@underwatercolours - Truk decided not to observe the "war grave" thing for the ships. Given how the Japanese troops treated the islanders during the war (and before) I hardly blame them.
@vv55sst 100% totally I am agreed with you...untill now there is so many existing matarial scaterred under the sea specially in the land it could found also in weno, phonpie... I been here and my friend used to leaved in ODOT island
As much as I would love to dive Truk, I know the thousands of ghosts there would haunt my dreams forever....And well they should. Some places should be off limits to tourists.
@Kapindur what about Gettysburg? thousands upon thousands of tourists visit the Battlefields at Gettysburg, where over 58,000 Americans died in just 3 days of battle, that more than the entire 7 years of Vietnam.
I will be leaving from NY to Truk to the Odyssey in March. Any suggestions for the trip would be appreciated.
As someone just starting to get into photography (just purchased a Canon 5d Mark II) I was wondering if you think this type of camera would be sufficient for this trip. I like to also take shots on shore also since I will heading over to Palau after a week on the Odyssey.
which lens you`ll use ? I recommend you 16-35mm f2.8. What housing do you have for 5D Mark II ? Its wierd. i plan to go to truk too in March and Palau after :)) hahahhahaa if u want email me: misaclaudiu@yahoo.com so we can talk :)
@meltdownman1 Better late, than never... I shoot with a Nikon D300 in a Sea & Sea housing and Ikelite 160 strobes. The lens I used most was 12-24 or 10-17 fisheye. For macro I used the 60mm. I also have a 105 but hardly ever use it. Didn't use it in Truk at all. Your camera will be excellent for this trip.
does anyone have any idea how many japanese were killed during the battle of truk feb 17-18? ive been looking everywhere and cant seem to find an estimate.
Really great pictures and the music created a really nice atmosphere. You made me want to go there right now, and one day i will. but till then at least there are great videos like this one
