D

@horselover866 I know a lot about horses and I am still learning, but I am not an instructor. I do it for my fun only..People I admire and learn from are Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling, Nevzorov, J.F. Pignon. Pat Parelli is also ok but he has a different approach than those mentioned above ( a few levels lower if you ask me).
@horselover866 ).(continuation from the answer below) I take what I like, I dont use the bit when riding, it is all in your weight, change of balance and trust.You can jump, do dressage, horse agility, ride in the woods, play on the ground, whatever you like. it may take a few years to achieve such a trusthworthy connection though hempfling does it in a few min/days/weeks->horsegod!!! good luck in exploring different ways!
This is awesome! This should be a national commercial! In Alabama, there is very little support for equestrian activities. The mayor of Montgomery, where the largest Open Horse Show (State Championship) around is held every yr (over 3,000 entries) and many other major equine events/rodeos, doesnt even know or care about the HUGE economic impact of the horse industry in this area! So sad and ignorant!

@PigGoesWrong Not really, you have to be skilled to make the horse skilled. The horse won't learn all by itself, it takes lots of practise. Without a talent rider/horseman there's no chance you can get as far as the people in this video.

You take all the money, all the expensive lessons, all the time and dedication, a non-professional rider spents on his/her horse. After ten years, there are still no relevant achievements, the rider still makes mistakes all the time and he/she has still not attempted anything over beginner's level.
Then you give it to a dancer, a footballplayer, a boxer and see how far he will take it in the same amount of time. My guess would be a professional.
@kamelai like all sports you need to be somewhat talented. i know many people who tried to be a dancer, fotball player and what not for many years, but havent made it. Aswell as much riders havent made it. But if u really have a talent for i, you'll make it, like in any sport. That is all.

this is so good haha! everything it says is true.. i've been riding all my life and its still no where near easy! i think its one of the hardest things to excel at, as you have to change ponies/horses as you grow up, and its not just YOU that has to train, you have your partner too train to which makes it twice as HARD!, so its a much harder sport than any other, and i really wish those people would see that more! @biskvitic ok if the horse didnt want to listen to you or want to jump it wouldnt. they are 1500 pound animals they can pretty much do what they want if they want to. its the fact that they trust you to get them to the right distance and when the person messes up the horse will take care of you and when the horse messes up you take care of it. you only use those things when they misbehave. youll never understand the bond that us horseriders have with our horses. think before you speak or right.
@biskvitic It's not the bit, spurs and whips, it's the way they are used. A hackamore "bit", for example, can break the horse's nose bone when used wrong, but I have witnessed it being used successfully on very sensitive-mouthed horses. Also, the proper way to use a whip is to gently tap the horse with it. Of course there are many people that do beat their horses, but that's obviously not the fault of the equipment.
@KorvusKoraks I totally agree..though in my opinion there is not even g from gentle when using the bit, hackamore or spurs.... "in my world" we should all ride like stacy westfall does in one of your clips on youtube..,,naked horse and rider :)

Anyone who says equestrian is not sport or it's easy, their ignorance is their problem. Anyone that know something about history or military history could see that modern equestrian came from the military cavalry. Cavalry being the elite of any military(you never heard the word "cannon fodder" being use on cavalry men) for last 2000years, no one with some sense of logic,would say "that's easy!"

The mayor of Montgomery, where the largest Open Horse Show (State Championship) around is held every yr (over 3,000 entries) and many other major equine events/rodeos, doesnt even know or care about the HUGE economic impact of the horse industry in this area! @PigGoesWrong Not really, you have to be skilled to make the horse skilled. The horse won't learn all by itself, it takes lots of practise. Without a talent rider/horseman there's no chance you can get as far as the people in this video.

You take all the money, all the expensive lessons, all the time and dedication, a non-professional rider spents on his/her horse. After ten years, there are still no relevant achievements, the rider still makes mistakes all the time and he/she has still not attempted anything over beginner's level.
Then you give it to a dancer, a footballplayer, a boxer and see how far he will take it in the same amount of time. My guess would be a professional.
This difference says it all.

@kamelai like all sports you need to be somewhat talented. i know many people who tried to be a dancer, fotball player and what not for many years, but havent made it. Aswell as much riders havent made it. But if u really have a talent for i, you'll make it, like in any sport. That is all.

this is so good haha! everything it says is true.. i've been riding all my life and its still no where near easy! i think its one of the hardest things to excel at, as you have to change ponies/horses as you grow up, and its not just YOU that has to train, you have your partner too train to which makes it twice as HARD!, so its a much harder sport than any other, and i really wish those people would see that more! Thanks for the great video!:)

@biskvitic ok if the horse didnt want to listen to you or want to jump it wouldnt. they are 1500 pound animals they can pretty much do what they want if they want to. its the fact that they trust you to get them to the right distance and when the person messes up the horse will take care of you and when the horse messes up you take care of it. you only use those things when they misbehave. youll never understand the bond that us horseriders have with our horses. think before you speak or right.

@biskvitic It's not the bit, spurs and whips, it's the way they are used. A hackamore "bit", for example, can break the horse's nose bone when used wrong, but I have witnessed it being used successfully on very sensitive-mouthed horses. Also, the proper way to use a whip is to gently tap the horse with it. Of course there are many people that do beat their horses, but that's obviously not the fault of the equipment.

Anyone who says equestrian is not sport or it's easy, their ignorance is their problem. Anyone that know something about history or military history could see that modern equestrian came from the military cavalry. Cavalry being the elite of any military(you never heard the word "cannon fodder" being use on cavalry men) for last 2000years, no one with some sense of logic,would say "that's easy!"

The part where I said "We don't say that it is easy, we say that it is not a sport" was just a correction to what the the main arguments over Equestrians really are. And I also said that none of those arguments made in this video are valid, and not that Equestrian isn't a sport. Your Olympic -argument would be a good one, but that isn't mentioned in this video.

I never said it was easy, I just said that it's not a sport. None of the arguments in this video are valid. I mean: "Have you ever fallen from 10 feet up, going 35 mph." Are you fucking kidding me, what does that have to do with sport if you fucking fall down from a horse. The Linking Park singer broke his arm during a concert, but he continued singing till the end of the concert and then went to the hospital. Now is singing also a sport?

can not believe how many people have told me that "riding is not a sport." and they've even said "you just si there!" it is more than that. It is an animal that weighs lot more than us, they have their own will, horses are wise, they can throw us of as many times they want! but usually they have a heart of gold, and they trust in their riders to 110% that is what makes riding at a such great SPORT!
